I believe this is known as "whistling in the dark".

It's a Press Release today, about Unibet.

The Headline was "Poker Revenue down 50%".

Unibet Poker continues to see its poker revenue (reported as gross winning revenue) decline as it slumped 21 percent in the third quarter of 2011 to £3.11 million compared to £3.95 million a year earlier.

The position for the year to date (January to December) looked even more grim with revenue down over 50 percent to £10.1 million from £20.2 million in the same period in 2010 – the company pulled out of France last year.

Poker now makes up just eight percent of Unibet’s gross win revenue compared to 17 percent in the first quarter of 2010.

However the company still appears upbeat about poker saying, “During the third quarter a strong global promotion schedule geared at increasing engagement and number of betting days drove activity with the efficient, effective Gold Rush promotion proving a success which will be repeated during the fourth quarter, and adapted for the annual seasonal Halloween activity.

“Also, the ‘Pocket Card Manager’ was launched whereby players have the facility to preselect which pocket cards they want to play or fold.

“The Unibet Open continues its success as one of Europe’s leading poker tours with the new season continuing in Dublin, attracting many Unibet customers from all over Europe and continued strong media coverage. The Unibet Open Online continues, with two further online events scheduled for the fourth quarter.”

Qantas and the A380 having a few more problems:

These sort of things relatively standard for new airliners?

The presence of Mr Fry no doubt helped this story.

Yeah, the fact he left his wallet on the plane and was berating himself with lots of profanities probably helped Cheesy

He did say the Qantas staff were excellent.

Funny thing about this one - a couple of colleagues here were on a BMI flight out of Baku last week. Engine failure - about 30 mins in, big bang, plane shuddering, smoke out one of the two(!) engines, pilot tries to restart (3 big bangs, 3 times, about a minute apart), then decides to return - diving sharp turn, go back, passengers praying and weeping, apparently. Get back, get flight out next day.

Did this make any kind of news? PPRUNE even? No sirree.

My take, too. The Media NEED these sort of stories, & ramp up anything which might excite.

Latest news/speculation on it from PPrune is here.....

http://www.pprune.org/spectators-balcony-spotters-corner/468144-qantas-380-flight-engine-shutdown.html

Whilst Reuters have now issued this, though I've no idea how serious the Industry would view this....

http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/11/04/us-qantas-landing-cause-idUSTRE7A36BV20111104

I think part of the hoohah arises from the unscheduled landing, but there cannot be too many A380 capaple airports en route, & it seems that flying all that way on 3 engines, whilst perfectly do-able, has collateral effects, such as increased fuel use.

The reliability of modern the latest generation high-bypass aero engines is quite something, when you think about it.

Arguably, a better PPRuNe thead on it here....

http://www.pprune.org/rumours-news/468206-qantas-a380-engine-shut-down.html

Note this.....

Indefinite Tech delay to B767, BA104 in DXB, looked like an oil leak behind #1 possible pylon hydraulics

Yup, exactly as I thought......

I thought Lil-Dave was busting my balls when he FB messaged me this, 2 days before I head off to Vegas....

thanks! see you next week, bring a jumoer its chilly out here, dont wont you catching a chill

So I stuck it right back in his eye, & threatened to play him HU @ Omahaz. He soon stfu.

However, according to the weather report on my clever 'phone thingy, the temperature in Vegas right now is 5 degrees C. What? Say it ain't so? I've never been there in November, only June & July when it's 35c - 40c, & I expected maybe 20c, but 5c - that can't be right, can it?

Wish I'd known before I went out & purchased a bunch of summer gear to wear out there.

Went three years ago in November. Weather was ok, quite cold in the shade, which after 2pm ish, is hard to avoid.

Wrap up warm.

Don't you start with the condescending ageism, Mr BlobbyII.

To be fair to Dave, I had been a little hard on the lad. He had written to me asking why he could not access Sky Poker from Vegas, so I reminded him that the minimum age is 18. He seemed to get a bit uppity about that.

I'm mainly playing @ Venetian, & staying @ Mirage, so that's literally just across the road, yeah?
