It's just soooo sweet when an angle-shooter gets hoisted by his own petard.

I had the following conversation in the Vic.

"Excuse me, how long is the clock for tonight's tournament please?"

"30 minutes. If you don't like it, don't play."

tbf I can kinda agree with them there!  Know that a gent like you would never do this, but generally in my experience the people who like to focus on these things then follow it up with a lecture on why you should get more chips/longer clocks etc like they do 'down the road' - must get pretty irritating hearing that several times a day!

I was playing the 6 max tournie the other day and a guy asked Dena how many chips you get.  She replied then he walked away and had a chat with his mate that I could overhear - 'oh 10k for £220 quid isn't good value.  I could head down my local illegal card club and get lots more chips than that'.  Felt like saying well what do you expect from a 1 day side event.

IMO for the most part you should just trust that the venues and tours put on tournies that are suited to the circumstance.  People asking for the clock/levels/chips/breaks; happens on every single tournie thread on blonde too (which tighty always responds to with all the info!) - as if they feel the need to just double check that Mr Trumper hasn't changed the £500 deepstack to a 5k rebuy with 10 min levels since the last time it ran.

The people that run them know how to structure a tournie perfectly well.  I actually have a theory that one of the biggest problems in live poker is that a very vocal minority crave more chips in small stakes tournies, that has created every casino/card room to have boring schedules that impact massively on the cash games.

I can kinda agree with you there Scotty!  I know that a gent like you would never do this, but generally in my experience I make a simple three line post on blonde and some people who like to focus on these things then follow it up with a lecture....

Yes but if people were actually concerned about the playability of the tournie they would ask for a structure sheet, not the clock or chips.

I think the main reason I get annoyed by it is that during my first 2 years of going to Vegas I just took it as a given that more chips = better play as certain people from my local room kept hammering on about it and I just accepted it.  These guys have passed down their 'knowledge' to newer players and now everyone comes out with the same old crap.

Now I've taken the time to read up on it and understand it give me a WSOP $1k chips and structure in any tournie.

Good point, I tend to find things out before I decide to enter so didn't see how reasonable your comment was.

I wasn't concerned about the playability Scotty, I just wanted to know how long the clock was.

A lot of people in all card rooms hammer on about everything you can imagine. Some people even hammer on about people hammering on.

I'm glad you've taken the time to read up on playability. I hope you no longer get annoyed and are passing your new found knowledge on to everyone else.

PS- Please take this post, (and my previous one) in the spirit it was intended. It's just banter.  Tongue

I have to confess, I did rather enjoy it, & even had a celebratory pee.

Pretty sure the whole table were thinking Jack Jack, JACK.

Was that with The Camel?

I lolled at this more than I should have.

Keith and I had several 'lively' discussions regarding clocks & structures back in the day. Since then, I have to confess that I have come around to his way of thinking on some issues.

Turbo's FTW.

I have discovered Hyper plo8 6 seaters on Stars.  500 chips starting, think it starts at 10/20, and there is a little message at the top saying this tournament should last between 9 and 17 minutes.  Everyone tries to finish it in 5 tho.

1ks at the WSOP are the best.  Mr I want 50k chips never understands why he always has 4 big blinds when he gets to the final table.

Ooh, that's fair faced, or "FF". Might even be power float finish.

Quite different to "rubbed up with a pineapple". As in, say, Artex.

More poker chat Tony.  Full Tilt has a no limit Omaha 8 tournament every night for $26.  You can re enter up to 2 more times in the first 2 hours.  It has quite a good structure.  I frequently don't join until after 8 and you can still get some play.  It normally gets 70 or so total entries, but never had more than 3 or 4 tables at once.  It is 1k guaranteed but first is normally $450/$500, and it pays 7 or 8.

I think a few go a bit nuts because it is no limit, but you can pick them off and always re enter if they hit.  You don't have to change your plo8 game much, but when it gets down to 2 or 3 players, you have to get used to shoving.  Don't get too good at it.

It is normally finished before midnight.  I am sure you'll enjoy it.

They are also running a fixed limit o8 tourney along side this week for the same buy in but you can't re-enter.  Think there is normally a plo8 one on a Sunday.  Oh and there is a fixed limit o8 on Sunday with 109 buy in(this week only).

Concrete is wet this week.
