I thought Mr Keys "auction" was interesting, but I'm still not sure the best way to approach it tactically. I asked one blonde - pro player - for advice, & he did me right, then another blonde "legend" wrote to me, & we sort of worked a few things out together.
I didn't want to comment on the auction thread, as I thought that it would be unfair to say anything within that text, that may influence peoples bids etc...
But it's clear that James has cleverly led people away from the 'am I getting value' stance, and created a competitive arena, where winning appears more important, than getting a good price.
Fair play to him (although it has been suggested that the slimmer Mr Johnson may deserve at least some of the credit).
I generally think players over-rate themselves, or at the very least take most or their edge in mark-up, leaving little, or no, value for investors.
As the auction strategy appears to be able to inflate prices, it would make me even less likely to get involved with investing.
I really hope that gets picked up, & debated. Most interesting, I thought, & as the day wore on, some peculiar dynamics occurred. Not all of which were visible, or apparent. But perfectly legit.
I applaud his efforts, & he'll make it work, the sheer respect for him guarantees that.
Whether I'll take part in any of these auctions "solo", I'm not sure, though I may "pair up" with someone who understands the process better......
Oddly, I'm starting to do more staking "off-forum" via PM etc. I always try & ensure I give a little gift when I do a stake bink, & that has caused a sort of karma reaction, as they now write to me & say "want another stake?". Which is either very kind of them, or maybe they know a soft touch when they see one.....
I've really loved the staking fun I've had this last 12 months, & I've been ourtageously lucky, & I've not wasted the cash either. I have a little financial model, & stay within it's budgets, & I find it hugely entertaining.
This weekend, I have a few bits & pieces invested in the MC @DTD, & a few pieces of well-good players in the 'Stars Million. So I'll have that lovely buzz of anticipation for the next few days.
Excellento.

I'm a bit of a blonde newb. Only really read the site in the last 18 months or so and lurk more than I post.
Although I have met some fantastic people thru this site. 'Cliques' are a part of ANY forum, but IMO this is one of the friendliest and most posters on here are fairly fluid with their posts. However it is natural that some people spent more time in certain parts of the forum than others and talk to certain people more. To not understand that is just weird and I find it amazing that someone can come and criticise about it....these groups form in EVERY walk of life and for it to be absent on here would be abnormal.

for the record, I don't think pleno was criticizing anybody at all, rather pointing out that Cos has the exceptional quality of inviting everyone into his, erm, 'clique'.

Seriously LOL at people worrying about there being cliques who post on each others threads. Who gives a fk?, thats everyday life, just like at work where some people will be interested in say football, and others wont be, doesn't mean they are in a clique just because they talk together. Just that they have similar interests, same with posting on a forum.
As long as it wasn't some ill intended piss taking of others, on particular threads, I really struggle to see what people are worrying about

I use to love these, the Railways had hundreds of them. Tiurning circle was smaller than a bike.

Quite possibly, but I was addressing Lee's analysis.
I would not even know where to begin discussing the fact that Cos "invites everyone" into his group of friends. What would that be implying, exactly?
I have nothing but admiration for how well Cos has "worked" his Diary, & said as much after he was "Advented". If the debate has moved on to discuss whether others here, myself included, are more or less inclined so to do, well I suggest we move on, because that takes us down a debating dead-end from which there is no escape, & would be subjective, & pointless.

Oh wow, it even shows the turning circle to which I referred. (Only watched the linked one so far, time probs this morning).
Tom will love that too (suddenly I almost feel guilty saying that!), I'm a little older than him (RAISE), but I'm sure he well remembers them too. They were pretty much the universal method of road freight transport, rigids apart, & were, I guess, the forerunner of the artic as we know it.
They were incredibly basic inside - totally bare. Brag alert, I drove one once......just one seat, one dial, (speedo), no heater, no radio (as if!), nothing. They were the workhorse of the roads, thouigh, & I remember them with great affection.
Thank you for that find - keep them coming please.
On the "keep them coming" topic, (addressed to all), I'm still very keen for any "Best of 2011" Photo galleries when they start to arise. Their annual arrival, just before the New Year, but after Xmas, is one of the few reasons that, personally, I look forward to Xmas for. I know, go figure.

Hi Ryan,
"weird & amazed"..... In my case, I would say that was a bit of an understatement, but let's move on now, I don't think we need to get hung up on it, & I really want to major on more positive things.
And on that basis, Ladies & Gentlemen, I give you scotty77, aka Ryan Spittles, late of Luton, now 6-max Runner-up @ The Vic, who will be the Guest Analyst on tonight's Show on Ch 865, & Sky Sports, alongside someone who was benevolently described yesterday as an
elderly gent
.
Good Luck Ryan. Imagine that, you punditing on Sky Sports. Quite something, eh? Don't forget though, sit on those hands, or I'll hold them again.
Break a leg & all that.

Well it seems some do!
OK, enough of this, let's press on.
What are your plans for Xmas? Holiday? Working? Punting? Escaping? I'm going for the last-named, & I go next Wednesday. Really looking forward to escapng for a week.

Tony, your first reply to the points that Lee raised was beautifully constructed, and worded.
Said everything I would have wanted to say on the subject, only in a much better way.
Interested that you made a NYR regarding your posts on the forum - because I think your style, and interactions with others, has changed a little this year.
Take your approach to Cos, Jason etc....
I think you have been far keener to build bridges, and to see the best in people.
I reflected on that comment afterwards, & I think I need to make the point that it suggests it was me who made all the effort. The tales of Cos & Jason in 2011 are quite different, but in Cos's case, the effort was as much by him as me, more so maybe, & I can't take the credit for that. We both made a conscious effortt though, & it's been very worthwhile, very satisfying, to sort it. In fact, quite a lot goes off between he & I privately, via PM, & it's all good.
Jason? I have yet to comment upon his Advent inclusion, but I will, & positively, as soon as I can. Different tale completely, but he does have one thing in common with Cos - they both come across very different in "real-life", & I've not had an issue with either in real-life. Jason, in fact, is an intriguing story, but that'll have to wait, for now. Suffice for now to say he is a decent & honest man in "real-life", not to say incredibly bright, & wise. Maybe not so much on the Internet, though. Yet. And please let's not have those words twisted.

Don't know why you're so keen to press on antonino kendallucci - the forum is in a very positive place atm (I'm obv talking in terms of posting and posters rather than commercial which I have no clue about) - a few people have mentioned cliques like they are a bad thing. On the contrary...
The reason I would say pleno gave me as the example of the person who fits in with everybody is purely down to three main things. I spend more time on the forum than most and get to know people better this way - as they do me through my high post count and diary. Perhaps more importantly is that I have spend significant portions of time living in the two areas where blondes are most active: nottingham and down south (where I got to know the lutonians etc).
Cliques are a good thing imo - there are cliques at school, in the work place, at weddings, at the gym and even in individual households. They are just bonds that people make through interaction and common interests/circumstances. No need to shy away from the topic or fear when it gets brought up.
The more often you just say why its so much more positive than negative on the forum (the less people will mention it and ask - which I guess is what you want). The more you say - 'let's move on' the more people will say 'see - there's that clique problem on blonde again when that's the wrong P. Its a positive, not a problem.
