I read that article earlier, and makes good reading. Goes back to the idea of the DoF being brought in and along with others will build a 'ethos' and style of football at the club; leaving the manager to look after the team, tactics and coaching on a day-to-day level. Would have supported any manager who came in obviously, but my gut says he's a better choice than Martinez. It also hopefully means that Van Gaal is coming in as DoF, although there have been rumours circulating that there won't be a DoF. I'll be very surprised if there isn't.

I suppose if you go down he'll have the right credentials to get you out of the championship.
Actually quite like them trying this appointment rather than a 'big' name and hope it works out reasonably well

This shows FSG wanted someone from under the LVG mould, obv we cannot have Mourinho so we spoke to Rodgers, Martinez & AVB, three other students from the same school of thought. They obviously had a recruitment plan and stuck to it.

Excellent appointment imo. Anfield is a mecca of a ground and the opposition used to go there fearing a football lesson. With all the new stadiums and sponsored stadiums I think Liverpool can have a big advantage with Anfield if they can find the right brand of football. Record at home last year was simply unacceptable for this club and no brainer Dalglish had to go. Rodgers brings a football philosophy that will suit Liverpool and playing at Anfield down to the ground. And he's a hard working grass roots football man which fits my idea of a Liverpool manager for some reason.

Scary appointment - if he can get the Liverpool squad playing the sort of football that Swansea played last year.

I'll give him 18months-2 years tops.. Yes he has done well with Swansea but a lot of clubs have come up and done well in their 1st season and then been terrible the following year..if I was a Liverpool fan I would be concerned that we were chasing managers from Wigan and Swansea. Yeah Martinez did exceptionally well at the back end of the season (again) however they were woeful for about 25 games..
Seriously though what would be seen as a success?? Liverpool have finished 8th 6th 7th in the last 3 years...do Liverpool really think they can better that?? Although I don't expect Newcastle having such a good season again next season I can't see Liverpool finishing higher than 6th..

the football wont be as effective as liverpool fans will groan alot earlier than Swansea fans will. Rodgers is happy to pass the ball across the back for 10 minutes, seriously, Liverpool fans wont like that. He isn't a Kevin Keegan manager who will try to score one more goal than the opposition. I like his style dont get me wrong, I just think at teams like Liverpool and Newcastle where keeping the home fans on side is a huge thing this style of football doesn't work.

Liverpool fans saw their side win 6 games at Anfield last season so plenty to groan about under the king. Ball retention is exactly what they need to improve matters. If they ping it around the back for a bit the fans should learn to bring out the ole ole and have some fun. I agree keeping home fans on side is huge so makes you wonder what happened to St. James' Park.
