P.S
Arsenal fact. Wenger has won bugger all since Benitez lifted the European cup in 05 & he's finished above Liverpool once since.
Just saying.
True but he's still doing an awesome job.

Arsenal show a 26m profit 04-09!
Interesting table that, makes Wenger look something of a genius.
As Tighty says, Arsenal haven't done any better (in fact worse) than Liverpool over the last 5 seasons or so. I get a little frustrated at times, I think we could do with a top class striker (wenger probably does too but who can you get on a semblance of a value transfer fee & wages). I got frustrated when Wenger more or less played Fabregas up front for a while which semed to seriously deplete our attacking threat from midfield.
I've never felt it would be a good idea to get rid of Wenger (like a section of Arsenal fans) cause a) it is really hard to think of someone very obviously better and b) For the most part, even though we have our fair share of bad results, we are nearly always worth watching. Only major disappointment in recent years was not hanging on to that lead against Barcelona.

your right Longy over the past 5.5 seasons Liverpool are 3rd in the net spend league behind Citeh and Chelsea
but if you look at the past 4 yrs you will see that Spurs and Villa have both spent more than us in that time and Sunderland are close behind, the Man Utd figures are warped with the Utd sale
As far as i remember during the Souness, Evans and Houllier era Liverpool didnt sell 1 player for profit, obv not inc players from the youth team
Rafa may have brought in a lot of players but he did sell on most of them for the same price or a profit

Take a look at the portsmouth figures in the table
They have made a 51m profit from transfers in the past 18 months yet are still broke
The Premier League surely has to do something as to where all the money is

Ok fair enough - gotta hold your hands up sometime.
The last 4 years then.
Even without the Ronaldo sale I wouldn't count Utd as behind us in spending as the years before Rafa came they still spent vast amounts on Rooney/Ferdinand/RVN etc. They were already world class when he arrived so you cant really compare the spending since then as they don't need to spend as much. All other clubs are fair game though.

Coincidence this first two seasons contained our two major trophies under Rafa?

People are being a little harsh on Benitez, imo.Yeah he should probably go as the team don't seem like there ever going to win but he is certainly not solely to blame for the mess liverpool are in,the owners are pretty much incompetent, they've had a bad run of injuries and another major point that hasn't been touched on previously i don't think, how many of the players that he's bought over the past 2 seasons do people think where rafa's 1st choice ? I'd be suprised if half of them where.I thought if Liverpool got David Villa in the summer they would have a strong chance of being major title challengers but instead they didn't even buy i striker so was pretty obvious if Torres got injured you where screwed, his one huge mistake for me was his treatment of Xabi Alonso since Alonso >>>>>>>>>>>>> Barry.

This.
I dont think any manager alive wouldn't want Silva>Benayoun, Villa>Kenwyne Jones, Vidic>Skrtel, Alves>Pennant, Simao>Kuyt, Tevez>no one and we tried for them all.
We also went for Walcott, Diaby, Ramsey & other young guns but couldn't match the fees.

he is def on his way when spurs trounce you next week
but im with george - def want him to stay - he won the Champs League with Houliers team and has since destroyed anything they had.
That team sheet a few pages back is a joke, and any true red will look at it and die a little inside.
1 player playing for the badge (stevie) - 10 playing for the cash! - Football teams dont work like that - you have to want to play for the badge to compete at the highest level
Compare the side Rafa inherited with the one now.
I know which one is superior.
...you also say one player playing for the badge, the rest playing for cash. Then in a subsequent post you mention both Carra and Gerrard as players who play for the badge. So either you're making stuff up, or your maths sucks. By the way, I'd add Pepe and Torres as players who are playing for more than the money, but what would I know as a deluded Liverpool fan?
fwiw - i dont believe that caragher was cited on the team mnetioned a few pages back - that was my point
and if you think your team are playing for the badge after that display yesterday - then i am afraid that yes buddy - you are deluded - they should all offer to play for nothing until they win 3 games on the bounce
Maybe you should try watching some games instead of giving damning criticisms based on you watching highlights and then regurgitating what the radio5 live commentator said.
99% of professional footballers care, they all want to win,the same as anybody who has ever played any decent amount of football at any level wants to win, being paid a huge salary doesn't change that fact.
And i'm sure 99% of the Liverpool players want to win,it just happens that all but 5/6 of them are not good enough to win as often as they are expected to.
i find it laughable that you think i dont have my own opinion. I dont have time in my life to watch football 24/7. However i do watch as much as i can - it doesnt mean that your judgement is any better than mine - esp as yours is clealry biased on this matter.
however i can make a fair assessment of what i see and what i listen too, ad i can assure you i rarely accept other peoples judgements unchallenged. However greeny who is quite possibly the most biased commentator allowed on the bbc - to slate his own team - is unheard of. All I am saying is that in itself reflects something.
anyway - obv you arent allowed to criticise liverpool in the slightest on this thread. So you enjoy living in cloud cookoo land - having your worst season in recent memory - im sure it will all turn around

Lol @ two things with this link
http://www.transferleague.co.uk/index.phpoption=com_content&view=frontpage&Itemid=1
:
1)
The table below represents the clubs net spend per season from the beginning of season 04/05 to date. Some users have questioned why we picked that timeframe to analysis. Season 05/05 is the year that Rafael Benitez became Liverpool Manager. Following his comments to the media about his lack of lack of funding in comparison to his competitors I constructed this table to see if what he was claiming was factual.
Wow that sounds like a good reason to compare all 20 EPL sides.
2) 3 Liverpool £247,730,000 £134,080,000 £113,650,000 £18,941,667 -
this is about £30 million wrong.
It's not even simple or small mistakes.
ie they have valued Djibril Cisse's £14m transfer as a Benitez signing when it wasn't. This shown correctly puts us 5th not 3rd and pretty close to 6th!

I think looking at the figures is nit picking. He's had backing. He's not delivered. The side you have is now a laughing stock. I said it last year and I'll say it again- last year was a one season wonder. Like when Ipswich finished in Europe or when Reading finished in the top half. Everything went your way. This year you've been shown up for what you are- a mediocre team.
You're right in a way tho Baron- you're history makes this barren spell all the more tougher.
