What a great GUKPT that is at The Vic! I made a decision that I would not ordinarily play many more of these, notwithstanding that they are a great, great, Event, but for me, with my game, there's not much Value, & lobbing in a grand every month does not make much sense to me, especially when I can have a ball in sub £500 Comps, & make money in them consistently, aside from loving the atmo in smaller Comps. But that's not to say I don't get outrageouly jealous when I read the Updates, so many good pals there, all living the dream. I'm envious, big time, but it just makes no sense for me to play many of them.
I spke to Chili tonight, she'll not sleep, she was super-hyper, & why not, with that lovely stack, & now she has some material to work with, who knows where she might finish? I've got a bit of her, but I just hope she cashes decent, for her own sake, she's a super kid, with a refreshing honesty & morality with money.
I won't be able to tune into the Updates on Saturday or Sunday, as I'm working all day both days, but with her & Thewy in good shape, maybe a shed-load of Cash is heading back up the M1, to Nottingham & Grantham. And then there's Jen, who, like Thewy & Maria, foight back from being a Low-Stack & is now in good shape. Good Luck them.
And Good luck to the Updaters too, (& let's not forget that Jen & Maria have done a bit of that) it's been an absolutely corking Update so far.

Love this diary Tikay, please keep it going.
We exchanged a quick few sentances at DTD on wednesday, though I got the impression you were being polite due to not having a clue who i was. My fault im a very shy person when it comes to meet and greets. To be honest i hate the whole process.

Your read is spot-on! In fact, I half-thought that was you, as I passed your cash Table, & you beckoned me briefly. (I asked if you were getting the cake?). I'm the same as you, terrible with that - someone sys "Hi" & I really struggle to say "err, & who are you, please?". In business, I'm the opposite. I had to meet a whole bunch of Boot-Campers last night, & was OK with them, as they came up & gave it the "Hi TJ" thing (yes, it's spreading everywhere....) I had no discomfort in saying "Hi, where you from mate, & your name?".
I'm pleased to hear you enjoy the Diary, & it's the oh-too-occasional Feedback that I really enjoy.
Might see you Sunday night, in DTD. We finish here at 5pm Sunday, so I had this idea to dash up the M5, M42, M1........

Kill a Rabbit today, please.
There was a programme on Radio Four a day or two back about Myxomatosis, & it's affect on Rabbits.
A rabbit dying from Myxie suffers horribly, & it takes a fortnight to kill them, & is fatal in between 60% to 90% of cases (reducing as immunity builds up). The head swells, the eyes get severe conjunctivitis, & they go blind, sores erupt all over them, their lungs fill with liquid, & they die a miserable death. You see them on golf courses a lot, feeding, on the fairway, in the middle of the day - they don't know it's daytime, due to blindness, & they can't really move much.
Myxomatosis - Myxie - occurs naturally in South America, & the rabbits there are immune to it. But it was - deliberately - introduced in Australia in 1950, & by 1952, only 100 million of the pevious 600 million Aussie Rabbits were still alive. By the late 90's, the Rabbits had developed natural immunity, so a new strain of the virus was introduced, which wiped out 97% of the population within 18 months. This was a "better" virus, as it took longer to kill the Rabbits, so, logically, it had time to affect even more Rabbits who died even slower......
It found it's way to France,
via
a landowner wanted to rid his private gardens of Rabbits with Myxie, so he injected two of them with the Myxie Virus, that was in 1952. By 1954, 90% of all Rabbits in France were dead.
It arose in GB in 1953, & the R4 Prog suggested some bloke had gone to France, collected some infected Rabbits, & brought them home to England, with the idea of reducing our Rabbit population. It may have got here from France naturally though. The disease is spread by fleas in Europe, which can easily be blown across the Channel on prevailing winds.
It was gut-wrenching to hear previous Government Ministers, such as Lord Carrington, thumping their chests & proudly boasting boast how efficient Myxie was, & how good it was for the Farmers to be rid of this pest of Nature. That's the nature which grows, miracolously, & for free, everything Farmers sell.
Man from time to time interferes with Nature's natural processes, & it always causes some calamatious chain-reaction. The programme was dreadfully upsetting, & we can but hope that Man eventually learns the lesson - don't mess with Nature.
Anyway, if you should come across a Myxie-ifected Rabbit, please kill it - a quick blow to the head is all it takes. Imagine it's Lord Carrington's head you are thwacking - it helps.

Life down there was so old-fashioned. My Sister was there with me, & water came from a well - proper well - which we used to use to get water for the house. I remember winding the handle, & up came the wooden bucket, full of fresh, cold, water.
Back then, lots of houses had a well, and some had a cast iron pump in the garden. As a boy, I used to go to work with my dad, and sometimes he would buy one for scrap.
After we had dismantled the pump part, we were left with a little piece of lead piping sticking out of the ground. Instead of cutting it off, we used to tie it to the towbar of the truck and then drive away slowly, hoping it would break of as far below the surface as possible, giving us a longer piece of lead pipe to weigh in.
One particular day, we had managed to pull up several yards of pipe before we noticed that the pump next door was slowly disappearing into the ground while it's owner, bucket in hand, looked on in stony silence.

Auntie Winnie, strangely, also had diabates, & died tragically from a very unusual complication - she was run over by a bus, whilst cycling in the Village one day. We'd warned her so many times not to cycle, with her condition, but her being deaf probably accounted for her ignoring us all. She was a hardy soul, but the thing with the bus was an accident waiting to happen, &
I don't suppose it helped much that she'd been blind for years.
We were all shocked at the time, but when you look at it, all these years later, I suppose it was inevitable.
I've managed to get most of the bacon & tomato cob off my monitor.

Had a pleasant evening with Matt, Nick, Kara (who was all over for me), & a bunch of the Boot-Campers. We have sold out - phew! - at the capacity 60, & a whole bunch of the Booters were there tonight, including a good few blondes. I really think it's gonna go well. I had Dinner with Emma Crowe - she a

Days Inn, Luton, Monday.
Lots to write up, but an absolute pig of a day behind the scenes today, & I'm unusually hacked off. Another shoelace broke today......
A clear blue sky, & then suddenly, a storm blew in from the least expected direction. Forecast is fine.
Tomorrow, I write, tonight, now, I sleep.

The
Sky
Poker
Boot-Camp (more of which later) , over the weekend, went stunningly well, but it cream-crackered me completely. We started at 10am on Saturday, but were preparing from 8am, & finished at about 3am. Then I had to read the GUKPT UPdate! We started again at 10am on Sunday (I was late - running on fumes), & we were wrapped up by 5pm. Drove home - 140 miles - via DTD, like a plonker, & was there until 6am Monday.
Down to Luton this afternoon, opened up the e-Mails, don't go there. Then another storm blew up, but I hung in, I just refuse allow a little wind in my face to ever get the better of me. Game on.
Wandered across to Luton Cardroom, had a few lovely hours relaxation, away from the shite, but busted out - unforced error. Just read the Final Day Update from The Vic - fairy-tale stuff, & I'm so proud & pleased for Maria.

The week in prospect.
Tuesday, a meeting in Feltham midday, & the Show in the Evening.
Wednesday, there's TWO Omaha Comps in, a £500 at The Empire, & the £100 at DTD. I fancy the Empuire one, but Parking up there is a bloody nightmare, so I'll probably play DTD instead, I wanna support that DTD £100 Omaha jobbie, it will grow in time if we support it.
Thursday back down to Feltham for a Meet, & the Luton Comp on the way home maybe.
Friday, down to Walthamstow for what looks like a nice comp, £300-er, 20k chips, a 2 day thing. Maria is coming down, we'll prob come down together, Tom too, Compo's coming, Tighty, maybe Rooks, should be a hoot.
Sunday, the Sky Show.

In the £100-er at Luton on Sunday night, Tighty held
, & saw a Board that included......
His Oppo, a young Chinese Lady, held
I can't think of anyone who's suffered the string of bad form that Tighty has over the last 6 months, but he never - ever - complains, just acepts it, & moves on. A truly Big Man.

Maria's result - I can't tell you how pleased I am for her. Nobody knows how tough it's been for her the last 12 months, but she battled on. Another truly Big Man.

Red played the £100 at DTD Sunday night, & never had more than 10xBB's. But he just refuses to bust, & kept plugging away, & Finalled, & was soon Chip Daddy. Then he busted, 4th, I think, for about a grand, after losing a couple of races. He said "I won some races to hang in, then it went the other way, but I had a ball". For Services to Grinding, arise Lord Tom. A truly Plump Man.
