Am I the only pearon in the Poker playing world who gets sucked in by the Casino games whilst waiting for Poker games to start etc?  I love Poker any play live as much as I can but I always seem to do my cash playing s**tty casino games before/during tourney breaks.  I know this is the dummest thing a poker player can do but surely I am not alone in doing this?  No offence is intended by the title of this thread, It is a genuine plea for advice.  How do sensible ppl approach this problem?
Again I find myself sat at home having lost playing roulette without ever intending to play the stupid game in the first place!  Do people listen to music, talk to friends in the bar, sit in the toilet wasting time, not enter the casino till the last minute or just excersize more will power that the average Joe?  Any advice regarding this problem would be great!  Posts from sensible ppl will be taken with a pinch of salt, I want to know what the idiots like myself do to avoid the Casino trap.

I would have the same sort of problems. Go with a mate, make sure you get a drink each, sit down somewhere away from the tables and chat about anything. Sounds simple enough. Try turning up with just enough time to join the poker and leave afterwards. Take a set amount of money. Anything

Work out the odds that you are receiving on the house games, works for me.

If im with my mate its easy, if im not with my mate i arrive quite late to register then get a drink and sit down and read the poker mags the casino put on. I would say i have more of a fascination watching the other people playing them than actually donking my own money off on them!

I think I might try watching the cash games if I turn up early, maybe this will help.  It's just that with another 2 Casinos and another 2 card rooms opening in Nottingham in the next few months that I fear for my financial future!  I was praying that DTD would open ASAP but now it looks like I will be busto before this happens  bad beat yawn

I usually play blackjack while waiting to be called to the table and quite a few other poker players will be at the table. What surprises me is just how bad a lot of these guys play..... lets face it if you can play decent poker you can play perfect blackjack and at least cut the house edge to a minimum.

Oh and I avoid roulette at all costs....... well unless I've been drinking  Roll Eyes

to be honest i am so addicted to poker that the odds are fused in my head.
therefore, when i stand beside some roullette wheel or blackjock table i think immediately of the odds of winning against the house odds of winning and it's QJ v AK every time, so I fold. It would be very very difficult for me to partake in these games, and for that I feel blessed. I think in a civilization like our own, casino games should be banned, it is just the legitimization of a way to fleece people. Anyone who compares texas holdem to this sort of sh*t gambling needs their head checked.

so what do I do instead? I talk to the poker players I'm about to play in the tournament with. Normally they're nice people but also about 49 x the intelligence of your average member of the population, people tend to forget that.

85 pc of poker players are losing players but at least you go in with some chance of winning. losing bad at poker you will lose worse than against the wheel, but at least with poker you were safe in the knowledge that if you put your grey matter in gear you would come up smelling of roses. no matter what you do against bj or a wheel, you will lose. there is no dignity in that.
in reality, i know what you're saying though james

i dont gamble on any fruit machine and certainly wont in a casino

when i was a kid i was addicted to teh fruit machine in the chipshop but after i worked out how much i lost in the machine i stopped playing them

i used to put on 10p yankees with the horses but nowadays i am never up in time to get to the bookies
i will make small bets on betfair but normally i trade off for a a profit of 1 or 2 quid

but my rule is no gambling in casinos or pubs other than poker
when my friends play the fruit machines in the pub i refuse to watch

when your in the casino the easy thing to do is go to the bar and start talking to someone
preferably a poker player not a gambler even if you dont know them you have something in common
even if you dont like them the thing is talk to someone and you wont have time to gamble
during a break goto the toilet wash face come back and talk to someone that you met during the game
bore them with the talk of a hand you played together or about who you think is the better player russel anderson or john terry

but talk soon you wont have time to play the roulette as you will get called back
afyer you bust sit in the bar and soon you will find other muppets like me that have busted out
and have a few hours to spare and talk about the weather it passes the time

engage mouth not wallet

I lost my £6000 roll playing blackjack/roullete/fruities back in about November/December... taught me a lesson and I wont touch the casino games ever again..really not worth it! Taken months to earn it back grinding at poker again from nothing. -EV and boring.

I either go to the casino to play poker, or bet at the tables. I don't mix the two and this seems to work for me.

1. Only bring enough cash for Poker and drink/food
2. Never bring your credit/debit cards into a casino
