enough poker, let's get back to trains

utter madness
Wow, that is so neat, why were we doing it otherwise for so long? Can't er wait to see the same idea extended to aeroplanes.

That's an excellent idea. Might not work so well on the Underground though.

Or do you access the overhead carriages from inside the main unit?

Yeah, I think that's how it works. The top one 'docks' and then when it's secure you get into the main carriage - and the opposite for when you get off. Means you can't wake up as you pull into your station and leg it off the train in a just-in-time stylee.

Bit bad if there was a lot trying to get off at one stop. They'd have to go round again lol.

I suppose you could get passengers at one station with a common destination into one module, but it would reduce flexibility. Overall saves $$$ tho on inertial energy costs.
The indians piloted a similar system years ago:

It would have to be a big module. You have seen yourself how many people get off at main stations. Say there were 100 to get off but only room for 80 per module. It really will take some achieving. Be interesting to see if it ever gets produced.

To get away from trains...
Ma Paradise was going through old photos & scanning them - there were a few of my Granddad & the planes he piloted in the Caribbean.
Here's what he flew for work:

This is Granddad fueling his plane:

Unfortunately the problem with a flying boat is it it doesn't fly as well as a plane or sail as well as a boat. He was sent to recover this one after a crash:

They pulled it in close to the shore by boat, then got the islanders out to help:

This one he built himself & they used it to explore the Bahamas:

Lovely pictures, thanks Rod.
Bit of a lad, your Grandad, eh?
Tell us more about him, please.
I've travellled pretty extensively, America, Russia, Africa (West & East), Mainland Europe, Yorkshire, & met Irish folks everywhere, alll over the world, but not so Scots, or Welsh. Must be a logical reason, I suppose.

The Scots and Welsh are all in England.

To be honest Rick, my knowledge of history, especially Irish history, is embarrassingly low. But I've always wondered why the Irish seem to get everywhere, but not the Scots. Probably because the Scots are so insular, & not welcome, maybe......
Well done on the Cash at Teeside, too. Good Luck at Star City this weekend.
Oh, & I like the haircut. No, I do!

Because I was offline for 3 days, so I'm all behind with this Diary again, & I'm determined to get it back up tpo date, so I'll reply to all the comments & questions after I've done that. I made a start yesterday, but did not get very far.
Then I'm off for a nap, I'm "resting" today, I ache all over, & I have PTP tonight from 7pm until midnight which, while great fun, is quite tiring & stressful, because there are so many chatbox quetions to field, & if you miss even one, it seems rude.
But first......
