thought carshare was very endearing. was a huge hit too, going to win Bafta's. the actress in it was the standout performance though, of the two

i think Kay was a bit more hit and miss in cradle to grave (that accent...) but the overall story great fun, as was the book and baker is in general on radio

Cradle to Grave <<<<<<<<<<The Books<<<<<<<<<<< Danny Baker telling the stories

It's done well enough, but lacks the spark that exists when Danny is just writing, or talking about his early life.

I think some of the appeal of Cradle to Grave to the older viewers is the reawakening of memories due to the clothing , cars etc of a bygone time.

Peter Kay could literally just stand in a living room watching paint dry and people would say it was great.

Think Cradle to Grave is at best a 5/10, and I'm being kind, Car Share was the same, really don't understand the love for either show.

I'm a fan of Peter Kay as well, his stand up was great and I loved many of the earlier tv programs he did.

I dont like his comedy or his tv work

Superb in this

The Tarrant show is pretty good

Just watched it on catch up as same time as Danny Baker so that takes priority.

He has always been a train nut pretty sure you would like it.

What Danny Baker show - where, what, when?

Are you back home now, fully recovered?

home yes recovered 90%

cradle to grave surely you have been watching? been top 3 on iplayer since started bbc2 thursday 9pm based on first book a brilliant watch Peter Kay is inspired casting.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b06h346c/cradle-to-grave-episode-6

Can still watch from episode 2 online.

Nope, never even knew it had started.

Glad to hear you are back home.

What's it like to be laid up in hossie for weeks on end? Food OK?

I've done a couple 7 day stints, and one fortnight... Food was alright,, but not enough of it, and I was ordering takeaways in after a few days Wink

Glad you're on the mend, horsey.

Hi Pops

Hope all is good with you.
I read with interest that Gill had taken up running as many years ago whilst a personal trainer in my twenties I was approached by a lady in her 50's who hadn't run more than a couple of miles in her life before and wanted training to run a marathon within 6 months when she was going to New York.

Could you confirm whether running will be part of this years training regime for your good self pre Vegas like last year?

Say what?

If Gill ever reads that, you will be in SO much trouble. You just made a fatal error there, Mr B.

As to that photoshop, agree with booder, it's best not even imagined, never mind seen.

Do you ever play golf? Well let me tell you something.

Never - like NEVER - enter the Gents locker room on Seniors Day. Bad things will be seen. The sight of a dozen elderly gents prancing around naked, with flabby wrinkles & shrivelled up willies is not a sight you'll ever want to see again, trust me.

I was playing my poker session last night when a good (virtual) pal of mine suddenly said in the chat box "good luck to Gill in her 10k run, bla bla".

I was a little taken aback, as I never knew he was a Member here, but it turns out he is a regular lurker on this diary & the blonde Betting Board, so a quick shout out to "winshoes", aka Andrew.

Talk of which, the 10k Richmond Run is a week today, & tension is mounting.

Apparently, for dinner the night before we have to eat "carbs", whatever they are.

She has a problem with blisters, too. Originally she just had regular plimsolls (trainers?), then she paid £100 for a proper pair, but it has not solved the issue.

Anyone know the best answer to avoid blisters when jog jog jogging?

I can't even bear to look at them, I'd faint, but it's a bit of a bugger.

If I was going to be doing a lot of hillwalking I used to rub surgical spirits on my feet every night for a couple of weeks before.

Also Compeed's blister pads are really good for when you have blisters.

Lastly, if the blister hasn't burst - use a needle to thread a piece of thread into and back out of the lose skin before bedtime - it will then drain the fluid and the lose skin will reattach and go hard, helping prevent the same blister appearing.

Joobs used to run in anti-blister socks for marathons, whatever they are. Either way they worked for her. Chances are its her socks rather than her shoes.

Sports Direct have 'em for a fiver I think.

Absolutely this, blisters are mainly caused by a combination of moisture/heat/friction. Even without socks friction can be caused by loose fitting trainers.

I mostly avoided blisters by wearing two pairs of socks after having this recommended to me from a good Army friend who was also a top cross country/triathlon/marathon runner. His reasoning was tht any friction was then between the outer sock and shoe and not directly on the foot itself. Having taken this advice many years ago I have never suffered from blisters and I've done a few massive hikes and many long runs without a problem.

I prefer the slice and dice method of treatment as performed on poor Jack on our walking thread. :-)

As others have already posted, very likely to be the socks.
Though they look awful, as too long, even when rolled down, I have always found football socks the best for avoiding blisters.
Can get much better looking ones for running though

I run nearly 70 miles every week and the key for me is keeping everything really dry and the thickest socks that will fit inside my trainers. Only got blisters once, in the Brighton marathon but it should be good advice.
