And with impeccable timing, I just got a PM - my 12,000th since I cleared the inbox 2 years ago.

What time-sponges Forums are. I have had a lot of forum fun, but when I eventually look back for the final summing-up, just before G-R turns up, I think I'll think that those years might have been better spent.

When you're totting up, remember to include what you gave, as well as what you received.

We need more of this sort of stuff.

Hard to believe that you could upset anyone. A true gentleman.

Peter?

I'm assuming that's not a safe-breaker - so explain, please?

Close enough. A Peter is a safe, so, getting things in context, what if I said, "I smashed the jewellers window and grabbed a handful of Tom"?

Did you know that "Little Pete", the old boy who used to play at Walsall, (usually with "Bald Paul" in those days) & had been spotted at DTD recently, was a legendary "peterman"?

Yes. As a matter of fact, I did. People confide these things to me. (Probably because I can be trusted not to post them on public fora)

At a guess, I'd think rhyming slang.  Tom Foolery = Jewellery.

Yes.

What does "peter" rhyme with or is it not rhyming slang or is it another one like "groin" that nobody knows ?
