I saved yesteday's "Times", as it had a couple of great photos, & an article, about a Heron that caught, & promptly gulped down, a huge pike.

The pike was said to be 2ft long. Two photos accompanied the article. The wordy stuff described the cameramans thrill at managing to catch the scene in a series of photos. The guy who got the piccies was Roger Hatcliffe, aged 59, & the photo was taken at Far Ings Nature Reserve, Barton-upon-Humber, Lincs.

The Times is behind a paywall now, & so I can't lift the pictures from Times Online, perhaps reasonably enough.

So I went google imaging, & found the series of photos immediately - see the link below. The photos were first reported back in October!

The Times never actually said the photos were 4 months old, but it seemed reasonable to assume they were up to date, or "recent", it's a frigging newspaper, after all, not a periodical.

Never mind all that, loved these photos, though would have preferred bigger/better.

Man bites dog?

Still with the Times yesterday, a front page sidebar said

"Sniffer dog dies - a dog that held the record for finding the most weapons & home-made bombs in Afghanistan has died, page 11".

The article on Page 11 was full page.....

"Top Bomb sniffer dog dies after handler is shot dead in Helmand".

To be fair, the article which followed was 30% about the dog, & 70% about the handler, Lance Corporal Liam Tasker.

Anything which highlights the tragedy of young men from the British Army dying out there is fine by me, but it's come to something when they have to use the death of the dog to draw attention to the death of a young Soldier.

A search of google images found hundreds of photos of Mark & the dog, "Theo", rather fittingly, I suppose. I could not locate a single photo of Liam on his own, though.

A postscript to the above is that, after Liam was shot dead, the dog, it appears, died of a seizure.

Whatever way you look at it, some story that.

Shame it could not be on Page 1, but Lady Gaga is in town, so fair enough.

Go to the doctors, they will spray something on it and it'll drop off in no time. I had same thing few years ago.

I don't have a GP, in fact, & have not had one since I was a little boy. I don't really believe in them, to be honest.

JNK set me up with a private quack in Belper, but I've not availed myself of his services for a decade or more that I can recall.

Anyway, I solved the problem - temporarily, at least - for now.

My nails needed cutting, the "thing" was steadily growing. A light-bulb moment arrived, & I "pinched" it off between two fingernails. The mental thought of doing it was far worse than the physical pain. Didn't 'arf bleed, too, blood was everywhere, & it bled for a goodly while, quite profusely.

The wound was a bit angry, but within 48 hours, the evidence of it had completely disappeared.

Job done. I expect it will return in due course, but that's one prob sorted for now. The Make-Up Lady was very happy.

Mr D!

How are you?

All well, I hope.

Grandpa Kendall!

I'm really well ta - highly perplexed about lots of personal and business things, but sort of really happy with it all - and I suspect that's a feeling you're more familiar with than most.  Every Friday I want to write and ask "how're the numbers?"...but gee, I'd just upset myself unless they've gone down by 10% and I know the Sky Poker team is far too good for that to happen!  Hope Mother and young Adam are doing well, please give them my very best.

I may well go up to Luton over the weekend to catch up with Rich - will buy you a latte if you're around.  If not, we must catch up - I'm keen to see what 12 stone 12 pounds looks like these days Wink

Tikay….thoughts on the rise to fame of Dan Lobb. I remember back a few years ago when he used to present The Club on Sky Poker with Matt Broughton.
He now covers the sports section for the breakfast show Daybreak on ITV. Does he still keep in touch with the SkyPoker team?

Hmm.

Well......err.....maybe I'll let Mr Duffy answer that.

No, Mr Lobb does not keep in touch with the Sky Poker Team, nor we with him.

He's a good-looking boy, very telegenic. I wore one of his shirts once.

In a way, I greatly admire peeps like him who play their cards well, so to speak, & do OK for themselves. I think over-achieving is a wonderful thing. I should know.

Bottom line is we - he & I - were not exactly a mutual admiration society, but I have no issues with him, no history or bad blood, & I genuinely hope his success continues.

There's some interesting stuff about Dan here....(pardon the snappy link)

http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://tvnewsroom.co.uk/images/news-staff/dan-lobb/dan-lobb-1165.jpg&imgrefurl=http://tvnewsroom.co.uk/people/dan-lobb-3591/&usg=__ffBYkpwxfnl39aZ_HR0WX3tnwT0=&h=281&w=374&sz=20&hl=en&start=2&zoom=1&itbs=1&tbnid=MbAzOFyhPgNhKM:&tbnh=92&tbnw=122&prev=/images%3Fq%3DDan%2BLobb%26hl%3Den%26safe%3Dactive%26sa%3DG%26gbv%3D2%26tbs%3Disch:1&ei=JN9wTevNKYO1hAeQ64U5

This particularly fascinated.....

".....As a child he was ranked in the top seven of his age group at gymnastics.....",

And this even more so....

".......and he can still perform handstands!......"

We had to have a chat one day and I think I may have thrown something that bounced off his forehead.  Not one of my better moments in the boardroom, as Sir Alan might say.

Good to hear you are hanging in there. Some periods in life are a test of character, but in a few years, you'll look back on them with such satisfaction.

I'll not be at Luton this weekend, I'm working Sunday, though I may drop into DTD on Saturday to bump into a few pals & just have a natter. I'm trying to discipline myself to pace myself better, have a bit of downtime once a week, the pace of late has been a bit hot for me, & I run best when fresh. I rested all last weekend, pretty much, & have had boundless zing zest & zong this week, full of energy & creativity. It run out at 4pm today though, bugger.

You'd be very welcome at Luton next weekend, of course, for the SPT. I could even abuse you now. Wink

Adam & Mother are fine, & the numbers remain good, we are still in the "winter traffic mode", & they are staggeringly high, even now. The light nights are coming, though, so they will start their seasonal drift south quite soon.

The Beer Fridge was open again today, I can't remember the last time it was not, once in the last 3 months, maybe?, & that was due to a bad set of footie results. Today's weekly summary was a total green out - a mind-blowing 40 straight greens. Incred.

We got 4 VLV qualifiers already, too, with three more Finals still to come.

Weirest thing happened today. I'd been tweeting some nonsense earlier in the week, & an enquiry about my "Jeddy" tweet was raised in an e-Mail by none other than..........Richard Flint! I nearly died when I realised he follows my social-media stuff. Whoops.

Keep in touch, be good to have a catch up whenever. You know where I am. Easy to find me, too, e-Mail, text, 'phone, blonde, next door, FB, Twitter, MSN, jeez, I'm so owned. I've found a little dodge where I can hide away, all alone & anon, a couple of nights a week now, & it's bliss. No responsibilities to anyone, it's sheer Heaven.
