a fiver in those days! hope you spent it wisely and bought a house with it
Behave.
My weekly wage was a Tenner then.
I was an Indentured Apprentice, & this guy poached me. "What are your dreams Tony?".
I'm thinking like £12 pounds 10 shillings a week.
"Come & work for me, & I guarantee you, within 5 years, you'll be on a minumum - MINIMUM - of £1,000 per year".
He got his man, that deal lasted 19 years, & what a story that was, with the most amazing ending.
When it ended - very suddenly- I was penniless, car-less, homeless, & jobless, & I'd been stung for my life savings, £29,000
And so began another even more amazing chapter.
I so wish I had time to commit all this stuff to paper, just for my own benefit really.
My childhood would be a book in itself, & I don't say that lightly.
Most of the boxes are ticked now, even the mortgage is paid off. Bit sad, in some ways, very satisfying in others.

I just spent 4 days watching poker, talking about poker, making TV Shows about poker, commentating on poker, & yet I've not touched a single card, or played one hand.
So I was gagging to play tonight, & I thought I'd trundle down to Luton.
It transpires it's a £20 rebuy, with £5.75 juice (that's nearly 29%) - & it's self-deal. Got 14 runners last week, & the Final started during the Rebuy period.
Think I'll pass on that.
I want to hire a big bus, & get every Cardroom Suprervisor in it, & take them to DTD. "Look, THIS is how to fill a Cardroom boys". It's not THAT difficult.
Why do you think it is that so many local cardrooms are sooooooo bad when there's clearly demand for good poker tournaments up and down the country.Out of the 3 casino's in newcastle the smallest "name" casino is by far run the best.I hardly ever play live because it's run so bad, last time i did i played at aspers and there was a young lad playing it was clearly his 1st time live and within 5/10 minutes the td asked him to move to another table as he was next bb. The lad looked pretty confused and wasn't sure what to do so just looked at him so the td said very aggresiively "what am a speaking french shift other to the other table" nice way to go on with paying customers I said to the rest of the table he was out of order which he heard so i just stared at him was expecting to get barred lol i hear people have for less, doubt i'll go back
This is the sort of thing that worries me about playing live for the first time.
I'm itching to play live for the first time but would hate for a bad experience to spoil my enjoyment of a game i love.
Can't shuffle either which is not helping my anxiety!

Thankyou you are very kind.
I live in the stunning city of Coventry!.
I was actually thinking that SPUKT would be ideal as i'm more likely to encounter folk that are in the same boat - safety in numbers lol.
I was also musing over the next Blonde bash but perhaps all the debauchary and wife swapping may be abit much first up
.
Ive been playing poker for ages so i shouldn't be worried really.
Suppose its like riding a bike.

Mick McCool's blog is back, & as usual, it's one of those reads where you never quite know what to expect. It's like the first bend of a F1 race, you half expect a car crash, & are almost disappointed if you don't.
It's jaw-dropping stuff, where Mick holds his hands up to some past misdemeanours, a lot of self-deprecatory stuff, & almost no attacks on others - Neil Channing apart. There's a bit of history there, & Neil can look after himself, so I guess that'll be OK, though Neil is much brighter than he looks & sounds, and is probably not an opponent I'd deliberately target.
Well worth a read though, all of it.
I get a mention, but for once it's not a personal attrack, just a passing, & not at all offensive, comment on the trip the old fogeys had to Duxford.
One thing did touch a nerve with me though, & for once, it was not Mick who I was at odds with. Mick wrote.....
At the start of the interview all my chat strategy and plans of not sticking my hoof in my big gob went down the pan, as l was forced to talk about my exclusion from Dusk Till Dawn, again! After a few minutes blubbering about DTD and Casino Juice, l had a bit of a handbag session about Channing's Audio Biography
I have to say, I thought Jesse was a bit out of order there, though I do understand that sensationalism is the fashion these days, & if Jesse could goad Mick into saying something less than pleasant, it'd be good for the Poker Show.
So I suppose it was inevitable, but I really did think it was wrong. I like Eddie very much - admiration & respect in big dollops - & I get along splendidly with Jesse, & have done for years.
I was so miffed by this, I decided to write to Eddie & air my view, but then decided it was probz best not to, as it's so hard to accurately convey one's precise feelings & points in writing, & I'd mess up. Being as sharp as a tack, he'd probably invite me on, & I'd walk into the same trap, too*.
Hard to imagine me defending Mick McCool, too!, but you know what I mean, there was no need to pour more petrol on the McCool-DTD fire, & goading Mick that way was a bit out of order imo. I guess controversy is the current fashion, but that was like a red rag to a McCool bull.
Anyway, I'll chat it through with Eddie when I next see him I think, & no doubt he'll rip me to shreds, but it won't harm our relationship, he's brighter than that. An unequal battle, that one, I prefer to take on lesser mortals if I'm forced to fight. Weird, me.
* In fact, for commercial reasons, I probably could not be a Guest on that Show. That's my excuse, anyway......
clearly they like a bit of controversy,
aren't boyles sponsoring fullflush now the guy who goes around calling people "fags" and "retards", I think he is presenting their show or something soon.
plz be telling them that I will happily fight fullflush, smellmuth, tony g or even patrik antonius on camera for 100% rakesback and a few live donkament entry fees. obv not greekstein tho. i ain't that stupid
Embarrassingly, I don't know who or what "fulflush" is, probably best left that way judging by your comments. Does he say these things to peeps faces, or Online?
I hope I'm never in a position commercially to have to engage with guys like that. I guess that's why Eddies a zillionaire, he knows what the public wants. He'll manage fine without my head-count.
I'm actually really down right now about how society is becoming so aggro, & it's so reflected on blonde. I don't know what to do about it either, that's the thing, the tide of unbridled rudeness & aggression is coming in fast, & I'm not King Canute. I really "lost it" yesterday, & I'm still mulling over where I go from here.
The total devaluation of decency, honour, & good manners, was so, so rapid.
Sure its not a new happening, but i've noticed recently how decency standards seem to have dropped.
The amount of times i'm regularly in town and hear children ( some young and some not so young ) speaking to their parents like they are something off the bottom of their shoe is sadly on the increase.
If i'd dare to speak to my parents like that even now at 36 i'd be very sorry very quickly!
As for forum aggro, could this just be another one of those moods that effect fora from time to time?
Maybe, but the moving average & the long-term graphs are all heading south.

Yes, like riding a bike.
The blonde Bash or the SPUKT would both be ideal for you, although I'm unlikely to be at the former.

Proper Apprenticeship it was, "Articles" & everything. Qualified Builders Merchant, me, Light Side & Heavy Side. First Exams I ever Passed, unless you count 2 City & Guilds, one in Maths, the other in Fibrous Plastering. The latter came in well handy.
If you want to know how many flettons, or Class A Blue Engineering, or Class B Southwater Reds (all bricks) are in a ton, I'm your man. Or the BS for Cast-Iron Manhole Covers & Frames (BS 497, Class A, Heavy, Class B, Medium, Class C, Light).
Three quarter section branch bends in salt-glazed earthenware drainage channels were my speciality.
The Apprecticeship was old-fashioned, but very good. We had to learn about Portland Cement, Sirapite (plaster) , Thistle, & the then new-fangled lightweight plaster, Carlite. All of which was delivered in 1cwt sacks, so to learn about it, I had to unload the lorries, by hand. There are 160 x 1 cwt sacks in a lorry-load load of Cement or Plaster......
In my spare time, I took a Settling Course with William Hill, - no Genies or Computers in those day, all mental arithmetic - & scored 99.6%, so they offered me a job as a Shop Manager. No thanks.
I got one question slightly wrong in the Settling Exam, pah.
It was about an 7/2 shot, joint favourite of three, each way, in a 6 runner race, & it dead-heated for 2nd, with a 4/- (20p) in the £ Rule 4 Deduction, in an ATC Bet, & the Bet was for the un-named 2nd Favourite.
Marvellous.

Where do you live?
Live Poker is the nuts.
Tell me where you live, & I'll arrange for a friendly face to show you the ropes on your first event, or I'll come with you if it's somewhere I can reasonably get to.
Alterbatively - fingers crossed -
the 2009/10 SPUKT
might be announced soon (I choose my words with care, there...) & if you come along, we'll make sure you have the best days poker you've ever had.
ooooh
You missed the bit where I said " choose my words with care".
Horses must be tethered for now.
Good to see you here man, & at DTD the other day - - you still burning up the SP Cash Tables?
Now, back to "elsewhere" with you, you'll get me in trouble.

a fiver in those days! hope you spent it wisely and bought a house with it
When it ended - very suddenly- I was penniless, car-less, homeless, & jobless.
[ X ] Born
[ X ] Childhood
[ X ] Job
[ X ] Get Mortgage
[ X ] Pay off mortgage.
[ X ] Retire
[ ] Die.
lol it will happen eventually, unchecking a box wont stop it
It's already happened many times, have you not seen that skypoker show Bolty ?
Fair cop on that, we are all square on the Cardigan now.
You see, we don't have to eff & blind to deliver stunning insults. When will folks learn that?
