hurry up then, I've gotta go out

OK.

Last week, a famous building started to be demolished.

Famous? Welll yes, sort of.

As a Tourist attraction, it attracted more visitors per annum than the Tower Of London, Windsor Castle, & Madame Tussuads. Combined.

So in a way, yes, it was pretty famous. And is now being demolished.

Give up yet? Want the year it was opened?

Something at Heathrow?

Queens building

Bugger.

We have a winner.

Amazing that, back in the fifties, Air Travel was such a novelty, that the Roof Gardens on the Queens building at Heathrow (now, effectively, T1 I think) was a major Tourist attraction. My dad would take me there every week, happy days.

funny story about golf snobbery....

was at a wedding in a posh club in wokingham. the wedding was upstairs, and our 'welcome' to the club by some tosser was to be told that we would not be welcome downstairs, and that we were tolerated as guests, in the upstairs function suite only.

so the wedding was going on ok, and as I recall England were playing a crucial world cup qualifier, and it was live on the telly. there was a young kid who was desperate to see the game (he was about 11 years old).  His old man approached the guy in the bar downstairs, and asked if it would be ok if the young lad sat in the corner with a bottle of pop to watch the football. the barman didnt think there would be a problem, but went to check with the chinless wonder in the pringle sweater.

So two minutes later the kid and his old man were backup stairs. not only did he refuse to let the kid watch the game, but also reprimanded the father for opening the door of the members bar.

now, i have to tell you, there were a few 'tasty' glaswegian/west of scotland types at this wedding, who wouldnt have thought twice about burying this guy and his mates under the nearest bunker. eventually we got them calmed down thankfully, and i knew we would have our revenge.

fast forward a couple of hours, the kilted warriors are waiting on their taxis outside the clubhouse, which is now virtually deserted, when we, sorry they,  notice a few sets of very expensive pings/callaways etc just sitting outside. They decided it was time for some practice on their swings...

Eventually there were balls flying everywhere, all teed up on the eighteenth green, all taking huge divots out of the beautifully manicured grass. Eventually there were no balls left, and they thought it was a bad idea to leave all these expensive clubs out in the open all night, so they started loading them into the boot of any random taxis that came by.

childish, but very satisfying....
