interesting story about johnny cash and 'sunday morning coming down'. it was written by kris kristofferson, and he was sure he wanted johhny cash to sing it. at the time he was in the us air force so took a helicopter and landed it in cash's garden in his house in hendersonville tennessee. at the time kris wasnt in anyway a 'star' but still had the balls to go and knock on jc's door and say'im going to play this song for you'...

after cash died, his house was sold to one of the gibb brothers (bee gees), but the house sadly burnt down a couple of years ago, in a mysterious fire.

The song seems made for JC, it just rolls off the tongue for him.

as a songwriter KK was really in a league of his own. he wrote the song 'me and bobby mcgee' apparantly for janis joplin, but she frequently refused to record it. she finally recorded it in 1970, only days before her untimely death.

I enjoyed this teaser from a Hellmuth book some 5 or 6 years ago. It came - allegedly (though it matters not) - from a home game, where 6 guys were playing 4 card PLO.

The hands were......

Seat 1 -

Seat 2 -  three diamonds

Seat 3 -

Seat 4 -

Seat 5 -

Seat 6 -

The Flop came.......

So, literally, something for everyone.

After the  turn, the Board read.....

Top TWO Sets for Seat 4 then. And he thought that was a good card...........

Is that that horsey-speak for a nice little stocking-filler ?

Hey Laz, a recent discovery for me was Townes Van Zant via some Lyle Lovett recordings, just some great heartbreaking songs. He suffered addiction problems & meet a tragic end.

Google "Brough Hill fair" and then come back with your best guess.

She could pull a trailer up a steep hill comfortably because she has (see below) a "back-end"??

Fell ponies were often referred to around the turn of the 19th/20th centuries as either "Fell Galloways" or "Brough Hill ponies" because most of the young stock were sold off at this "back-end" sale. Other fairs were held during the year at Penrith, Wigton, Rosley (near Wigton), Appleby, Kirkby Stephen and Meaburn, but Brough Hill was acknowledged as "the" sale for the hill ponies.

Give me a few days man, as I need to run my eyes across my bookcases for "reminders". I'm doing Dawn an "all-topic" Top Ten, too - I'm down to about 25 on that so far.

But the UK True Crime Top 3 will include Frankie Fraser's book. Undecided on the other two - there are so many, many of them excellent. I rather enjoyed "The General", which Thewy bought for me, but as was in Dublin, so does not count, but it was hugely original. And had a great ending.

Meanwhile, to prove Mad Frankie is a gooner.....

Looks like a gin card for seat 1. Might be a slight fave here.
