...meanwhile, the (unofficial) news in from DTD tonight, where they had their Thursday £50-er, was that it sold out, & they had THIRTY EIGHT alternates!

Wonderful.

I know that this a bit of a sidetrack Tony but I also know that you like news items like this one that was on TV yesterday.

Scottish langoustines are used to make the scampi that firms such as Youngs market in a huge way. Did you know that the Scottish langoustines are shipped whole to Rotterdam and then air-freighted to Thailand 8000 miles away where they are hand peeled before being air-freighted the 8000 miles back to Rotterdam and then shipped to Grimsby from where they are distributed in the UK.

Well it amazed me.

Strange how silly things can turn a day right round.

I'm a bit tired, to put it mildly, & have a corking headache. I got up late, waded through acres of horrendous e-Mails, & then had a bad day at the blonde office, with all sorts of unpleasant tosh flying about behind the scenes.

Eventually, I sat down in the Laddies $30k, went deepish, but busted, but I was railing Tom at the same time, & decided to rail him till the end.

Well, he went all the way, I put up a "Bugle" thread, & it all went off in the Chat-Box big time.

Kev, Floppy, Karabiner, ifm, Bainn, dave77, celtic, Vegaslover, amcgrath, LeKnave, Flushy I think, & loads besides all arrived, & we had a hoot.

Someone convinced the Rail that Tom was a woman, then it got a bit, err, basic, especially from Kiv.

Someone suggests I should be Chat-Banned, the Poker Manager arrives & everyone is on my case now!

Ken then protests that as I have not been Banned, he's gonnas take his money out of Laddies & deposit it on BLONDEPOKER. He repeats BLONDEPOKER 87 times.....

Then Karabiner arrives, fresh from DTD, & mentions DTd, & that gets "asteriked".

So Kev then says "blondepoker does not get asteriked" & repeats that another 43 times.

I apologised to Tom afterwards, for we must have disturbed his concentration a bit, but in truth, I think it helps him.

It was like turning the blonde clock back 2 years, & it cheered me up no end to see all the blondes pulling together.

Thanks Ralph, I heard this on Radio Four quite recently. How daft is that? Apparently Rotterdam is the world scampi , but they just air-freight them to the Far East. And then back to Tescos, in Scotland!

By chance, I called you yesterday, (or was it Tuesday?) as I was a bit worried about you, not heard from you for a bit. Hope all is well with you.

Well I am definitely Chrimbo-phobic Tony which may have had something to do with my feeling a bit off colour last weekend which is why I didn't venture out even to DTD, but I'm fine now thanks.

That's good news Ralph, I guessed something was wrong, as I thought you'd be at DTD last weekend.

And I share your Chrimbo-phobia. Big time.

The DTD roadshow rolls on, & I must say, they are getting the numbers they deserve.

One thing in particular that has impressed me is that they don't stand for any nonsense down there. In a regular Casino, you need to get physical before you get Banned, & even then, if you punt on the magic wheel, you can get away with murder.

I was there last weekend, & - & I'm not 100% certain if this is true, but certainly the rumour swept round the building pretty sharpish - but it appeared a punter had been suspected of weeding money off a cash-game table. So they clocked him the next night, rinse, repeat, so they threw him out, & barred him!

Now, it may not be true, but I fancy it is. Rob takes the line that he imagines dtd is his house, & he expects a certain standard of behaviour from his house-guests. If it is true, fair play to him.

What is the matter with people? Nicking money off the cash table?

I'm skinter than a box of skint things but wouldnt dream of doing something like that. What goes through these people's minds?

He's lucky he got out of there with just a ban.

Makes me sick.

It was not the original intention to allow Super-Stud in the DTD Dealers Choice games, but Super-Stud, as daft as some may think it is, is very popular in Notts, & lots of folks enjoy it. So I had a quiet word with MotherHen (Simon Trumper), Chubbs, & Rob Yong. They agreed to give it a try, nice one.

Now, I'm pretty inexperienced at Cash Games, & where I normally play Dealers Choice or Omaha (G-Luton mainly, but also The Broadway, Brighton Rendezvous a few times), the table is on an Hourly Rate - i.e., a charge per hour, & no Rake.

So, with dtd going the rake route it had not crossed my mind that Super-Stud, Stud, & even Omaha Hi-Low do in fact impact severely upon the amount of Rake the Table makes. In fact, if you think it through (I never had), it must almost halve the hourly table "take". Some Super-Stud hands can take 5 or 6 minutes each, especially if there are side-pots & "quarterizing" going off.

So, we are all having fun there last weekend, there are three Dealers Choice Games on the go, & in all of them, Super Stud was being picked in at least a quarter of all hands.

And so along came MotherHen, & gave us all a gentle warning. "Please go easy on the prolonged "squeezes" (so prevelant on the final down-card in SuperStud), & try & keep the game moving please." Of course, they all ignored him, which is sad, because he does have a point. This squeezing lark is ridiculous. 7 players sit there, patiently, while Matey Boy does a theatrical squeeze, every single bloody time. What on earth enjoyment do they get from that, I often wonder, but loads of folk do it, so it must be some excitement thing I suppose.

I hope DTD persevere with Super-Stud, & so do many others. But maybe they need to modify the charging mechanism, to compensate for the reduced rake that Super-Stud causes. I, for one, would happily pay an enhanced rake, or an hourly charge, if it meant we could continue to play the slower-raking games "two-pot" games.

We Super-Stud-ers have to remember, that at DTD, demand far outstrips supply as to Cash-Game capacity, they have 10 games at a time on the go already, & if we are impacting severely on revenue, when they are running at full capacity, well, something has to give. Let's hope a sensible outrcome ensues, fair to both the house & the players. I'm confident it will.

It's a pointless crime, too. They are entitled to nail their chips to the table, or get up & leave. Why on earth would anyone wanna weed off? Unless, of course, they were just stupid, I suppose.
