For Tal's benefit, those posh seats cost $25 iirc, & were right behind the wicketkeeper chap.

This was where we sat at the Baseball last year.

Had the same seats when I went with Mr Camel, too.

You should take the mesh off your camera.

That is one fine seat.

Fancy watching the Las Vegas Outlaws tomorrow afternoon, tikay?

Indoor american football. High scoring games on a small pitch. Lots of atmosphere. Something completely different. Starts 2pm.

Tickets available.

Anyone else fancy it?

Have you been before? Is it worth the trip?

Won't know if I'm available until we have our Team Meet in the morning, but Saturday afternoon is likely to be a "no", as we have interviews to sort.

On a brighter note, it's still not confirmed, but I think the "Players Welcome Party" is on Sunday evening, which, if correct, means I may be able to get a pass for the Baseball on Monday. Would really like to go to the Baseball.

Fair enough.

Not exactly getting it quietly, so apologies, but I've spent the last two hours in my suite watching the dusk come in. Never done that here before. Really is something special. I have a view of the Rio to the left, the strip dead ahead (across the Bellagio fountains and with Flamingo, Venetian, Encore and Stratosphere in the increasing distance) and an airstrip to the right. All the time, there's something going on. As we'd say at home, bostin'.

I only came back to the room for a sandwich! It's dinner time now!

Stakers Update

I know it's stale news, but I need to wrap up the last three Events.

So, starting with the $350 PLO8 @ Golden Nugget.

As you know, we made Day 2 in OK shape, except that it meant missing the start of the WSOP $1,500 PLO8.

9 of us remained, including several shorties. For once, the early stages went to plan, & the shorties, bar one, all bust, leaving 5 of us, of whom 3 were deep stacked & aggro. I was struggling to find spots to gamble, but I knew I had to, as I was dropping into sub 10 Bigs.

Cue the arrival of Tal......

It was great to see him, & I had my own little rail. almost instantly - Tal had barely sat down, I found a spot with something like A-K-9-4, not the greatest ammo to go to war with, but it's 2 way, & might even be in ok shape against an aggro serial opener.

And that's exactly how it panned out. He had opened, I shoved. He sat & thought for ages, then some ill-mannered idiot said to him "you have to call". Which annoyed me a tad, it was bang out of order, even though, as the kid had tanked for ages, I was pretty sure I was in decent shape & wanted the call. He had the low-tastic 2-3-3-5, so I was in pretty good shape. Seriously, the kid must have been an internet player, with no idea of live etiquette, & I was pretty cross with him even though I wanted the call. There needs to be a "Probation Period" for internet players who play live for the first time, or a little induction course, it's ridic they can spout such nonsense. He never realised why it was wrong, either.

We never fell out, but I saw him the next day & we discussed why he should not have said it. He replied "but he DID have to call".......... At which point, I gave up trying to explain.

Anyway, we saw this extraordinary flop.....

Not something we see very often. So I've flopped quads, & a nice double up. Or so I thought - it then came low-low, & in fact the kid hit the  wheel, & so we chopped it. Quads & a chop, love PLO8.

Almost the next hand, it was the other way round. Aggro kid (good kid, nice player) opened, & it gave me the ideal leverage to pot it with A-3-3-8 with clubs. Not a great hand at all, but needs must & all that. An ace in PLO8 is immensely powerful.

He had a high only affair, so I just needed a nice low board or an A (he never had an ace). It came high high high & that was that, it was all over.

Been a fun comp that, & I had chips from the get go, until a lapse of concentration caused me to butcher a hand & lose half my stack.

It was then the usual low-stacked grind until the money bubble, after which I enjoyed my best few levels all trip, & chipped up a treat.

Enjoyed it immensely, & it was my third cash inside a week, after Binions $850, Venetian $2,290, & now Golden Nugget $3,230. (All figures approx., as I need to check back).

Suddenly, my confidence was high, & I jumped in a cab & headed straight across to The Rio for the WSOP $1,500 PLO8. I had been playing for 17 of the previous 27 hours, but adrenalin is an amazingly powerful thing, & I was not in the least tired. And I had a wad of $$$'s in my pocket. I got a Haggen-Dazs Choc Ice on the way, too. What better preparation can there be?

You can see McCarron from your room? Happy days.

The Vegas sunset is a bit special, Gill & I went onto the Voodoo Roof last year & watched the sun go down, the freight trains go past, the helicopters doing the "Strip Tour", & the Southwest 737-700's coming into land at McCarron. In fact we did it again this year, but there were no freight trains this time, so it was a bit like that 2nd cup of tea in the morning.

Yes, it's fair to say the Marky/Galloway 'money in passport on check in' trick worked rather well this time. Heartily recommend it.

The sun has completely set here now. Nearly a quarter to nine. The mp3 player has just shuffled from Borgore to Roxy Music. What was a quivering yellow hue is now a rising landscape of psychadelia through a sea of darkness. The image of Las Vegas is very much that it's one long road, but this is no skinny model. She's a big lass.

Very nice, but we don't do that sort of stuff on this thread if you don't mind. Stick to chat or photo's about 737's, Interstate 15, or Amtrak Named Expresses please, but no arty bollox about the setting sun slipping beneath the red hued mountain ranges shimmering in the distance.  That's for Red's Diary. He loves that sort of shite.
