Maths is a beautiful thing.
If it's done right it is
"... Beauty is the first test: There is no permanent place in the world for ugly mathematics.”-- G. H. Hardy
If you Google beautiful formula you find:
Euler's identity
From wikipedia:
After proving Euler's identity during a lecture, Benjamin Peirce, a noted American 19th century philosopher/mathematician and a professor at Harvard University, stated that "It is absolutely paradoxical; we cannot understand it, and we don't know what it means, but we have proved it, and therefore we know it must be the truth."
so why didn't he just say еⁱ ∏ = -1 and save a bit of ink?
Work that back for me, please!
Why would e
iπ
be the same as e
π
?
forums don't do mathematical notation very well
whatever
+1 =0 is the same as
whatever
= -1?
zero's are prettier

I would also imagine that it makes it easier to translate, as you have all the relevant information on one side of the equation.

It's connected with how you derive it and prove it, the rough and dirty applied mathematicians (who might as well be called engineers or physicists) might have a reason for liking it that way - but for pure maths it's mainly because it looks more elegant (the 'mainly' is imo other pure mathematicians might disagree - the traitors)

Because there is more beauty in using 5 fundamental constants than 4?

and in other equations having the =0 on the RHS usually makes them look better even if they can't quite achieve the same standard as this one

This is Penny. Hunting terrier
extraordinaire
. (Now retired).
Her pedigree is uncertain, but her CV is impeccable. Her exploits are legendary.
She belongs to my son-in-law. He's away on Holiday so I'm looking after her for a couple of weeks. it's a doddle of a job, she's an absolute sweetheart. (unless you happen to be a rat or a rabbit)
