The reasons the Stones went so big on touring is that, thanks to people like Andrew Loog Oldham, they made just about nothing from their early records. They couldn't be like The Beatles, and just split up and live off the proceeds of their records for ever.

There's the Hawkwind approach to getting round that sort of problem. Record new versions of the songs on a different label to start earning money from your own creative output. Which reminds me, Space Ritual is due a listen in the car sometime this week.

lol..you obviously are new..all my opinions are worthless...didn't know that that needed to be cleared up...I assumed everybody knew (at least those that have been reading my other posts should know). But thanks for showing an interest and for bringing an enlightened view to the debate on sports in drugs...really..much appreciated. I look forward to more of your work.

I have nothing to contribute to the debate. I was merely highlighting the futility of making statements that you are unable to back up. I might as well say that I think Theo Walcott is a smack head. Without any evidence, it's a meaningless assertion and hardly an enlighted contribution to the debate on 'sports in drugs' (sic).

Oh yeah, and Boldie, here’s a tip for you. Just because you have an opinion on every subject under the sun and have a Tourette-style compulsion to post your every waking thought on this forum, doesn’t make your opinions any more credible than those of us who post less frequently.

I thought we already established (with me confirming your original idea) that my opinions are worthless...therefore almost by definition my opinion is unlikely to be more credible than yours, no?

Oh and you do not want to see  me go all "Tourette" on the forum..I'd overtake Snoopies post count within a week Smiley..I actually restrain myself enormously.

Heartens me to see I got you to almost double your post count though. See, thanks to me you are now more active on this lovely forum...you should be thanking me really Smiley

I have no problem with you thinkin Walcott is a smackhead BTW..I don't even need to see pictures...it's fine...really...it even explains why he's such a fast little bugger....do you think that's why Eriksson took him to the world-cup last time?..Did Sven do drugs with Theo?...Does Theo have proof and did he blackmail Sven into taking him to the WC? Sven's taking the magic mushrooms, isn't he?..i knew there was something dodgy about him!...I'm gonna phone the News of the world!...sell the story for millions!

There was a story floating around in dog-racing and football circles that it was the side effects of an "away" game that he was anxious to keep secret. No idea whether true or not, but it would be no surprise after reading the "Christmas fixture" match reports.

Oh now that's really good...Rio, while smoking a spliff, caught the clap from Westmead Hawk!

You see, the problem I had with your original assertion was that it undermines what could be an interesting debate. It's an opinion purporting to back up your stance on drugs in sport, but in reality it's just recycling second hand gossip. When you're trying to make a serious point - as you were - you can't expect to be taken seriously when the basis of your argument is a piece of unsubstantiated gossip.

Incidentally, and back on topic, Ferdinand missed just one drug test, not ‘several’ as you claimed.

The disappearance of the McCann girl was just awful, but the media manipulation was dreadful, & deflected public interest away from the story. It was on the front pages almost daily, & mostly made up stuff - "I saw Maddie & dodgy looking bloke says woman" conveniently forgtting that this story surfaced 9 months after the event. Truth is, the McCanns were most probably suing the newspapers for suggesting they killed her, so, in mitigation, they agreed to raise the profile of the story. World Media Tours, film rights, book rights, Max Clifford, PR Agencies, da de da, sickened me to the point of cynicism. I hope the girl is safe & well, but this whole thing was handled dreadfully.

Contrast that story to the Shnnon Matthews tale, for which Media interest was sparing at best for weeks on end. It's gone hyper again now, & no wonder, but this is a tale to send shivers down the spine of any parent. What gives in Dewsbury? Here's the outline & timeline.

Shannon Matthews is 9. She's one of 7 kids by the same mother. Her mother refers to her as a twin, because "she has the same dad as another of mine". Her mothers 7 kids have been by 5 different Fathers.

Shannon used her bedroom wall as a diary, & it's full of "I want to go & live with my (real) Dad" scribblings. Her real Dad lives in nearby Huddersfield, with Shannon's 10 year-old "twin" brother.

February 9th - Shannon disappears. Papers full of it. Classmates told of Shannon crying all day at school that day. She leaves school but does not arrive home.

February 11th. No sign, no trace, no clues.

February 12th. A McCann-style fund is started, it eventually raised £50,500. Of that £50,500, £50,000 came from "The Sun".

February & Early March. Occasional media interest, mostly pics & interviews with the Mum, & her current partner, one Craig Meehan.

March 11th. After persistent rumours, Shannon's Stepfather, Craig Meehan, (the Mum's current partner), issues a Statemnt denying he hit the girl frequently, & insisting he had a good relationship with Shannon.

March 13th. Shannon is found, apparently safe & well, & looking quite normal. She was in a house 1 mile from her home. Mick Donovan - formerly known as Paul Drake - is arrested on suspicion of her abduction. He is an uncle of Craig Meehan, (Shannon's Mum's current partner). The mother is only allowed to be re-united with Shannon briefly, she is then "taken into care voluntarily".

April 1st. Craig Meehan (the stepfather) is arrested & charged with downloading 10 "indecent pictures" of children on his home computer. The 10 pictures are described as "specimen charges", implying there are many more. Police state that there is little likelihood of Shannon being released back to the family home for the foreseeable future, & show concern for the other children in Shannon's home.

April 2nd - Craig Meehan remanded on Bail. The mother is now allowed to see her Daughter briefly.

April 3rd - Two women are arrested on charges related to the abduction of Shannon, one charged with aiding & abetting Mick Donovan, (charged with the abduction) the other with "perverting the course of justice". (Obstructing the inquiry). One of them, Amanda Hyatt, is the sister of Craig Meehan, the Stepfather charged with downloading indecent pics of children. The other is Alice Meehan, who is Craig's mother. Shannon is allowed more time with her Mum, but remains in care.

What an amazing, & utterly abhorrent, story. Sometimes it's a bad thing to read between the lines. What sort of life has that poor girl had? I so hope she gets respect & happiness for the rest of her life.

This gets more & more macabre. An Update of the TimeLine in the 2 days since I was last Online.

Sunday 6th. Matthew Donavan, uncle of Craig Meehan (the Stepfather since arrested on charges of downloading sexual images of children), formerly known as Paul Drake, on remand on charges of Abducting the girl, is hospitalised after a "serious self-harm incident". (Allegedly slit his wrists). He was hospitalised, & recovered, (doubtless to the relief of all....) & has since been returned to Prison.

Monday 7th. Karen Matthews, the mother of the abducted girl, now arrested on charges of perverting the course of justice. BBC News report....."Conspiracy to pervert the course of justice can cover a wide range of actions but one suggestion is that when Shannon first disappeared, Ms Matthews might have known more about her daughter's whereabouts than she told police.

Wow, WHAT a tale.

But the missing pieces of this whole curious jugsaw are now falling into place, & it's starting to make sense, if "sense" be the right word. The daughter remains "in care".

I just hope that girl, & one can but wonder what sort of life she has led so far, comes through it all, & has a good life. She deserves a break, from what I can see.
