Luton, Monday
Wow, my Diary has exploded with Posts & Debate, lovely, & thank you. Keep it coming please. I'll try & reply to as much as possible soonest. The Chambers thing seems to have aroused much interest, though not the extraordinary Shannon Matthews tale. Comments about Rio Ferdinand are out of order - I mean, he was England Captain the other week I think, so he must be as clean as a whistle. Surely.......?
I'm knackered, after a weekend that was full-on hedonism, doing my favourite things. More of which, later.
It's the Luton Fessie this week, & my Diary has worked out badly for it, with just Thursday's Omaha playable for me. But, bittersweetly, I picked up a "spare" Sky Poker Shift for Thursday, so thats the Luton Fessie totally down the pan for me. Luton Fessies are my very favourite Poker Fessies, & I get lucly there more than anywhere else, so it's a bit of a blow, but we can't have it all ways, & the week will be fun anyway, & a few extra bob coming in rather than going out does no harm. And I always enjoy doing Sky Poker work, so it all levels out. Work just has to come first, I have limited earning time at my age.
Monday - planned to play the Luton Monday-er, but it's a Super-Sat I gather, so maybe I'll find a nice steady DC game there, or even play the Super-Sat & pass the Seat (in the unlikely event that....) on to someone.
Tuesday - a meet in London in the morning, & a Sky Poker Staff Tourney in the afternoon in London. It's the office & technical crew, so it'll be good fun, it's good that we all get together now & then away from the Office/Studio.
Wednesday - Sky Show.
Thursday - Sky Show again - guests are Roberto Romanello, & some donk I've never heard of - one Alex Martin I believe.......Should be lively!
Friday - go home, & prepare for the weekend, not sure if I'll play DTD on Friday night, or travel up to Newcastle a day early to get settled.
Saturday & Sunday - Virgin Fessie in Newcastle. Chli is going up by train on the Saturday morning from Grantham, & I'm umming & arring as to whether to go on the Friday, or with her on the Saturday. Actually, I do quite like Trains, & the GNER is particularly good - free wifi & all - so that's tempting.

Great debate re drugs in sport and recreational drug taking by sportsmen. I used to follow the snooker circuit around and know of at least two players that have pulled out of events because they had mistimed their recreational drug taking before the next event.
Players knew exactly how long it took for the substances to go thru the body and when they needed to be 'clean' in order to pass the test at the next tourney. One of the players has pulled out on more than one occasion citing a bad neck when he has got the calculation wrong.
For me taking performance enhancing stuff is clear cheating and serious bans are the way forward but its important to differentiate between cheating drugs and recreational drugs. If Rio had been tugging away on the weed and then realised he would test positive and tried to dodge the test then its a really tricky area.

I agree. If he'd been smoking weed then he wasn't trying to cheat. He was just stupid.
The penalty for smoking weed shouldn't be too punitive, and should in fact be less than the charge of missing a test (which could be hiding the use of performance-enhancing drugs). To be honest, I don't know what the penalties are for the different offences. Does anyone know the ranges of punishments?
The penalty for taking performance-enhancing drugs should be severe.

Recreational or performance enhancing shouldn't make a difference.
Top sporstmen/women are revered by youngsters and only set a bad example. Should we be saying, it's ok Rio, you only did a bit of weed (if that's what he did), it doesn't enhance your onfield performance...........to hell with those that idolise you and will see fit to copy you?

GNER Shouldn't take weed just before the start of the event, especially not with any of Shannon's relatives, Rio Ferdinand, Dwain Chambers or Boldie.

GNER is no more. Its national express and the rolling stock is awful, as are their prices. Not sure if wi-fi is free or not thou.

Oh but it SHOULD make a difference. Like I said, taking recreational drugs is plain stupid - but they're not trying to cheat (if anything, it will affect their performances detrimentally).
I'm not saying they should be instantly forgiven or given no punishment, but I'm saying the punishment for taking performance-enhancing drugs should be far more severe.
