Reports that Daniel Ayala has signed for Derby on loan from Liverpool are slightly premature. I've just been told that Ayala is at Derby and, having been injured, will be checked over by the club before all the paperwork is completed. The club do not expect him to play on Tuesday as he has not yet trained with them but could on Saturday.

"@SiClancy BBC reporting Liverpool have made £30 million bid for Andy Carroll. That's a LOT of money. Good player. But a lot of cash."

£30M!!

Loads of talk late last night saying that Newcastle hadn't received any bids for Carroll and weren't selling him, etc.  Both Spurs and Liverpool both reportedly interested.

From the Guardian:

"Here's Adam Leach: "Having watched the interview with Kenny Dalglish I can't help thinking that his reminder about Carragher coming back into the squad was a clear message to Torres, the sentiment being: 'If you want to leave son, you're free to do so, but just be aware that you're first game will put you up against a very angry Jamie Carragher.'"

plz dont pay 30 mil for carroll. If Torres goes id just stick with the team we have atm and get a top class striker in the summer when the prices will be a lot more realistic.

Please do this...panic buying is the worst thing Liverpool can do right now.

Worse than not buying a forward?  I think having Suarez as the only recognised forward other than N'gog would be pretty bad for the rest of the season.  If Torres goes today (which it's looking very likely to be the case), then we need someone else up front.  If somehow the sale of Torres doesn't go through today, then we can wait till the summer to choose a replacement.

Yes worse than not buying a forward.

30mill on an un-proven (only part of 1 season in the EPL?) injury prone player with issues off the pitch? That's just bad business.

You're not going to get relegated this season, you won't win anything this season. Treat it as  some much needed restructuring time, rather than piss 30mill up a tree as soo many clubs do these days, and go do some nice business in the summer. The worst thing Liverpool can do right now is spend 30mill on a player for whom you could very well never see that sort of money again. This would surely just lead the owner to think; WTF is all that about?

I'm not saying we need/want Carroll - but we definitely need more than Suarez up front.

I still think it's ridiculous that all this transfer activity happens with hours to spare - when the clubs, players and agents have been talking for weeks in most cases.

Suarez will be fine when you can get him to team up with Aguero next season.
