More B-52 geekage.

the wingtips on a B-52 flex a total of 32 feet.

I saw a program about the 747. That was about 10m!!

WTF!!!

That's far too scary to think about. I am in no way scared of flying but this particular stat is one that I try to forget.

If they didn't flex they'd snap, it's the same reason that skyscrapers sway.

Right then. A couple of questions from an aircraft idiot both concerning the B52.

Firstly can it actually take off and land from that aircraft carrier? I know it looks ridiculously impossible but they obviously got it on there somehow.

If it doesn't take off and land from there how the f**k did they get it on there.

Question 1 obviously assumes that Tikay wasn't levelling with his "not photoshop" comment.

Secondly how big is it compared to a 747? I've seen one of them in real life so I could get an idea of scale if I knew this.

Cheers

its about 2/3rds the length of a 747 and pretty similar wingspan.

As to that pic i am baffled, it cant land/take-off from there you were right.

Crane FFS

How! It just seems so unlikely, as it appears to be, if it needed new parts surely it would be easier to take the parts to the A/C/

I can't imagine a crane with a boom long enough to reach out to the middle of that deck carrying something so big and heavy.
