talk us through the manbag. is it one of maria's old ones?
Absolutely NOT. It's a MANbag. Photo soon, I've just had to purchase a new camera due to some unfortunatenessless.
I had to choose betwen a Givenchy, a Gucci, or a Tula. Obv went for the
latter
. Real leather & everything. A real head-turner.
Technically, you went for the "last", assuming you chose a Tula.
It is only correct to use "latter" when there are just two options available.
I'll excuse you on this occasion since your "productivity" seems to be particularly high today.

Tony,
How do you manage to slip back into it so effortlessly?
Given what followed, can't really answer that now.
It's like getting in a hot or cold bath. Bit at a time, then just go for it. I'm slightly embarrassed by my absence, as you know, but equally it was unavoidable, & I'm not conscience-stricken about it. I've yet to dip my toe into the Mods Room, with it's new chaps, though.

ISIHAC has recovered remarkably from the loss of Humph, in fact I'd venture so far as to say that Jack Dee has got it spot on, the perfect blend of ironic & laconic. He's made for it, really.
Strangely, the Show itself has suddenly become a little dated, it just needs some of the featured segments to be refreshed or replaced.I've yet to hear radio audience more keen to show their eager appreciation for all of the Panel, Jeremy Hardy in particular, who has become almost cult status.
R4, it's Drama Dept excepted, remains terrific value, & a priceless asset.

Did you see the tennis incident where a player was getting abuse from some fans so he went over and spat at them ? He then quit the match after deliberately fouling to lose his service game and he only got a 10k fine, very leniant imo.

Fosse Park Shopping Centre on Sunday afternoon was utterly deserted.
Without the hassle of dawdling shoppers, I took a proper look round, & found to my surprise it has a W H Smith. So that meant that I could perhaps buy some books in readiness for the flight.
The shop was a disgrace to a once-great Brand, untidy, cramped, poor lux levels, & dirty. The Online giants, Amazon & Co, must be killing High-Street hardback sales, & Magazine circulation must surely be dropping off a cliff, so they need to get their act in order.
As to the selection of books on offer, it was largely dismal gush. They were "pushing" a paperback book, said to be "#1 Best-Seller of the Week" (yeah, right), by someone called Frankie Boyle. Who?
In hardbacks, I could barely believe my eyes - "The Peter Andre Story", & "Cheryl Cole", ffs. Has ANYONE, ever, purchased the Peter Andre hardback? Please tell me these are all scheduled for remaindering.
After a wasted half-hour, I'd managed only two selections, one by Chris Evans, & the other one was about Freddie Foreman - the latter (see?) being the 6th or 7th I have on him, so it may just be re-worked stuff.
I had a peruse of the Chris Evans book last night, & it was a total waste of time, written in comic-style, & lacking the detail I was after. I wanted to know how he'd raised all that money to buy Virgin Radio, & his fallout with SMG, but it seems to be just poorly-written laddish nonsense, & very short - 2 or 3 page max - chapters. Chapters need to be 20 pages minimum.
His rise & fall & rise fascinates me. He imploded, then, suddenly, a few years back after a sudden Top Management exodus at Radio 2, he was seen as the peacemaker & father figure. Chris Evans, responsible guy? If true, long odds were available about that not long ago. A shame then, that the book is so awfully presented & written. 1 out of 10.
The Foreman book looks much better, though I've only scanned it & looked at the photos so far.
He's some geezer, & he was in pest control for many years, employed by R & R Kray Bros, East Londion. He killed - well, murdered, technically - the Mad Axeman, Frank Mitchell, & also recorded the most stabbings of Ginger Marks during Ginger's rather bad night in East London, when it's said he had over 200 stab wounds from 4 or 5 different guys, of which more than 100 went right through him. It took ages to clear up the mess. The description - in various books about different people connected with the Krays - of Ginger's gruesome death, are the most harrowing I've ever read. Apparently, when they stabbed him through the neck, he gurgled at some length. That'll teach him to call Ronnie a poofter, even though he deffo was.
Neither book will make the Vegas cut though, I fancy.
I ended up reading a Chapter of a very old bloodstock book, by Bill Curling, about Cecil-Boyd Rochfort, who was the greatest trainer of stayers ever, & was Henry Cecil's stepfather. There was a wonderful piece about an old Patron of Cecil-Boyd Rochfort's, Miss Iselin (?) I think, who owned a fine horse called Wolver Hollow, named after one of her many homes.
To cut a long story short, Wolver Hollow was a difficult horse to train, Stepson Henry looked after it, & when it ran well, Rochfort gave Henry a £50 "gift" on behalf of the owner. The old lady then went blind, (she was 101) then died, & all her horses were sold, except Wolver Hollow, which she left to Rochfort, by now very ill himself.
Wolver Hollow then became one of Henry Cecil's first winners, for his Step-Dad, & many years later, he trained the fabulous "Wollow", who was by Wolver Hollow.
It's a remarkable thing, old money & bloodstock breeding, the lines go back such a long way. That book, which I must have owned top side of 35 years, might make the flight.
It mainly consists of letters between Cecil-Boyd & his owners, many of whom were Americans, & who would come over to Newmarket or Royal Ascot every year on one of the great Cunard Liners. The letter-writing was as smooth as silk, & I'm afraid the internet has destroyed such skillsets. Bill Curling himself died recently, I think he was nearly 100, too.
If that does not kill the Diary, nothing will. Nose hair plucking, indeed.

BTW- There's a branch of Borders accross the road from that WH Smiths.
Also BTW- I never look at the pictures, or read the foreword - prologue until I've read the book.

Frankie Boyle is a Scottish comedian. Whilst some people may find him a little coarse, I find him to be rather amusing. He is a tee-total alcoholic. You might consider him a Scottish version of Frank Skinner (if you know who he is).
Here is one of his pieces of humour; I have paraphrased a little.
When describing the quintessence of Scottishness he recounted how, whilst driving through a town in Scotland, he had seen a man urinating against the front door of a house. After completing his relief and zipping up, the man then retrieved a key from his pocket, opened the door and went in.

I'm amazed, how did I not spot that? I go to Fosse Park every week. I'm back there tomorrow, so I'll take a look, though I can't think where "across the road" (from WHS) actually would be.
I actually thought that Borders Bookshops had gone busto, a few years back.
BTW, the Costa Coffee Shop in Fosse Park charges £2.55 for a really good latte, but there is a Costa "Cabin" on the BSKYB campus at Osterley, where I am today, that only charges £1.10. Subsidised Staff Canteens FTW.

Yes, he sounds as a Scottish comedian should.
Do I know who Frank Sninner is? I should cocoa. He also appeared on DID quite recently, & I'm almost certain that I wrote a Diary piece here about him. He was into
Opera
, of all things, & lost all his money by investing it in AIG. He went Teetotal a long tiime back. Some Tony Adams parallels there.
You really should listen to DID instead of polluting your mind with Oasis & the pretentious Bono & his U2 combo.
It is, however, wonderful to see you Posting this side of the Forum fence. Don't lend any of these buggers any money, though, or invest in their Ponzi schemes, most especially the Bubbles.

I'll catch up with DID as soon as I've sorted out my backlog of Countdown episodes. I'm only 64 episodes behind so "no promises".
