Tom, is it true, or an old wives tale, that dogs don't "taste" food? That they gollup down "treats" only because they smell nice?
When I had (the family) dogs, I know that a piece of chocolate disappeared down his throat in one go, "gimme more", but I could never fathom what the dogs "enjoyment" was.
Humans don't "Taste" food either. Smell is about 80% of what we call "Taste"
That's why, when we have a cold, we say we can't taste anything.
Dogs gulp stuff down for several reasons.
1: Natural selection favours gulpers. no point in savouring a meal that your pack-mate is looking to steal.
2: A dogs mouth isn't designed for chewing, it's designed for holding, cutting and tearing.
3: A dog isn't self aware enough to realise that if he eats it slower he will prolong the pleasure.

That should keep even you quiet for a few hours. Off you go. It's a great Diary, honestly. As I announced at Newcastle, Mondy is one of THE best 45-man SNG-ers around. Truly.

Thanks Tom. I adore words like "gollup", "gulp", "lollop". Bet MereLatinRoot can't trace them back to their roots.

+1 From another member of TKP (we try to add a little fun to the game) who usually only has time to usually read and lurk on forums, and sometimes rail on the final tables too if I can stay awake! Also I'm well chuffed you are enjoying the book, I was hoping that you would.
It was fab to meet Mondo & Tighty at SPT too, true legends imo and dear Laxie, I watched you play so well the other night until the discon & was gutted for you.

Thanks Shaz.
The book is awesome, deffo already in the 2011 Top Ten, & it's only January. I'll read 50 or more books this year, but few more attuned to my mind than that. You chose well. I actually suspected you must have asked around as to what book I'd like, which was, I suppose, an uncharitable thought.
Did you see the Show last night? You were one of the "My Name is"! We can, in the Studio, only SEE the interviews in the breaks, not hear them, so I don't know what you said, but you looked very confident, & very well. So, no excuses not to get yourself to Luton now.....They are a mostly grand bunch of folks down there, & they'd all make you very welcome. Diary note - Orford & LML will be there with me on the 25th - be there!
I have so many "thank you" notes to do about Newcastle, & so many other PM's, mostly Sky Poker-related, to do, here & next door, please excuse my tardiness, the pile is so big I can't bear to face it.
The Laxie disconnect thing, yeah, very sad. Put me in a very tricky spot, too. I tried to choose my words carefully, I had both a personal & a business position, but despite my best efforts, I caused some inadvertent upset to a very special friend. (Not Laxie). Low point of the week, that. Laxie took it splendidly though, exactly as expected. Tough kid, her.

It may surprise you Tikay but no the book was totally my idea, I know how you loved Concorde and went on a hunt for a definitive book on the subject and got sidetracked as you often do onto other planes. I used to go to school next to a Hawker Siddeley components factory in Farnworth, Lancashire and remember when the Harrier came out, what an awesome beast and thus was diverted in that direction and found Sir Stanley's book. For my sins my first job when I moved south was on a little tiddly airfield as a buyer/Quality Assurance for parts for a microlight company where I was sent up randomly on the new builds just to keep me on my toes and make sure I was doing my job correctly!
Yes I saw the my name is! I was talking to SkyMandy in the big game chat box and she forewarned me, we had already met via e-mails as it were and along with RichO collaborated on stitching up Ed on Disastermind on the Primo show and she told me I was in for a surprise - for surprise read gobsmacked - I had no idea they had clocked, nevermind recorded you walking over at the end - it has to say the least, along with Disastermind and TKP made my year so much better after finding out about my impending redundancy - so thank you very much, I've been walking around with a grin on my stupid face since Newcastle.
As for Luton, even if we don't qualify Hoggers and I have been chatting and already decided we'll both be there, I'll never get as skinny as LML by then even following the Tikay diet but the thought of Hoggers in a red dress is slightly mindblowing, but I'm hopeful we will come up with something and if not we'll still have a great time and it will be nice to meet even more old faces from the tables.
I'm really surprised about the reaction to your post about the disconnection, I read it and all I read into it was a *big hug* from a friend which I'm sure you would do for a few people, I know I'm a bit naive in many things but still, I find that sad. I think sometimes it mbn to be Tikay and other times I think it mbc too...chin up Sir, well loved you are by many.

At the end of the day the guy had every right to demolish me chips while I was disco'd. Not what I'd do, but then not everybody is the same. Good thing too because it would make the world a pretty boring place.
Not sure what's gone down since but sorry about any stick you've got over it. Ever consider running for a position in the UN? God knows you've more than enough experience after trying to keep so many poker peeps happy over the years.

Yo Bradford Bird.
Mondy is THE most warm-hearted man you could ever wish to meet - no bad in him, not an ounce.
He was just joshing.
blonde goes back a lot further than Sky Community, & we all become charictures after a while. blonde has balla peeps, I'm known as the antithesis of balla, as I have an extremely small cock, far too small to wave, so it was a good spot by the lad - "tikay being balla, wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii".
I blame Orford, anyway, he never misses a trick. I got out my folding to pay Wayne for the L-L, & Orford was on it in a flash, grabbed the cash & in an instant, morphed into Harry Enfield & "loadsamoneyyyyyyyyyyyy". Good telly, I suppose, or at least, "Live" telly.
That Orford, by the bye, is a bit special, & almost a wasted talent. He is SO good on TV, & I'm getting into his ribs a bit of late to goad him into widening his career horizons. He is good enough to have a flagship daily TV or Radio Show. I've told him it's time his Agent pulled his finger out. 2010 was probs THE worst year of his life, but I really want that he has a better 2011. He's a good man, he has no bad in him.
I was so happy for him last night, the "surprise" had been planned for some time, & only 4 peeps were in on the secret. All very hush-hush it was. Typically, there was a huge amount of "wow, good luck Orford", he's much loved by most, &, exactly as I expected, a bit of "it's so not fair" from the me-me-me Minnies. I guess I'll have to go & address that shortly. My job is very much a curates egg, though I mean the modern usage of the expression, not the original.
sorry if I've missed it, but what was the 'surprise'?

I weighed myself over the weekend. Groan. No wonder I feel shite.
Last year, I dropped 5 stone, from 16-6lb to 11st 6lbs.
My weight is now........13st 13lbs!
So I've lumped 2st 7lbs (half the loss) back on in a shade over 6 months. Actually, that's a typical one-year cycle for me, it was always so.
So, the diet began today.
I got me some new scales, & this morning they read 194.6lbs, which is, I think, 13st 13lbs.
Had salad & soup today, tomorrow I go buy the accessories - Ryvita, Oxo cubes, Phili-Lite, etc, & that's it, we are offf & running.
First target is to drop back to 12st, so, 1st 13lbs, which is 27 lbs. I reckon I ought to be nearly there within 2 months, so that's the deal - down to 12 stone by March 12th.
I want to be able to graph it, & Post the Graph on here daily, but don't know how to do that. Any clues, anyone?
The beauty of it is that I'll be feeling better within days, deffo by the weekend.
I'm pleased to bits.
13st 6lb today, so, exactly 7 days in, & the weight loss is a most satisfactory 7lbs.
1lb per day (the early weeks are always the easiest) is quite good considering I never went hungry once, & I'm still eating plenty. Just eating better, & zero-tolerance on shite-food.
Sub 13st by the end of January looks very achievable.
Regular lunchtime routine is Soup, then a large salad, and in the evening, white meat, followed by bucket loads of fresh pineapple & grapes. I allow myself 2 lattes per day.
Trousers & shirts not so tight now, either.
Sleeping much better, no Nurafens or Rennies all week.
All good.

you've always suggested that you wanted blonde and sky to remain separate entities. how are you adjusting to the semi-merger that's come around as a result of the sky sponsorship? are you worried that it will make the wearing of your separate hats more difficult to compartmentalise and manage, or does it make it easier to kill two birds with one stone, so to speak?

Jeez! GREAT question, especially right now.
I'm playing a Tourney right now Claire, I'll reply later, or tomorrow, ditto to Cos's question about how the Sky - blonde deal is going.
The short answer to your question is I'm finding it
incredibly
hard, because the 2 places are so very different, as are the majority of those who inhabit each one. Also, my workload seems to have trebled, & it's a bit of a strain, to be honest, as I'm sort of falling between two stools. There have been some interesting pros & cons, really. I can exist very happily in either, for the most part, but both hats at the same time is really testing me.
I may give a better answer tomorrow, too, as I'm quite fatigued right now, which affects my thinking in a negative way.
The question suggests a good read by you, by the way. Very good read.

Oh yes, absolutely. I assumed that. It's something that is on my mind, so the chance to discuss it is good.
