Think the 4-month ban means he'll miss nine league games, 3 CL games plus one league cup match for Liverpool.

works well for liverpool as the earliest he will leave now is January so liverpool have a chance to impress him in the champs league and EPL in an attempt to hang onto him.
Doesn't really work well for Liverpool though. He'll miss a dozen matches and Liverpool may well look to sell him but not sure that they can even do that during the ban? His value has probably dropped by a fair bit as well, meaning trying to replace him will be more difficult. Definitely deserved punishment, but not sure this is commensurate to other transgressions that have been punished far less.

Interesting stat: Suarez has now been banned for 34 games since 2010 without receiving a red card.

If it was a first offence I would agree completely, but the fact it's a third, and such a scummy thing to do, makes a massive difference.

How many instances are there where there is a third time someone has been banned for something serious?

I was just saying that other transgressions (by repeat offenders) haven't been punished proportionally (imo). I guess it means Liverpool save paying his wages for 4 months though.

FIFA pretty much saying 'if you bite someone it's a 8-10 match ban'. If you do it numerous times the ban size stays the same. What happen's when we does it a 4th time? Just another 10 match ban?

Will the club have to pay his wages when he can't deliver the services he's being paid for? Surely there's a clause in his contract (see what I did there?) that includes gross misconduct, etc., and I can't see Liverpool having to pay him during that period. It isn't a good situation for Liverpool though, and they'll be thinking about the long-term plan with him now I'd guess. Liverpool Football Club has released the following statement in response to the FIFA Disciplinary Committee's decision regarding Luis Suarez.
Ian Ayre, chief executive officer, said: "Liverpool Football Club will wait until we have seen and had time to review the FIFA Disciplinary Committee report before making any further comment." expect Alexis Sanchez will soften the blow somwhat
Don't think he's coming to Liverpool. Although I hear the Shakiri deal is progressing... (pinch of salt like all these rumours though).

It's not an 8-match ban.

It's not an 8-match ban. It's an effective 8-10 match ban for Liverpool. He wouldn't play in the League cup anyway so he misses 9 EPL games and 3 champs league games. 12 max. Highly unlikely he plays all 12 of those games as well with injuries/rotations etc. It's viewed as a 4 month football ban when it's effectively roughly a 10 week ban in reality plus the internationals as well. He wasn't playing any football til the mid/end of August anyway so the 4 month ban looks good for PR reasons but is effectively a 10 week global ban. So going back to my original point he hasnt really been punished much more for a 3rd offence than he was for the 1st offence therefore i assume the 4th offence will be a similar ban again. If someone of a similar nature in US sports happened to have a first ban of 20% of the season in games then the 3rd identical offense would been at least missing a whole season (similar to drug use in us sports) maybe even 3 strikes and you are gone forever. http://www.paddypower.com/football/football-specials/player-specials?ev_oc_grp_ids=560886

I think he's lucky it's not longer but do agree with boshi to a certain extent re punishments for other examples of violent conduct not being proportional
