I’m no wordsmith, esp with regard to cricket, but wouldn’t “smote” be okay?

Most certainly OK.

I see him most years in Vegas, or get the occasional PM from him, but I never saw him this year. Hope he's OK.

Always made me laugh at the poker table, when he took so long over every decision, always stood up when put to a decision, "ayyayyayy".

Even slower in golf, you could grow a beard whilst he was lining up a putt.

Never forgave him for introducing me to Spread Betting.

Dangerous game that spread betting.

My last spread bet was probably over 20 years ago. Got tipsy one Sunday afternoon , got in
and Celtic v someone on box and had a little dabble selling shirt numbers during half time interval.

0-0 at half time , think I sold for £5 at around 14-16 . They brought a sub on , number 39 , scored a
hat trick in 2nd half , cost me over £500 when all I wanted was a little interest in the match.

Never had a spread bet since.

You have far more interesting tales of spread betting I am sure !

Funnily enough I bumped into him at Wollaton around a week ago, well I actually parked next to a car that turned out to be his and then played a few holes with him and his new American wife!

I think he's here for another week or so as we waved to each other on the course on Monday.

He hit the ball better, and straighter than I've ever seen him do before during that few holes we played, and the bastard hits iron off the tee past my driver too.

Note he does not include the excellent "twatted".

When struggling with the shanks, a scratch golfers advice was "just twat it"

In some Yorkshire regions, a glancing blow or a clout is a skite, as in, "I'll skite half your face off".

Smote is the past participle of smite.

He smites the ball
He smote the ball

I recall several years ago in the early years of this forum, receiving a 'phone-call from his Teekness during which I was severely reprimanded for using the word "twat" on the forum, a word which a couple of lady members based in the North had taken exception to as it apparently depicts female genitalia, something I was totally unaware of.

I guess it's okay to use these days though.

Reminds me of the old air hostess joke.

"Would you like some of our TWA coffee Sir?"

"No thanks Miss, but I'd like some of your TWAT".
