Downing was bought to primarily supply Carroll wasn't he? Hence if Carroll isn't firing or even playing that will reflect on Downing's usefulness to the team.

Can't argue with that really on the whole.  I think that's why Henderson was brought in as well.

Quote
Dalglish criticising the FA for appealing Rooney's 3 match ban is typical Dalglish and makes no real sense. He can be a genuine 24ct Scottish miser sometimes.

It was in response to the fine for Suarez, Spearing's sending off, and the fine for Liverpool for this: "An FA statement read: 'Liverpool Football Club have been charged by The FA with failing to ensure its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion, following the dismissal of Jay Spearing."

Are they serious?  We've never seen any other Premiership side surround the ref (unpunished) time and time again, and fine for Suarez is ridiculous considering the other instances of players doing similar things and not being punished - including Mr Rooney.

No wonder Dalglish was criticising the FA.

Dalglish didn't appeal Spearing's red card but had the same right to do so. He has the right to appeal any decision with regard to the conduct of his players as well. Criticism of exercising the right of appeal when you have the same right but don't exercise it is a tad rich imo. If it was Gerrard not Rooney in that scenario he says nothing.

Dalglish is proper old school and wants to create a siege mentality at the club just like Fergie often does so his "criticism" of unfair treatment needs to be taken with a pinch of salt imo.

Also pls can Suarez try staying on his feet on Sat, admittedly tricky in these windy conditions.

Really?   won 2 from 7 at home, couldn't beat Sunderland/Swansea/Norwich at home, and haven't won at home since September.

This, I can;t have them at 4-11 at all. OK, QPR might be quite a poor side ATM but surely they will start to gell at one stage and start nicking points here and there...wouldn't surprise me if that happened this weekend.

TBH Carroll and Downing are the only players I'm not happy with.

Hendo for me is playing well, and Coates has had 2/3 games? He looked mustard Vs Chelsea in the Carling Cup recently.

Harry Redknapp and David Moyes are the latest managers to criticise the Football Association following their appeal against Wayne Rooney's three-match Euro 2012 ban.

The FA successfully persuaded Uefa to reduce the ban to two games.

But Tottenham manager Redknapp said the stance "opens up a can of worms" and Everton boss Moyes said the FA was "a kangaroo court".

Liverpool's Kenny Dalglish has already said the FA failed to "set an example".

Rooney was given the ban, which ruled him out of the entire group stage of the 2012 European Championship, after kicking Montenegro's Miodrag Dzudovic in October's qualifier.

Redknapp said the organisation had double standards because, had a player committed an offence similar to Rooney's in domestic football, he believes a three-game ban would be upheld rigorously.

"For them to get it from three to two, it opens up a can of worms," he said.
"There will be clubs appealing against bans and they will want to know why they aren't getting it cut from three to two for similar situations.

"People will look at it and think, 'Hang on, the FA have gone and appealed against his [Rooney's] red, why can't we?'" he continued, adding that he was "delighted" with Uefa's decision from an England point of view.

Moyes said that while he supported the FA's action on Rooney, he contrasted it with their treatment of club appeals.

"You should see us when we try to appeal - it's absolute murder," the Scot said.

"I've got to say, the times that I have been in front them, it's like a kangaroo court - you've got no chance."

Responding to Dalglish's criticism on Wednesday, the FA issued an official statement saying: "To promote speed and consistency, stakeholders in England agreed a standard formula encompassing a fixed penalty sanction should be applied across the game by the FA.

"The FA's system allows clubs to make a claim of wrongful dismissal - to reduce a sanction to zero - or appeal the severity of a sanction, both of these processes are dealt with prior to the player's next fixture.

"Uefa chooses to operate a different process for European matches, based on a sliding scale, under which each sanction is determined individually by a disciplinary panel."

David Moyes said of the FA "They had the opportunity to appeal and they were right to do so".

I dont want him back, he's burned too many bridges since he left, also the lack of effort he was displaying in the last few months was unacceptable. As the chip prince says I doubt he will be sold anyway unless Chelsea are lining up a couple of striker themselves.

The FA have begun the disciplinary hearing into claims that Liverpool striker Luis Suarez racially abused Manchester United's Patrice Evra.

Suarez has been charged with abusing Evra, and referring to his "ethnic origin and/or colour and/or race" by the FA.

The hearing is expected to last for two days with the outcome expected by the end of the week. Both players are due to give evidence to the hearing.
