Hold up lads, hold up.

I wake from a brief nap and my Diary has turned into an imitation of Red's thing, natter, small talk, bollox, all stuff and no substance.

Remember where you are, please. I want CUTTING EDGE, right?

You have an amazing ability to surprise Sir.

House of Pain indeed...

You'll be declaring a liking for Andrew WK next...

You mean Steev Mike, I assume. Smiley

Nah, not my bag at all.

Next up for fave reminiscences, Cypress Hill.

Sometimes when I'm drunk enough I tell a great story about sneaking back stage to drink with Cypress Hill as a 17yo at ZMF Festival in Germany. Wonderful chaps.

Had barely even heard of them before that day, but rather good fun.

Are you confusing yourself with Homer Simpson?

Homerpalooza is such a great episode.

Today I finished my latest diet - 2 stone in 3 months, & I'm back down to my target weight of 12 stone.

I could not be more chuffed, though I found it very easy. I've done it so many times, usually annually, & I know there are no short cuts, just an obsessive desire & sheer stubborn-ness.

If only I could keep the resolve, & continue to eat sensibly. But I just know I won't, no point pretending.

I feel much better, not had a Rennie for 3 months, & menial physical tasks are not so difficult now I am carting 28 lbs less around with me.

Tiredness, fatigue, as much mental as physical, have been a bit of a problem, & I'm still suffering with that. The reality is that I try to do too many things in every day, & there are just not enough hours.

My "affairs", paperwork, that sort of stuff, are in a right mess, I just don't seem able to attack the pile. Lost my discipline completely.

Part of the problem might be insufficient sleep. When I get enough sleep I feel totally different, but despite a resolve to get to bed earlier, I seem to still have late nights too often.

Guess the onset of old age is something I need to accept.

Really, I need to get my head around the smoking next. It's a disgusting habit, & I dislike myself so much for being so weak-willed. There, the process has begun......

Tikay, you might like this book:  http://www.amazon.co.uk/Survival-Fittest-Anatomy-Physical-Performance/dp/0224075071

Dr Mike Stroud, friend of Sir Ranulph Fiennes, is the author.  Talks about all sorts of things that the human body is capable of, and talks in some detail about age not being synonymous with 'feeling old'.  A good read.

I don't "feel old". But I am.

And there is no doubt that age-related things do affect me now. May as well face the facts.

More than a "Friend of Sir Ranulph Fiennes"

He went to the south pole with him. A great man in his own right.

Yeah, that was the simplified version.  The book's a great read.  Talks about the South Pole trek (their body-fat levels were down to pretty much 0%, and yet the human body could survive that because they were taking on the nutrients they needed), the 7 marathons in 7 days on 7 continents that they did soon after Fiennes' by-pass surgery.

Obviously, there are some things that come with old age.  But a lot of the negative things that happen to the body aren't completely unavoidable, and Dr Stroud talks about older people who have continued to be active into their 70s and 80s (and beyond), continue to have active bodies.  It's a bit of self-fulfilling prophecy that if you stop doing stuff your body will stop being able to do that stuff.

Abdication.  I think the Netherlands have it spot on.  Why wait for someone to cause trouble or die when it can be done with a smile and a party?

Reading a rather heavy book before bed early this morning about financial derivatives, CDO's & a precis of the LTCM story (LTCM, read it, look it up, incredible story), I came across a word I'd not seen before. Nowt unusual there.

It was contained within some kind of analogy as to the so-called Credit Crunch & it's causes, & I tried very hard to figure it out for myself.

CDO's are quite complex financial instruments, ditto Margin Calls, liquidity insurance & all that stuff, so those were my clues, & I went to bed at 3am pondering what the meaning could be.

Today's early morning treat was to look it up, & discover the meaning.

Bugger, what a let-down that was.

If I had a million guesses, I would not even have come close. Now I have to re-visit the chapter it was contained within to figure out the connection. It must be tenuous in the extreme.

But I WILL find a use for it, on blonde, within the next 5 minutes. Be a shame to waste it.

FML.

Wrong side of the street, me, I was brought up on these.

Anyway, off to the natter & bollox Diary with you, where an interesting question awaits you. From me, not Tom, obv.

Right. Now I have to follow ANOTHER thread, so you can have this as punishment:

There are at least ten different pronunciations of OUGH in the English language.
