The two British Soldiers in Northern Ireland who were dragged from their car & beaten to death. [/i]

Funnily enough this has only come across my radar this week as I was reading something that mentioned it and I watched the Youtube clip and it has been haunting me all week.  I can't imagine the panic they felt when they realised they had made a wrong turn into the nationalist funeral especially given it came a few weeks I think after Michael Stone attacked Milltown so paranoia must have at an all time high.  A perfect storm of the worst kind.

Slighty more moody, this, but I did not want to use the flash, as it seemed a little rude & invasive in the scheme of things.

Back of photo, sort of between Grumps & Miss C, are Miss Boeree - a near neighbour of mine as it turns out - & Mr Rob Yong.

I ended up downstairs, not with Miss C or Miss B, but with Rob Yong, as he convened an Emergency Meeting with me as to the whole UKPC affair. Quite a do, that, one way & another.

Was everyone wearing patches*? Or just the good lady in the background?

It haunts me to this very day, I still shudder at the whole thing.

I was seeing a girl in Crich at the time, she lived near Crich Stand, & we were (road) racing our cars near Whatstandwell on the Saturday afternoon when we heard the news.  We got home, & the footage was on BBC News, the whole thing. Utterly dreadful.

I'm not going into the politics of the matter, but yes, as you say, I just imagined what went through their minds, as they were, after a horrible struggle, pulled from the car. They must have known death was imminent, though they would have hoped for a bullet to the head rather than being beaten to a pulp.

I'm sure much worse has happened since, & frequently, but that was a defining moment in my life, when I really learned how cruel we can be to each other, especially in the name of religion, politics & Nationalism.

Nope, not really.

It sort of strikes me as odd that those paid to rep Online Poker Sites seem reluctant to wear patches or branded apparel, especially as such functions.

I had removed mine whilst on the train to Central London, it seemed out of place, & people seem to stare, only to hurriedly affix it during the photo session. Well after it, actually. Oops.

Strolled down the Dealey Plaza today Tikay. As I remember you are a big fan of the JFK story. I thought the atmosphere was quite strange & surreal. The area is instantly recognisable and the book depository is a museum where you can stand exactly where LHO took aim and see his line of sight to the road below. There's 2 Xs on the road where the shots hit home. Really quite eerie. Have you ever been/would like to go??

Funny though how I've never heard the term grassy knoll used outside of this one incident and yet it's an instantly recognisable saying.

Mrs Red & I are planning a trip to Texas. (There's a thread somewhere) What a coincidence.

Any advice you can give us would be appreciated.

Why did you go?

What did you see?

How did you get there?

I don't think it's bad. It's a colloquialism, rather than being technically correct, I grant you.

Ignore him Tal. He has his dinner at tea time and he never takes the dog a walk.

Here with my company TopGolf learning about our expansion plans. TopGolf is a real success story and we have a number of sites in this neck of the woods. We are gonna break ground on a new build every month for the next 2 years. The best bit of news is we've finalised a deal with the MGM to open one attached to their casino on the strip and that will get under way in a few weeks. Poker players/golf fans are gonna be in dreamland I promise. We also met Greg Norman who wants to partner us into Asia, cool dude and shrewd businessman imo. Definitely worth checking out one of our sites if you come.

I would say the Dallas Arboretum & Botanical Gardens would be your destination of choice here and it's ranked 1/145 of attractions on TripAdvisor.

Sport is big here with the cowboys, basketball and rounders. We are going to watch Dallas vs Minnesota ice-hockey tonight which should be good.

Flew in which took 10hrs and then queued for 3hrs at immigration. When you smoke that is a biatch, especially the queue, felt like making a break for it several times. When I went to Morocco couple of weeks ago people were sparking up as soon as their feet hit the tarmac.

That is THE nut worst thing.

10 hours flight (with, typically, 3 hours travel or waiting before the flight), and then a 3 hour queue in an Immigration Hall. Ugh.

I can't ever recall an Immigration Hall that was aesthetically interesting either. They rarely have natural light, windows, furnishings, just a drab, bland, room, full of tetchy & impatient travellers.

To be fair, we should not complain, most of us are travelling for leisure reasons, & a couple of hours is not so bad.

These folks queued for days.

No, their actions were not consistent with confused or lost locals.

I'd rather not Upload the You Tibe Video, but you can find it here.....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIP-aVfw13w

The Wiki page collates & summarises the facts clinically.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corporals_killings

It was shown on TV within less than an hour of the incident. I doubt a TV News Bulletin was ever more impactful.
