When you see
Jim
McShane
please have a go at him for me. His blog was the best one out there but stoped suddenly after a very short time. All I have now to read is Amatay's one about his self abusing porn fest ! It's not poker.
Agreed, & will do. It was a terrific read. He peruses this Diary daily, so he'll soon know! As we speak, he is on a jet-plane, so give him a day or so.
As to Amatay, I can't hear or see his name without being reminded of that pig-food he eats.

The Times, Wednesday 19th November, 2008.
"The City's leading institutional investors are demanding that the Boards of every Listed Company are put up for re-election each year".
Demanding? Lol at that. Who the hell do these talk the talk but never walked the walk City Institutions with their hordes of spotty, knee-jerking, follow the crowd, pre-pubescent Analysts think they are? And if the Listed Compnies say eff off - & they will - what will the Institutions do - offload their Shares at rock-bottom prices, thus losing even more cash, or send the prices tumbling still further? A hollow threat if ever I saw one.
The City Institutions remind me of the Print Unions in the 70's - their day has passed, & they are in for a rude awakening.
Tossers.
Leave the Businessmen to run their businesss. It's what they do.

Tosser, reporting for diary duty.
Knew you'd bite. It's the funny-bone treatment - while you chunter quietly about this, your stress dial goes down.
Anyway, I thought you were a wordsmith........
You know what I mean Rich - and it'll never happen. Wrong time, wrong place. Of all the daft times to make such a daft "demand".
John Kirkland, he of Bowmer & Kirkland, the single-most successful private Building & Civil Engineering Contractor in the UK, with hundreds of millions in cash neatly stashed away under the guise of "work-in-progress", but with the cash sitting on the Balance Sheet, said he'd rather die than allow those City Boys to tell him what to do. The City wants quick profits, the real world prefers a nice, steadily rising graph, month on month, year on year. 10% per year will do nicely, but tell that to the Institutions, & they'll get all uppity - "not good enough". Well eff off, I'd tell them, you run your business, & I'll run mine.
And as for demanding......sofly softly catchee monkee. In-yer-face demanding don't work, never did, & never will. When will these Institutions start employing folks with common-sense, or even, perish the thought, high-level Management experience, & an understanding of human psychology, rather than using Uni-degrees as the be all & end all in selection processes? Big IQ's do not necessarily make folks bright.....
The day the City Institutions decide to elect Non-Exec Directors from the real word - Directors of Companies who MAKE things, DO things, EARN money, will be the turning-point in their education. It's easy to criticise businessmen from their swanky City Offices - it's not so easy to go out & actually make money.
Talking is easy, walking is harder.
PS - I'll let you into a secret. I'm not overly keen on the City Institutions - & they, as much as anyone, must carry their share of blame for the current financial malaise. The maxim that Company Profits MUST increase, evey year, by more than they did last year, is unsustainable. And, of course, the Institutions makev their money how? By taking profits from the Share prices they themselves ramp up.
Tossers x 2.
You excepted, of course.

No - I saw that, but I was talking specifically about Ladies Only Events, which all have a shocking structure.
As to the Main Event at The Western this weekend, while it's not my cup of tea, many will say the Structure is OK - the omission of a 75-150 is not that big a deal really. What does make me piss is that Starting Level of 50-100. Do they really think we are all stupid?
Coming soon, to a Venue near you, a 50,000 Starting Stack jobbie. Blinds start at 1,000-2,000.

I don't disagree with a lot of what you say actually. It is a FACT that the vast majority of active institutional investors perform worse than the broader market yet claim skills in analysing and selecting companies.
They operate to short term performance targets so by necessity they inject a lot of short term thinking into the managements of the companies in which they invest. Often for example supporting and proposing corprate activity that mostly destroys value as synergies are never realised, apart from short term(there it is again) p and l benefits of cost cutting.
That said there is another side of the coin, which is for public companies there has to be a mechanism for removing poor management. Of which there is also plenty.

Behave Andrew, my good friends at Matchroom read this Diary......and I'm after a job, know what I mean?
Talking of which, Matchroom have kindly given me a few tickets to their Matchroom Premier League Launch Party, this Saturday night, in London. I have about 4 left - first 4 applications get them. But hurry, I need to reply to Matchroom by tonight. And I'm off for a kip now, my oil pressure has risen to unacceptable levels. All that City Institution nonsense has got my gander up.

I agree - nothing like a regular school report to make you think about whether you are performing as you should be.

And to be fair to Matchroom, their structures HAVE to be rapid, to mesh with the TV requirements. And everyone who enters them knows that. Paying £5k or whatever for a crapshoot structure is just Rich Blokes Roulette - and what's wrong with that, if it floats your boat?
Which is why Matchroom are so damn successful - they know their market incredibly well. Fit for purpose, & all that. I actually think Eddie Hearn is not far short of a genius.
