I had a pretty substantial bet the other way, pretty sure if roles were reversed you lot would have been celebrating.
I only read the thread this morning and thought alot of it was banter between friends but i did think it was a bit strange that you informed people it was probably a good bet and then celebrated when it was losing.
The more I thought about it the less it made sense, so much so that I had £550 to win £500 the other way. Petty sure I am allowed to rail a bet in especially with blatch who has the opposite side of the bet.

Certainly not me but maybe im old fashioned or something.
I bet sports for fun not to make money there is not much fun if I can't celebrate when I win.

Sir Michael Foot passed away - 96!
What an amazing life he had.
As an orator, he was top-class, he had it all, humour, passion, & self-deprecating. I almost never agreed with what he said, but he was in the same las as Tony Benn & Enoch Powell - no matter how much you disagree with them, they are fabolous to listen to.
His Son, Paul, was - is? - slightly bonkers, & trading off his Dad's name, wrote some outlandish tosh in the Red-Tops for many years. But, unlike his father, he was an extremist, & so unable to see his opponents viewpoint. And if you can't do that, you'll never win an argument.
But Michael could, & he was most persuasive.
He got some stick in recent years for turning up at the Cenotaph on Rememberance Day in a duffle coat, which was a pretty outrageous thing to accuse him of really, especially by Journos of all people. Very few respected the War-dead as much as Michael, but the shite journos used the way an old man dressed to diss him.
96, wow, gg & much respect to him.
Paul Foot was, I think, the son of Hugh Foot and only Michael Foot's nephew. I don't know that much about him other than reading his columns in my Dad's Mirror when I was a kid but didn't he expose John Poulson and also was massively important in the freeing of the Birmingham six and Guilford four? The work on Poulson in particular was very important IMO. I probably agreed with Michael Foot more than you Tikay but I think irrespective of political persuasion there can be no doubt his heart was in the right place and he was a great politician. It is a sad indictment on politics that people like him never make great leaders in this day and age. RIP.

His most famous expose (Paul Foot) was the Carl Bridgewater murder. I guess if we still had the death penalty when it happened they would have got posthumouss pardons being "child killers" in the eyes of public opinion...

Thanks redarmi, I'm sure you are correct.
It's almost beyond belief that Michael Foot & Tony Blair were leaders of the same party. Polar opposites in so many ways. History will look back on Michael as a great man, if bad Leader. History won't even bother with the self-serving Blair, I fancy.
I found some lovely quotes by, & about, Michael, & I'll Post them up later. So many times I never appreciate the depth & quality of people until they die.

A while back, whilst in Manchester one day for a poker day at which we were both working, Barry Carter gave me a whole bunch of poker books. He had wanted to find a good home for them, & I told him that I I knew of a good charitable use to which I could put them. So he lugged this huge bag of books into the Cardroom in G-Manchester & gave them to me. Which I thought was a rather nice, & caring thing, for him to do. Nice one Barry.
A month or so later, on this thread, he was, imo, incredibly rude & disrespectful about an 80 year old lady - an institution no less - who had just been bereaved. Marv. I really was not exactly enamoured with that, & of course, once he did that, a sheep followed suit, as they do. Ugh. So I went a bit sulky on Barry, as I had him down for having more class. Knocking is so easy, especially soft targets.
Yesterday, he redeemed himself, & went back into my good books, after publishing something on UK Poker News that pseudo-mocked me beautifully, & it made me smile all day. Notwithstanding the worst picture of me ever ever ever - I think I must have died, & they stood me up - the caption he wrote was a beauty.

Micky Hazard, on Saturday at Luton-G. He mixed well, cashed, & was huge fun. I liked him immensely.

Again, for Chomps, ex World Champion pugilist Johnny Nelson - what a character, with terrific people skills - with Lisa-Marie. Spencer Oliver was there too - he's shorter than me! - & he was another star turn. By chance, he's on the live simulcast tonight, which I'm doing with Lisa-Marie. Sky Sports something, 10pm-midnight, or the whole 4 hour thing you know where.

Kitty in a less glamorous moment on the Friday night, when we shared Tables in the £75 Freezeout. She is quite new to poker, but many hope she will not give up her day job. I may have heard her wrong, but she said she used to go out with a pro poker player (it's over now), & when I asked "who", she said "David Pomroy".
