She eventually relented but it was awful watching the turmoil she went through each time he headed to Ireland/Bosnia/Iraq and Afghanistan.

It's so hard to imagine how this must feel. Easy to forget how tough this must be on parents with kids in the forces.

When my Dad was in he had medals for Aden, Falklands and a few others but either we were oblivious (cause he was in Air Movements, rather than frontline) or it never seemed as scary in terms of the real scale of conflicts the forces were engaged in then.

Really can't imagine watching my son head off to some of these places - the courage it must take is extraordinary.
Tks Geo, my 7 yo told me he is signing up when he's old enough  Cheesy not worrying too much yet though, he wanted to be an actor 2 weeks ago   Cheesy

Nothing to worry about then, unless Ross Kemp is a favourite actor of his.

A month ago, it was "Wenger OUT", now he's a legend again.

As one eyed as I am, Wenger has been amazing for Arsenal, fans that wanted him out should be ashamed imo.

Incredible how life has changed, these "let's pretend" games are absolutely massive. Have you seen "Football Manager", where grown ups live the dream & pretend to be Football Managers? Incredible stuff!

Football manager is amazing.  I once met a guy on a plane that worked on it and all of the ratings on the various players (and they cover every league and team imaginable in every country) are derived from proper scouting and reviewing of videos etc.  I was so impressed that when I was betting soccer very seriously for some guys in Asia I used to buy it every year so that I could use it to assess the likely backups and fall off in talent when starters were injured in European competitions.  They were incredibly accurate and saved me a ton of work and effort in deciphering players for teams like BATE Borisov and Rubin Kazan.

Amazing. To think you of all people use it as a reference. I heard a similar tale about it on Radio 4, a geezer was saying that he could use it as a reference point, he was particularly interested  in football leagues from......Central Africa!

"Lets pretend" meets real-life - who'd have thought?

How's the punting going?

Yesterday was just one of those odd days. It's not often that the 2 Manchester Teams  - & Manchester teams have a lot of followers, to put it mildly - have such soft opponents on the same day.
City were playing the only other unbeaten team in the league, who are in third place in the league.....they're very, very good but I think the majority of the league would have been 'softer opponents' than Newcastle. I won't mention while Swansea are newly promoted they had conceded one goal at home all season (an own goal at that) before they rolled over 1-0 yesterday against the mighty Mancs because I don't support them! No wonder u switched sides of the counter!

We could debate that on TV if you wish......when you coming on the Show?

I know you like a good book Tony, http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2041097/New-SAS-book-tells-story-regiments-WW2-heroics.html

If i had a spare grand i would buy one. Not sure it would too comfy in the lap weighing 25lb though !

That looks quite something!

What a story, too.

That set of instructions fascinated.

Anyone (Geo?) know what, in the instruction # 14, "POL" means?

And on what basis were Troops permitted, & able, to take their pet dogs with them?

POL = Petrol/Fuel

Can't mind what the abbreviation relates to, will go look

Edit: P = Petrol  O = Oil  L = Lubricants

DOH!!

Ah, in that case, presumably "Petrol, Oil, Lubricants"?

Really fascinated by the story, & the detail.

What's the score with the chap with his dog though?
