Ok thanks now I get it, the people at the funeral assumed the corporals were similar to Michael Stone.
Also agree its incredibly sensitive and won't keep posting about it but the thing that affected me most of all and would "haunt" me was thT they were beating for 5 and a half minutes, that's just incredibly long.

Absolutely horrific.
As I wrote earlier, a day or two ago, in my lifetime I vividly recall just 4 or 5 deaths above all others, & this was one such incident.

I so want to debate this stuff a little, but I'm scared that what I say will be misconstrued, so I'm going to restrict myself to posting a quote from Joseph Stalin and see what happens.

Your point is fair, & wholly true.
I've read perhaps more than I should have about Hitler, Pol Pot, Idi Amin, Saddam, Bush. Worse than the NI incident by factors of hundreds of thousands, & yet they don't register in my mind anything like as dramatically for some reason.
My current yardstick seems to be 9/11, & I compare other death totals to the 3,000 that died in New York on that awful day.
I saw the NI thing & 9/11, in both cases, almost Live, on TV. I never saw any of the other mass tragedies. The 2 deaths in that NI incident registered just as strongly in my mind as the 3,000 on 9/11.
That seems to be the thought process.
But if the death of those two Soldiers makes us focus better on man's inhumanity to man, then at least some good came from it.
The human mind seems to work in illogical ways sometimes.

I was a bit young at the time, so don't remember the soldiers that well. But I saw some of the footage yesterday and that car reversing seemed very familiar.
The Bradford City fire is very vivid even though I wasn't there.
The Lady Di one was very weird. We were on the less developed of the Perentihan Islands and there weren't any TVs* or any obvious ways to keep in touch with the World. We had been sat on the beach the night before. We had been talking about how anything could have happened in the World and we'd be unaware. We were musing what the headlines would have been if Lady Di had died. Di died etc. About 24 hours later we heard a rumour she had died. A couple of TVs appeared from behind the scenes and we got to see the coverage.
I was listening to Neil Channing the other night and he was saying how he had laid a horse massively that then died at Cheltenham (think it was Nick Dundee). I had a Dow short in place at the time of 9/11. I made £1500 in no time at all, but had friends of friends who should have been in one of the Towers. They got out, but we didn't know it at the time. We were on holiday at the time and it was a beautiful sunny day. Everybody else was in or by the pool, and I just flicked the TV on to see what price the Dow was, and the incident unfolded before my eyes.

I suppose my real point is that the deaths you describe involve people who were healthy and happy one day, and dead the next.
I can't help contrasting that with the millions who carried their own children into the gas chambers, or watched them be mutilated starved and tortured, sometimes over a period of several years, before suffering the same fate themselves.

Have you ever seen anything like the disappearance of the Malaysian plane?
Quite incredible, in a bad way, that it is still missing
Have you been following PPRUNE and the like?
Whats the "best guess" thesis?

This aircraft disappearance may be the most dramatic story of Civil Aviation in modern times.
It took off normally, & climbed to cruise altitude & mode, around 35,000 feet. Then things took a strange turn, just as it reached cruising mode.
It was being tracked by ATC, as well as several tracking sites, such as Flight Aware & Flight Radar.
All of them reported the same thing, identically.
One moment, at a location they all agreed upon, it was visible on radar @ 35,000 feet.
A minute later - literally - it's recorded altitude was zero feet. i.e, ground, or sea.
A civil aircraft cannot make a 35,000 feet controlled descent in a minute.
If anything goes wrong, normally a Mayday is issued. A catastrophic mid-air-break up, pilot death or incapacation?
There was no Mayday signal.
All civil aircraft have a transponder fitted.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transponder
There has not been any signal whatsoever from the transponder.
All civil aircraft also have Emergency Beacons which transmit "homing signals". Not a squawk has been heard.
Nothing, nothing at all.
It is widely agreed by ALL relevant authorirties as to the precise spot where the aircraft disappeared from radar screens & tracking.
Add or subtract, say, 10 miles, & it is still a relatively limited area.
Over 70 S & R ships, 'planes & helicopters have failed to locate a single piece of wreckage, which, when a plane impacts the sea at high velocity, is usually visible as widespread flotsom & oil slicks.
The sea depth in the area varies between 50 & 80 metres, say, 150' to 250'. This is shallow by relative Ocean standards.
How is all this possible?
The Boeing 777 is incredibly safe. Nearly 1,200 are in service. There have been no previous catastrophic hull losses, though two of them were involved in Airport incidents. (BA @ Heathrow, the "frozen fuel" affair, & the pilot error @ San Fran).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_777
Two of the Passengers on board are known to have been travelling on stolen passports, which MAY suggest terrorism.
How is it possible there is still no sign of this plane, which disappeared in a precisely known location?
Modern Civil Aircraft don't simply drop out of the sky, with no warning, & then disappear.

I read a theory that they may have pulled up and gained altitude. This would have left them out of range for radar. The wreckage would have then been spread over a vaster area that the search teams aren't looking in.
The stolen passports is a red herring IMO. Could just be 2 people looking for a better life and were terribly unlucky.

Yes, but eventually, it would have descended through the radar window.
And no "beacon" signals during or since.
9 different nations are helping with the search, using all manner of S & R equipment.
I hope the stolen Passports are not relevant, too.
It is very odd, to say the least, for a large civil jetliner to disappear, in an instant, & without trace.

Ooh, while he is in the thread, congratulations to "gamblor25", (gamblor21 on blonde) aka At It Bradders, for his success in the Sunday Roller last night.
Chip leader very early, & was soon so dominant he could not fail to win.
