Even worse; what about the "Americano"?
"Can I have a black coffee, please?"
"Do you mean an Americano, Sir?"
"Erm, no..I mean a black coffee...WTF is an "Americano"?"
"It's a black coffee, Sir"
"Ah right, well give me that black coffee then please"
try asking for what you want rather than describing the item and you'll find life is a lot easier. do you have this same thing everywhere you go?
"bread roll please, with a beef patty inside plus pickles, onions, ketchup, a bit of mustard and a slice of cheese"
"do you mean a cheeseburger sir?"
"wtf is a cheeseburger?"
"well, it's a bread roll with a beef patty, pickles, onion, cheese, mustard and ketchup inside"
"ah right, well give me that bread roll with a beef patty, pickles, onion, cheese, mustard and ketchup inside then please"
you must spend a lot of time ordering stuff
Sigh, I am asking for what I want. It has always been a black coffee...untill some American marketing twat decided that it should be called an "Americano".

This is a magnificently "Grumpy Old Men"/"Grumpy Old Chilli" thread this afternoon
On a related subject. MSA food halls.
"I'd like a small diet coke please"
"This is the smallest cup we have sir"
(profers huge paper cup in my direction)
"It can't be small it's nearly 12 inches high"
"Sorry sir, here is the large one"
(points to paper cup nearly a foot high)
"that'll be £2.99 please"
I resent the implication & insinuation that I am either old, or grumpy. An outrageous slur.

Rich Orford, Trevor Harris, Gidzo, & LMl have just arrived, they came up on the train with Mother & Co. I assume James Hartigan did, too, but I never saw him.
Trevor Harris is a cool guy. I think his day job is as a football commentator, mainly, I think, for ESPN, & for TV Networks overseas. He does the commentary from the Arqiva Studios, in Feltham, where Channel 865 were based until last week. It's amazing how many Countries take Premiership Football from the UK.
It's Matchroom's business model, too - they "provide" more sport & game-based TV programming than anyone in the UK, & probably Europe, too. They must be worth a mint.*
*Assumes "Mint" is not a registered trade mark.

The pre-party bar-gathering is at 6pm in the bar downstairs, thence walk round to the Queens hotel, the do is 7pm for 7.30.
I gather I'm seated for dinner with one of the SB&G Directors (Director of Gaming", what a job title, eh?), so I gotta behave, make small talk, & pretend to enjoy myself.
There's a Tourney I'd quite like to play at 10pm, I reckon I might just about sneak back in time for that, then some thereaupautic Hi-Lo Cash before bed. I find a nice gentle Hi-Lo game very relaxing. I just play 10p-20p, & rarely make more than £40 in a 1 hour session, & I guess I drop a tenner 1 or 2 nights a week. Nothing to get any hackles rising, byut incedibly reklaxing & enjoyable. Fancy that, enjoying poker.
Occassionally, & if asked, I play 25p-50p, 50p-£1, or even £1-£2, but that's not so relaxing, as I'm a bankroll nit.
When peeps just wanna gamble at Hi-Lo, or even High only, it does not seem much of a game to me, it's more like Omaha Roulette, just Raising & hoping to hit. Not much skill there, but it enlarges one's penis, I imagine.

You had to stop of at M&S to buy a "suitable" jacket!
I would have thought that your plum creation was eminently suitable at this time of year.

Nah, this is for the get up & go zingy zesty boys. Go away.
PS - I have a full view of Leeds Railway Station from here. I've had a check, & I think they are using the East Coast Main Line "Bad Weather Contingency Timetable" you sent me. I've downoaded it onto my phone, so that'll give me something to do in between small talk at the party.

That's more of a blazer than a jacket. And it's red. And clashes with the handbag.

It would be perfect, Ralphy boy.
But I gather that when "Wardrobe" was transferred to the new Studio, an accident involving my Plum Jacket, a box of matches, & a gallon of petrolem spirit, ensued.
PS - I'll try to reply to your PM tomorrow or Friday. Soz for delay, I'm frigging drowning here.

not sure. doesn't it need to be a new word or an old word that's altered or combined with other words? I've got a feeling a new use of an existing word is something different

I can put if off no longer. I must shower, shave, put on my new sexy jacket-jobbie, & go meet the party party downstairs in the Bar. Where, I bet, alcohol is being imbibed. Marv.
Into each life, a little rain must fall.

I had a meeting in a Public House this morning.
I'm not very observant but I didn't spot any overt signs of Christmas.
I may go back there.
