Traditionally, the Board is dealt left to right. In Southend, it's dealt right to left.
I'm just curious, that's all, it does not trouble me as such.
It's left to right if you are the dealer, but it's right to left if you are in seat 5
But if you're in seat five the cards are usually laid down in order, with the turn placed next to the 3rd flop card rather than the first.

Fresh from busting after mangling JJ in the £500 at Southend - and it's a very long drive home from Southend to Derby when you've made a horrible play -I went to DTD on a recovery mission, for their excellently structured £200 Sunday night affair. Only about 60 Runners - surprising, and a bit of a worry, because this is "my" ideal Tournament size, but that's another story.
And a "nice" field - lots & lots of my old chums from Gala Notts - plus or including bookiebasher, Lob Long himself (yes, he used to be a Gala Notts regular), ActionJack, Ed "The Kid", Anthony Nicholls, Greek Jack, Barry Neville etc. And my special friends Red-Dog, Thewy & Maria, with the bonus being Red on my Starting Table - & the Double Whammy of him being on the BB to my Button. Greek Jack was behind Red, then Barry Neville, then the local wannabee scandie Pete Linton, followed by Dassos. An action table if ever I saw one, & even Barry Neville was quiet - for the first 3 hands, anyway. Then Mick McCool arrived, too. Fireworks expected. But Mick got moved, & was soon on the Rail. His game is mega-aggressive, & he goes for early chips - usually successfully - but the Notts Boys don't do Pass, or like to be pushed around, so the early stages are always a bit perilous.
I decided to set out my stall with Red from the very first hand, by outplaying him with no hand. Sadly, he knows my game inside out, & was waiting for me - Round One to Tom, & those 400 chips he won off me were to prove crucial.
2 hands later - the third hand of the Tourney, Pete L Raises, there's a RR behind, Red moves all-in with the Aces, Pete somehow let go, after the customary acting, (his game must have improved, I've never seen him Pass before) & Red found a customer with Kings - a no-brainer play. The King fell, & Tom was out, in the third hand. But wait a minute - after a chip count, he's found to have 425 left over, following his brush with me.
And that was the prelude to one of the finest comebacks I've ever seen at a Poker Table. He never had a hand - that anyone saw - but by adroit situational & positional play, he slowly & patiently played his way out of the hole, & was eventually up to about 12k after 4 levels. Our Table got split, & Tom busted a few hands later, I don't know how, but I think it was a three in a row special. A truly amazing effort, & I doff my cap to him.
I got myself in a hole, too, did nothing wrong, but just lacked cards & situations, & then card-deadedness took it's toll, but the structure is such that you can wait, & exercise patience, & I just hung in. But soon I was in big trouble, & shove-time arrived in the form of KQ suited - you know how it is when you've been Card-Dead for hours, that looks like Aces, so in went my mini-stack. I was troubled by the first Caller, but then another Caller decided to join the Party, & I thought that was that - especially when the cards went on their backs - I was up against TWO players, both with AK, & I was drawing to 3 outs. 2 of the 3 arrived, & I've trebled up in one hand. AK suited was the next hand - no customers - and the next, ditto, & soon I was in Happy Street, right up with the leaders, & way above average. I went a bit quiet therafter, deciding to try & Final in average shape, which I did.
The Final was an odd affair - we lost two Players immediately, & someone went All-In every hand for the first two orbits! The Blinds started to catch up with me - I had 23k, with Blinds at 1k 2k, & then big Micky Jones Raised it up on my BB, & he can - literally - have anything. I had AQ - not a RR hand, but I felt this was a perfect situation, and I can get him off most hands in this spot, so in they went. But he had the goods in the worst possible way, AK, & that was that, £456 for 7th. No complaints I had a simply wonderful evening, & enjoyed every moment. It's just so much fun at DTD.
But my lasting memory will be that Red-Dog comeback. Him's some player.

Naturally, Tom needed some luck to recover, but we witnessed two absolutely horrendous plays, one of which benefitted Tom, crucially, because it was the important double-up from 850 to 1,700.
He moved in first to speak with 8-7 suited for (Blinds now 100-200), & found a Re-Raise behind him - a huge stroke of luck, as it turned out. The Re-Raiser proudly flipped over 8-4 off. Why would anyone Re-Raise with 8-4 off into a dry pot taxed us all for the next hour, in between supressed mirth.
Later, the same guy made another jaw-drropper, after Raising it up - which he did almost every single hand, which is fine & dandy - faced a shove all-in from a Lord Rock, & he could not get his chips in the middle quick enough to call for his entire Tourney with ......A-7! Popper had KK, & the A-7 play was so awful we were all sure the A would fall, but it never, & that was that, the Value departed. I think he just pre-ejaculated when he saw the A.
Unbelievable, it had to be seen to be believed. The last time I shared a table with Matey Boy, who's name I'll spare you, as I don't wanna embarrass the boy, he was lecturing Lord Wernick on what he deemed a bad play & giving him a Grade One Rubdown. Lord Wernick juist smiled, but inwardly we could all read his thoughts.....
Where would we be without such players?

This was my 4th Tourney at
dt
d
, & apart from the Media Jobbie, where I minor cashed, my first Final Table there.
So it was interesting to hear Mother Hen's Pre-Final speech.
"
Well done & congrats all on making the Final
" he began - that's good player relations at work. But then he dropped the (to me) bombshell.
"
As you know,
dt
d
do NOT allow "deals" or chops - UNLESS the Chip Leader wants it. In that case, if there are (say) 4 players left, you all get 4th place money, & we Pro-Rata the Chips after that, & pay accordingly".
(Or words to that effect).
Well, you could have knocked me down with a feather. APAT "discourage" Deals, but
dt
d
have gone a stage further, & Banned them altogether. Of course, they cannot enforce it, & covert Chops & Deals will be done, but fair play to them for setting out their Stall so clearly. Communication is all, & is free, & it amazes me that other Venues do not set out the situations better. I suppose it's because they don't understand.
As one who has happily agreed to/accepted (I have never once asked for a deal) more deals/chops than most other players put together, whats my take on this? I'm fine, if them's the Rules, them's the Rules.
Except......well, let's imagine it's a £1,000 Tourney, with first place £20k, & 2nd place £10k. And I Final, along with one of Maria, Thewy or Red - or, come to think of it, any number of my good friends.
It's quite possible - probable even - that me & 1 of those friends might say, Pre-Final - "look, if we get Heads Up, let's chop the cash down the middle, but play it out. I am afraid nobody can prevent such an arrangement, & that's where the
dt
d
Rule gets awkward, though I applaud them for being so transparent. I would certainly fess up, Pre-Final, to Mother Hen as to the arrangement - I see no need to be secretive about it.
And if, 3 or 4 handed, the other players decided they wanted to chop? I'd do what I always do - sit there quietly, & accept the majority decision - subject only to
dt
d
being made aware. There's no way I'm going under the radar on a Deal, but if everyone wants it, well, it'll get interesting!
Top Marks, though, to
dt
d
, for setting out their stall so clearly.

On the £1/2 cash game, one young man made it £35 to go EVERY HAND and moved all in on EVERY FLOP.
He got lucky several times, (including busting AA twice) but he still dropped about 2k in half an hour before toddling off with a big smile on his face, as happy as Larry.

The Cash Games at DTD are settling into a pattern, & the big Dealers Choice game has developed into a monster already. Last night, the Big Game had numerous huge pots, several over £5k. I was a £7k pot split - 3rd nut House for the High, third nut low for the low......!
I sat in the Baby Dealers Choice Game, quite happily. That Biggie is way too big for me some nights. I did nicely in it last week, £3k+ to the good, but it depends who is sat there, I won't sit with players who are gonna blast me out of my playing range as to Pot Size.
Luckily - though I don't know how long this may last - there is at present a Policy at DTD of being able to move freely across Tables. I use this facility to choose a Table which suits my game, and I move around, & as long as the DTD Rules permit it, I'll keep doing it.

I play cash until they throw me out every time I visit dtd, I doubt if I would play as much cash if this rule changes. I don't change tables to angle shoot, (nor, as far as I can see, does anyone else) I go where I think I will have most fun or most advantage

Yes, I heard that. The standard of play in Notts Cash Games - not specifically DTD - is "interesting", & seems to reflect a lot of "loose cash" in peeps pockets.
Just as well, from where I sit, that DTD saw fit to Ban Straddles, can you imagine how daft it would get down there? And of course, their business would suffer hugely if they permitted Straddles, as the 10 or 12 Tables of nightly Cash-Action would soon dry up once the Straddle Nutters found their stride.

You say you move freely between tables, so if you move from a £1 £2 game to another £1 £2 game, do you take your stack with you?
ie you sit at one table and get up to £800, do you then sit with £800 at the next table?

Me? I most certainly do - I'd never abuse the Policy by, in effect, weeding off between table moves. In fact, I get a Cardroom Manager to move my stack, to avoid such accusations. But it's exploitable, & it will get exploited by a few. So be it, nobody will die.
In a way, it's worse at, say,. Luton, where hit & run is the order of the day for several players.

No, you sit with the max buy in for that table, I spoke to Simon about it, and he said they would apply a "Common sense" rule to it. i.e. if someone is obviously taking the piss, they will get a pull.

Hmmmm, common sense rule?
I dont see how this would work. If someone sits at a table with £200 - turns this into £800, then leaves for another table (at the same stakes) and sits with £200 again - what "common sense" approach can there be? It is just plain weeding from the table.
Tom, describe a situation that this can happen and NOT be "taking the piss" as you put it?
TK, I asked because as Tom has said, you would have to sit with the maximum, but I assume in the DC games there is no max buy in

maybe im reading it wrong but it looks like DtD actively supports the above, with the "Unless the chip leader approves".... so for example, lets say its down to 3, and a massive chip leader doesnt want to deal, then they wont support a deal between 2nd and 3rd to chop up the money, but if all 3 players approve, then they will not only support the deal, but figure out the numbers for you.
I prolly read it wrong somewhere though.

if people want to deal everyone has to agree
if people want a deal it has to be done to the formula
that way people dont feel harrased into making an unfair deal

Yes, that's the idea of it. The harassment in deal-making is horrendous at times, & leads to so much ill-feeling. Which is why I almost always "sit out" in these things.
