There are no more tens, I think the point of the hand is that the guy with the nuts on the turn cannot win..

He can if he gets seat 3 or 6 to fold.

Is it true that horses love nutmeg?

Don't know, but if you sprinkle semolina on roast potatioes, it makes them nice & crisp.

That's my handy hint for xmas dinner.

let them cook first before sprinkling with semolina, otherwise it will start to cook, and you will get a gooey mess (again)

Me middy and tommyc got grimmed of some random guy in dtd for a tequila each,i'm still foaming about it now, douchebag

Tikay what 3 books would you most recommend reading on true crime based on these crazy mofo's in this country past or present, thx

And good to see the diary's back on track, v interesting read today

Give me a few days man, as I need to run my eyes across my bookcases for "reminders". I'm doing Dawn an "all-topic" Top Ten, too - I'm down to about 25 on that so far.

But the UK True Crime Top 3 will include Frankie Fraser's book. Undecided on the other two - there are so many, many of them excellent. I rather enjoyed "The General", which Thewy bought for me, but as was in Dublin, so does not count, but it was hugely original. And had a great ending.

Meanwhile, to prove Mad Frankie is a gooner.....

Thanks

Is it true that horses love nutmeg?

As a general rule, horses love any type of fresh fruit, veg, nuts etc.

Some things, like chocolate, cherries, nutmeg, peppers, and the like can cause a nasty reaction.

Was surprised when I read it, which is why I asked.  Was googling mad and stumbled on this  http://www.thejoyofhorses.com/apr99/applebyfair.htm

That's a nice piece Dawn, but the author has had his leg pulled a little while doing his research.

I see he has written a book on Gypsies. "The Appleby Rai" You would think he would have used an upper case G when referring to us.

Blimey...of course!!!  I should have spotted that myself.  Sigh.  Common sense would say question any piece where a lower case G is being used.  Apologies. xx

Note to self - Do not attempt research when tired.

There are quite a few stories in racing where horses have failed random dope-tests after being given chocolate.

Just for completeness Gordon Ramseywhen exactly did you cook these?....!

FTR - par boiled potatoes drained and jiggled about in the pan to get the edges fluffy. Sprinkle with dry semolina and immediately place in a tray of hot fat - ideally goose fat. As per saint Delia have the tray on the hob with the burners going to keep the fat smoking as you add the potatoes. Never fails.

Getting back to the interesting LHC stuff

Theoretically.....if I stuck my hand inside that tubey thing, would I feel anything?

I bet I would not, & the Boffins would say,.....

"ah well, no, you can't feel, see or touch quorks & protons & stuff like that, don't be silly".

How many "beams" (allegedly) circulate at the same time, in each direction?

You know that bit in the original Star Wars film where Obi Wan cuts off the hand of the bad guy in the bar with a lightsabre? It'd be something like that, were it actually possible, given it all runs in a vacuum. Each beam could melt 1 ton of copper. Your hand isn't going to prevent much difficulty Smiley.

One "beam" in each direction consists of 2800 "bunches" of protons with 10^11 protons in each bunch. So, at rest, a "beam" would weigh less than 1 nanogram. Which isn't much. But they're going pretty quickly Smiley.

Ok - basic question - how come it goes round in a circle - why doesn't it go straight and cut through the metal/concrete?
