How many runners will the WSOP main event have this year, and why?

Numbers will be greatly reduced this year as many people qualifying via Stars/Full Tilt etc, and receiving cash payments, will opt to keep the money (if possible) or spread it across several smaller buy-in events if given the chance to do so.

I think 3,000- 4,000 this year.

Ironically, when I was in Vegas in March, the Caesars dealers seemed to think this would have no impact and that numbers would continue to grow.  They were talking about 10-12,000 entries this year.

Personally I think main event attendances will suffer this year, although side events probably won't be affected.

2-3.5

Although i think it's possible people including myself will underestimate the amount of people buying in directly.

is it possible to suggest how many of  the online qualifiers will take the $10k ( as third parties cannot buy them in) and use it elsewhere ? clearly not but what is your instinct on this?

The shortest price on betfair is 9000+, Flushy, you can get a great price on your prediction...go for it.

i would guesstimate over 2/3rds would keep the cash,  of which a small % will utilise earlier cheaper comps    thats certainly my plan now cash is in the bank !!
