Half an hour into an MTT ($100 UK Open Sat), my chip stack is average and I'm on the BB with  . The pot is limped twice and minimum raiseded by button; easy call for me. Flop comes  asp   . I check and it is raised 150 (into a 425 pot). It is called by one, folded on the button and I call the 150. Turn comes  ts . I check, original raiser checks and last to act (big stack) bets 500-600. Is this a raise, call or fold? I hadn't picked up much info on the table.

I reraise minimum, hoping for call with an ace and perhaps a bare spade. He calls. I chuck in remaining 400 on river (blank), he calls and turns over Q8 of spades for a higher flush.

Should I have been able to get away from the hand? Would you have folded on turn, or smooth called (likely to be faced with a large bet for remaining 1000 chips). Any opinions appreciated.

I don't think you HAVE to call from the BB, but it's understandable. this is the danger of calling from the blinds with this kind of hand. What are you hoping to hit, and will you havce a live draw if it comes? I'm in the habit of passing hands like that when I'm going to have to play out of position the rest of the hand.

on the turn his bet is 2/3 the pot and your raise was about 1200 into a 1500 pot with 400 back. you've pot commited yourself with a 9 high flush.  Tricky hand, and I see why you've played it how you did but I'd rather muck it pre flop

the mistake you made was calling on the big blind with 79s once the flush comes you HAVE to play it or there would be no point in calling preflop!! these hands get you into trouble, id be weary with this hand on the big blind without a raise!

Play the hand with more strength... You may force the queen flush draw out!

But as the other guys said, if you play these hands its the risk you take...

You just got unlucky that someone had a higher flush than you, but like the others have said thats the risk you take.  The guy who won the hand limped in early position with Q8 suited  >:?

am i the only person who agrees that 79s was an auto call?

I mean the 2 limpers are calling, so your getting 7-1. Its a must, surely!

no, I pass
I know the odds look tempting but it's all about counting live outs and unless you hit the PERFECT flops you can never be sure you have any

I'm with you there, against a minraise i'd call everytime.

I'm not sure the issue is whether to call or pass pre flop. Some will and some wont. Our player here obviously would. (Personally I would)

I think the issue is once you HAVE called how to play it. As Gamblor21 says if you play it with more strength you can force the flush draw out. Especially with the check raise on the flop showing real strength.

If a guy has limped with Q8, i think its unlikely he'll pass when he makes his flush to pretty much any bet.

I would normally call there, but having been knocked out of a tournement with a 67s in my SB  (3 limpers, made up my small, flopped a flush, beat by a bigger one) I can see you're setting your self up for a tough decision and probably will think twice about it next time.

If you want to play that hand you need to pass it when it looks like its gone wrong. You've got a guy who's called on the flop and then made a big bet when the flush card comes. He then calls your reraise. I think by the river you must be beaten.

You've set yourself up for a tough decision though, which as AdamM says you could avoid.

yes i play the hand like the baron... you give yourself so much more chance to win the hand and to outplay your opponent/s on furthers streets!

Flushy i may reraise in that spot lol, its an auto call for me but we don't want everyone calling with those hands... or else they won't work aswell for us!

Auto-call for me too, just unlucky IMO
