I must just say I'm like a dog with two tails today.

I've been asked to do something for work I have never tried before, & it is quite an onerous responsibility.

I'm bricking it, but at the same time thrilled I never bottled it.

I am - officially - an OAP, & still learning stuff & doing new things.

I'll probably fall flat on my face, & the dissers will have a field day, but I'm chuffed to bits.

I checked the rio 2 or 3 weeks ago and am sure that it was only $200 for those first 2 nights, now it looks like it is more than double that.  Looks like I was a bit dumb to not book it then.  Will have to try and book something later today, maybe the Palms.  Cheers

Had a bit of a think about this and realised the Venetian and Palazzo are part of the Holiday Inn Priority Club rewards scheme.  I have earned a ton of points through work, so could get the first two expensive nights for free (+$20 resort fee and 50k a night reward points) in a Pelazzo Suite.  I am still running good obviously.

Posting this on the off chance anyone has picked up a lot of points over the years.

The mass of the earth is 5,900,000,000,000,000,000,000 tonnes so 40,000 tonnes is only increasing its mass by 0.000000000000000677%

Ooooooooh those are some mighty lovely looking numbers!!!!

Just been doing some post-RED-DOG-cries-of-bollocks research.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-16787636

Turns out that although 40,000 tonnes of space dust comes to earth every year, our planet losses 90,000 tonnes of hydrogen. The net result is the Earth is getting lighter by c.50,000 tonnes a year.

Talking of lovely looking numbers.

I was telling my 12 year old son Leo that Google the search engine is a misspelling of the number a googol.

A googol is 10100

To explain this 102 we all know is ten squared or 10 x 10 = 100 = 1 followed by two zeroes

and 103 we all know is ten cubed or 10 x 10 x 10 = 1000 = 1 followed by three zeroes

so 10100 = 1 followed by one hundred zeroes

or

10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000.

Now there is also a googolplex which is

10googol

or

1010100

I'd write it out in long hand but it turns our there isn't enough space in the universe to do so!

There is estimated to be approximately 1089 elementary particles in the observable universe so if we could use each particle to represent a zero we'd still run out.

Mind boggling eh?

You know a lot about Google tikay, did you know that?

I've probably got enough to manage a free night in the Holiday Inn at Notts Marina next time I am at DTD, but not for any Palazzo time Sad

I've got the Nugget for £150 those 3 nights anyway after a bit of juggling and that means no moving about midtrip too.

Someone told me ten years or so ago that when Douglas Adams wrote The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, the number 42 was chosen partly because the amount of matter was estimated at 1042. Now, ten years is a long time to estimate better, but that is a heck of a difference!

How did this happen?

Did The Met deliberately pair these two up, outside the Hossie where Her Beloved Queen-Ness was briefly resident?

Allegedly the tallest, & shortest (least tall?) serving Constables in The Met. 5'-6" & 7'-2".

It cannot have been a coincidence, surely?

The Met into Caption Comps, or positive PR spin? Nah, never gonna happen.

On November 3, 1993, he gave an answer on alt.fan.douglas-adams:

The answer to this is very simple. It was a joke. It had to be a number, an ordinary, smallish number, and I chose that one. Binary representations, base thirteen, Tibetan monks are all complete nonsense. I sat at my desk, stared into the garden and thought '42 will do'. I typed it out. End of story.
