having used up pokerstars fpp points a while back to get an I-Pod Nano and downloaded about 40 CD's onto my laptop and transferred onto my I-Pod.
Since then i had problems with my laptop and had to send it back to have the hard drive repaired which wiped all the saved music off. Is there any way i can now transfer the songs back from the I-Pod back onto the laptop or will i have to go thru the process of copying it from CD again?

Bongo recommended Songbird a bit back, that's a nice bit of software. Actually, I'm not sure if you can offload from your ipod with that or not! Get it anyway, it's nice  |

can you not just choose to manually manage music on itunes a pull them onto the new pc?

Ok, downloaded free software and indeed it seems to save ipod songs onto computer - now how do i get them back onto ITunes? I noticed there was an option that cost me £8.05 that seemed to say the songs would be put back onto ITunes - is this the only way to do it? |

I think you just copy the files into your itunes folder. Alternatively I think you can highlight all the files in their current location and tell computer to "play all". It then plays all the files at the same time, and once they're playing they're automatically picked up by itunes. I'm pretty certain this is the case anyway - I had to do this myself but it was a while back.

Well when i open up the folder i have a text file, 2 other folders and an itl file - one of the folders is titled "previous itunes files" and when you open it up it is empty. The second folder says "Itunes music" and when you open that i get lots of folders, each one is named after an artist on my Ipod. However when you open these individual folders there is nothing inside.
The only thing that looks promising is the itl file which has a little music symbol with the word data written on it but when i try to play that nothing happens apart from it opens ITunes. I have tried to copy and paste it and that doesnt work, I've tried opening it with another media program and it says that they dont support the file name.

When I did it I used ephpod (at ephpod.com). The music files downloaded, IIRC, into the MyMusic folder on my pc (rather than into any itunes folder). So they became generic music files rather than itunes files. Then when I played them itunes imported them automatically.
Afraid I can't be more helpful though.

free and it works provided you pay the £8? Now its a race - lets see which is quicker, me burning cd's again to laptop or my bank sending me a replacement debit card (provided the site takes debit instead of credit cards)! |

That was the route I took. Can't stand the way iTunes works (or doesn't work) on a PC. I do remember this nifty bit of software though: http://www.redchairsoftware.com/anapod/Something like £15, and it lets you use the windows explorer interface to move files to and from your ipod. |
