The very last hand of the night goes to Dewi James, who finds ACES and talks Raymond O’Mahoney into calling his all-in preflop bet of 15k. “If I had AQ, I’d call!” says Dewi. Raymond calls holding pocket 66’s.

Attended the "Premier League Poker" Launch Party tonight, & I'd like to thank Eddie Hearn for the Invitation, to myself, & 4 blondes, too. Eddie was there, looking, as ever, a million dollars, he's one of those guys with an athletic frame upon whom clothes just hang beautifully. I'm not into formal "do's", especially when they involve alcohol, loud music, & small talk, but that's not to say I'm ungrateful for Eddie's Invite, &, as always when I meet him, he was uber-polite & an excellent host. He seems to pretty much run Matchroom these days, & I think they'll go from strength to strength under his guidance & leadership. He had most of his Team there, too, in Patel Sanjay(?), Anthony Leaver, Jesse May & Marty Wilson.
When I first met Eddie, only last year I think, I asked him if, rather than have Matchroom post Corporate Spam on blonde, (which nobody reads) he'd send it to me, so I could de-corporate-ise & humanise it first & he agreed, & it works well. Believe me, if you had to wade through the acres of tosh that the likes of Warren Lush send me, you'd appreciate why these oh-so-dull Corporate spews need a little attention to make them readable.
The do was held at a room in a poshish Hotel, "Montague on the Gardens" I think, on Montague Street, next to Russell Square.

So, who were there, mingling wth the great & good, & not so good, of the Poker Elite?
Top of the list have to be the blondes who won (or were given) their invites, & Tracey "dingdell" Dell & Claire "claw75" both looked wonderful, Tracey in a beautiful, black evening gowny sort of thing, & Claire with a nice top & what looked like her Daughter's hat. Both looked as happy as they could be, & I never saw either touch even a drop of alcohol....
. MonkeyBoy (matt674) was in good form too, & Indestructable was busy having his 'photo taken with all the Celebs. He genuinely gets a thrill from it, & it's lovely to see someone living the dream. JonMW was there too, & he gave/loaned me an architectural Magazine that featured the new St Pancras, but I left it there by mistake, with Jon, sorry Jon! Simon "suffolk punch" Young was there with his wife, & he seems to have settled down nicely in his role at Party Gaming, though misses travelling the Circuit, as he used to.
Faces included Phil Hellmuth, & Tracey & Claire both seemed surprised at his great height. Whenever I see Hellmuth, I can't help but think of a picture I saw of him a while back with his shirt off - he has most impressive man-breasts. He duly sat smiling & chatting through the entire evening tonight, duty-bound doubtless, & for that alone, he gets full marks, because doing that more than once a decade must break a man's will to live.
Jesse May had his characteristic & almost eccentric clothes on, complete with white trainers that resembled spats, & somehow, that's his trademark, the interesting clothes-sense & the sideways look at poker & life. He really is larger than life. He discussed Nick Slade's remarkabe result in the European Open, (which I was not aware of) & said he'd not watched Nick play before, & was a bit bamboozled (& much impressed) by his style, as, presumably, were Nick's opponents, particularly Annette, who, said Jesse, Nick trapped a treat.
Also chatted to Tony G - not wearing a Tony G.com shirt (eh?) - Catman, Shelley Rubenstein, Robert from THM, & Andy Black. It seems that Andy Black is a bit of a poker God to Claw, so we organised pic of them together, & Claire was quite taken aback by her poker hero. Andy is very deep, & very bright, & sometimes when you chat to him, you are not quite sure where he comes from, philosophically.
Marcel was there, too, proudly wearing his FIPA Logo, & gave Tracey, Claire, Matt & JonWM a 20 minute rundown of FIPA's aims. He has such a lovely, clipped, lispy, accent, & always looks very smart.

Meanwhile a plane load of City scribblers were taken on a trip to see a London quoted Israeli company GEO Interactive, a real darling stock
One scribbler missed the plane and got the next one..got into a taxi and headed for the registered office he found the address of in the annual report
He arrived, to find a brass plate on a derelict building
Asking around he popped into the cafe across the road to be told
I paraphrase
" LOL Madeupcompanyaments and you mugs value it at £1.5bn"
by the end of the night the shares had lost 90% of their value.
My very first investment was in GEO (later changed to Emblaze systems) made something like 12x my investment, happy days! Would be interested to hear more about it as i just did it on my fathers advice back then so if you could give a more detailed version of events Rich i would be most grateful.
If you already have then sorry i have not caught up with this thread yet!

Jeff "Jaffa Cake" Kimber was present, too, just back from the Cruise, as was Dave Ulliott & Companion. Dave has had a "Mark Three Boy Band" hair makeover, & it seems to be working. I teased him a tad about it, & he reminded me that I was in no position to mock. He's not wrong.
Liv Boeree was present, too, wearing her new sponsor's apparel - Absolute Poker. (!). I must confess, I thought they'd gone Busto after last years farce, partriculaly 6 months of total denial by the Suits, but clearly I was wrong, & they continue to trade.
I had an amazing convo with a certain blonde about Jeff Kimber, & I hope they do not mind me sharing it, it tickled me pink, & made my night.
"That's Jeff Kimber there, he's Jaffa-Cake" I helpfully pointed out.
"I thought Jaffa Cake's name was John?"
"No, it's Jeff, Jeff Kimber".
"So who is the blonde Taxi-Driver?"
"John McGrane"
"And what's his blonde name?"
"Cupcake"
"Ahh, that's why I got confused".
I know, it's not funny, but it amused me no end for some reason.

You read THIS Thread? Hmm.....
I PM'd Flushy today,
"How are you Body Beautiful?" (or words to that effect), "broke many legs while you were ski--ing?".
"Nope, none at all, though God knows how".
Hard to imagine him hurtling downhill at 50mph towards you, ski's groaning under the load, "getoutofthewayaments".

The buzz on everybody's lips at the Premier League Poker do was Mr Ulliott's latest companion, & there were some who could not understand what he saw in the (looked like) 19 year old, demure, long-legged, buxom, mini-skirted beauty. Others wondered what she saw in him, a mere millionaire, but they both looked very happy. And yes, of course I'm jealous. I was told she works in a Care Home for the Elderly.
I was approached by a young lady & we had the most bizarre convo, as I did not know her from Adam.
"How are you tikay, been a long time, you remember me, don't you".
"Yes, of course I do" I lied with the consummate ease which comes from practice.
"We met at the Barcelona Heads-Up" she helpfully added, & I've not been there for about 3 years I don't think.
"Ah yes, got you now" I continued to lie. "Still working for the same people?" I fished.
"Yes, I live in Spain, & work in Gibralter now".
"Ahh, nice, Same firm?"
"Yes, Party Poker". Phew, now we are getting somewhere, I thought, but then she threw me a right swerve ball.
"How's your Daughter?"
"My Daughter?"
"Yes, your Daughter - the slim, blonde one".
"err, I don't actually have a daughter. It may have been Rhow".
"Oh goodness, I'm sorry, I never realised".
"Realised what?"
"That you & - Rhow was it? - were, umm together".
"No no no, Rhow was Dave Colclough's wife, nothing to do with me".
"He has a new partner now, though", says she, who is losing me again now
"Does he really? - good for him"
"Yes, they are both here".
"I've not seen them, but I don't know his new Partner, never knew he had one".
"Yes, she's called Jade, Care Worker in an Old Person's Home" says she, pointing at Dave
Ulliott
& Jade canoodling in the corner......

Before the big name supermarkets got a proper hold, there were lots of small independents. These were ordinary shopkeepers who jumped on the supermarket or ("walkround" as people used to call them), bandwagon.
There was one in particular that I remember, "Dell's" supermarket in Darnall. (
Phil
Quayle
might remember it, but I think he's too young)
Anyway, Dell, the proprietor, a shopkeeper all his life, could never really get used to people helping themselves. He almost drove himself (and everyone else) mad by galloping up and down the aisles trying to serve everyone at once.
It must have been a bit before me Tom but I did have a chuckle when a new mini mart opened near us called J Singhsbury's with the same lettering and colours as Sainsbury's.

The camera can lie, you know Phil......
Speaking of which, Dena was there tonight, though I barely noticed her, in her orange & red stripey, off the shoulder, clinging dress, high heels, & matching accessories, from all of which I naturally averted my gaze.. She's not at the Walsall GUKPT next week, sadly - Matchroom Duty calls - but she told me she'll be at The Vic GUKPT. I'm told she looked stunning.
Another I forgot is my Sky Poker colleague, Matt Broughton. I can't recall what he wore though.
