Not got a lot of sympathy for Liverpool if he stiffs them. They nicked him from QPR in the first place so what goes around comes around.

Why is it so wrong for him to say he wants what he's worth?
Nothing wrong with that, but who decides how much he is worth?
Because Rooney is on £250k does that mean he should get that?
Or Sturridges £150k? Kane's £45k.
I think the issue is a number of fans think £100k aint too bad for a 20yr has, yes has bags of talent, and oodles of potential, but hasn't got a bunch of experianxe just yet, so some feel it is just being greedy.
I also believe under Liverpool's new policy, players contracts are heavily loaded with incentives and targets which are rewarded finanicially, rather than a big pay rise no matter what you do week in week out.
Liverpool decide what he is worth alongside the market place in the same way as any commodity price is determined. The new TV deal is going to massively inflate salaries so he has every right in the current market conditions as a young England squad regular to be demanding in excess of £150k a week imo for the first major contract of his career. He will probably need £20-30k a week more to stay with Liverpool over a slightly smaller offer from a team gtd to give him Champions league football for the length of his contract.
Liverpool not being likely to be in the Champion's league next season will also increase Sterling's bargaining position as they will find it harder to recruit the talent they need to break into the Champions League next season. Sterling seems like he has a very shrewd agent to me. Fair play to him.

There is the problem, as we have clearly decided he is worth £100k. Sterling/Agent don't agree, so he isn't worth £100k, but more. A.N.Other club comes in for £200k, is he worth that much.
it isn't the money, but the "assurances" we'll be challenging for titles/ and in CL every year. Big summer on who we buy in and how the seasons starts, as if we fall quickly, he'll/agent will start making noises to move.

No Liverpool have decided to open their bidding for his services at £100k a week. Pretty sure that is different to what they value him at and the max they are actually willing to pay him. They will be hoping they get champs league football then they will have a lot more power over the money they have to pay to retain him. £100k a week salaries are going to be par for the course for average players under the new tv deal. His agent will know that and want to make sure Sterling is way in advance of that salary wise which he should be given his age/performances/international appearances etc.
If Sterling is money hungry he will be praying the scousers don't make the Champs league so he can demand more to stay.

If I'm right, he still has two years left on his existing contract and he's currently on something like £35K a week? If he doesn't agree a deal in the summer, and isn't sold to someone else, then he'll be stuck on £35K a week...

Being stuck on £35k a week in September 2015 is a big outsider of 3 in that 3 way matchup though in reality!

Yes. But I suppose then you're in the realms of him letting his contract run down and the financial benefits from that verses foregoing the extra 70k a week. That would be quite a gamble on not getting a career threatening injury or his form going through the floor.
Mind you - why haven't Liverpool sorted this already. Nathan Chalobah has been on 30k a week for Chelsea reserves for 2 years. Sterling has lit up the Premier League and starred for England!

I'm sure they'll either come to an agreement, or Sterling will leave for somewhere else in the summer. The way he's been talking the latter seems more likely - but who knows?
I was just saying that if an agreement isn't struck, and he isn't sold, then he's 'stuck' on £35K a week.

Rodgers press conference earlier he stated he won't be going anyway in the summer.

Depends on the kid. If he wants to play at the highest level he leaves, if he is money driven he will probably stay as the scousers will have to overpay him in the summer to keep him if, as expected, they finish outside of the top 4.

He also said that Skrtel's ban for stamping was very unjust.

So we are over paying for him, or paying the market rate/what we think. Which is it?

Because you always have to overpay relatively for talent when you think you should be in the champions league but you are not (you are close to 80% likely not to be in the Champs league next season). Just like Manure did this year and Man City did before they were a powerhouse. Less players will be willing to play for liverpool at sterlings level of talent so his agent will have more power to get a higher price for his client. Simple supply and demand.

This is the reality of scouting and recruiting young players - it's not 1985. By this definition every club everywhere that has professional players has nicked someone.
