Lol. Cerberus keeps people in, not out.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cerberus
Cerberus is found in the Third Circle of Hell, where
he
oversees and
rends to pieces those who have succumbed to gluttony
, one of Roman Catholicism's seven deadly sins.
He
still bears the marks of the chain with which Hercules captured him.
I like that expression! "rends to pieces", oooooh, I bet that smarts.
Does "gluttony" mean eating a lot?

There's some inconsistency, I think in the most traditional of sources he was most definitely there to stop people getting in - I think the stopping people getting out might have been implied before being overtly written about at a later stage.

I agree that the tourney changes look good, so far
I'm a bit puzzled as to HEM etc though. Surely one of the aims of DC (and by promoting on forums too) is to attract a different type of player, who is going to be more savvy, and presumably drive growth in player numbers and rake that way, at low acquisition cost. Small is big, and that's your core...and I may have the message wrong here...but isn't diversification of player base an aim here?
By not making the DC easy to run HEM and PT on, it seems like you are limiting that diversification/expansion before it even starts.

I wouldn't imagine anyone was keen to pass him in either direction for fear of being rended. (Or rent, or whatever the expression for when he rends you is).

I can't really answer that Rich, because I don't know. I suspect the real reasoning is to priovide a wholly better player experience, & judging by the Beta Model, which I've been using for some 2 months now, it's chalk & cheese compared to the previous. Not a difficult box to tick, mind.
I'm a low-maintenance employee. They tell me what's happening, & I get the word out, simples.
I could query much of what they do, & sometimes do exactly that, but who am I to argue with a business model that has bucked the trend to no mean degree, & appears to be still gathering momentum? It's not a regular stand-alone Room, it works on a common platform & wallet with Bet, Vegas, Bingo, & Odds-Checker.
That's the whole point.
The migration across the entire platform is the key thing. I could blind you with watertight proof of how neat that trick is, but there's a limit to what I should disclose, really as to exact numbers. But it's not all about poker......

The thing is it's not the DC client itself that has transitioned to allowing HEM if you have ze skills, it was the changes made to the hand histories a few months ago where they are now accessible online via the website. it's very very very fiddly but you can get your hhs and eventually get them into HEM if you really want, nothing about the client changes or stops this capability. I'll be interested to see whether sky go about talking about it or continue as is.

Oh I agree, the common wallet thing is extremely neat (in that is incredibly simple to use), and must drive shed-loads of business. Incredibly easy to
spam
energise the player base across it all too.

The theme of multi headed dogs reminds me of a ditty that my paternal grandmother was fond of repeating.
It began thus.
I had a dog, and his name was Ben,
he had nine arseholes, (nearly ten)..

So heaven knows what will happen when the DC is fully released.
you should get a big leap in your numbers when HEM and PT become compatible with sky. playing without a HUD just feels wrong to me now. a bit like wondering around without your trousers on or something.
Possibly.
It's quite an interesting thought, actually, but I would imagine 95% of the existing player base have never heard of either, & would not wish to use such aids. It's a totally different market (at present), & they play for recreational reasons, supported by a very strong Community.
Who'd have thought, players playing poker to enjoy themselves?
I would add that I have never used either, & barely know what they are, but it does not impact upon my enjoyment of the game, or my admittedly modest profitablity. Different strokes, different folks, & all that.
Note the success of APAT when they focused on the smaller buy-in players, ditto DTD with the 900 runner £50 jobbie (could have easily filled 1,500 seats), & Sky Poker. It's where 99% of the poker market is, but these guys don't worry about HEM, PT, Rake, DC's, Staking, & all that stuff. They just want to play a bit of poker, have a bit of fun, without getting all addicted.
PS - I'm forbidden, when "on message" at SP, to use, when referring to Bet, Vegas (Online Slots), Bingo, or Poker, the term "
addictive
". The correct word is, of course,
compelling
.
Compelling is nice, it's good, addictive is bad. Oh yes.
so at the moment you've got a load of recreational players throwing money at each other, you've said in the past that that is good for the site. many serious players would love to play those players on sky but the horrible software and lack of HEM puts them off. now you're improving the software (so the HUD companies should be able to get their SW working with it) and advertising on 2+2. so you get a bunch of good players taking all the money off the site no? not that i'm complaining, looks like sky will be the place to play. for a while at least

"I'm not actually addicted to gambling it's just that I felt compelled to gamble away my mortgage money"
It definitely sounds a lot nicer I must admit.
