Love borough market!

It's incredible, & I would recommend anyone to visit. Very crowded, though, people seem to adore non-corporate chain store food.

Greg Hill (aka "Junior", aka "Poker Girlie") just stuck a little staking thread up, & it jolted my memory.

Greg featured strongly (& was unlucky not to win) in the first ever blonde Live Update from a UK cardroom.

There was no internet, & I did the whole thing via text to a chap named Simon, aka "jbsc7769", who later moved to Greece, & got a decent job with 'Stars, & he uploaded it all, & also to Tom. Think I sent 700 texts in 3 days.

The date was Feb 2005, exactly 7 years ago.

One or two of those finalists have survived the passage of time, & bustoness, even though all are old, & thus utterly shite @ poker.

Acknowledgement to THM for the results. If you are really sick, the Live Update of the final is here.....

That live update was incredible! Players were literally flummoxed by the fact that poker hands were being reported and stuff was being relayed to an internet site... A what? Blonde who? It'll never catch on! Look at it now, live streams, updates at every event, blogs, twitter feeds... Amazing really.

Quite fitting that one of our former founding fathers El Blondie won it really. I offered him an equity split deal heads up but that git snubbed me then proceeded to bad beat the shit out of me and win the lot. He got so lucky! Obv..

A few old names in that list, a few still playing, some more succesfully than others.

Good times

The raven/rook, I used "continuous mode" for that,

Brilliant idea.

I use continuous mode for nearly all my photographs.

In fact I have that mode switched on permanently, I don't see any disadvantage in having it on.

I would usually point the camera at my subject, frame the shot and press the shutter and keep it down for enough time to take 5+ shots.  Then recompose and do the same.  This way I usually get 2 different sets of pictures with slightly different focus.  Usually I'll find a couple of shots in that which are useable.

All this takes maybe an extra 2-5 seconds than a single photo would.

Meet & Seat, imagine how enjoyable your next flight could be if your seat neighbour could check you out beforehand.

It would be great for Tikay - he might get an entire row to himself to stretch out.

Yes, but a good few years ago if it is the one I am thinking.

Author was a Journo, wrote wonderfully, & caddied for a Pro Golfer for a season or somesuch?

Am currently reading a lovely little book on cricket by Simon someone, wiill post the authors name & book title tonight.

Very dry, laconic, humour, with some great background stuff on Botham, Boycott, Holding, Garner, Brearley, etc.

He referred to Chris Old by his nickname of "Chilly", & explains how he got that name. So simple, so good......

Yes, that's the one. I just spotted it on my bookcase and it is going to be this weeks read. A brill read on sporting mindset and what counts as achievement for some can look like weakness to others.

Chilly Old?
