 I have an anecdote about a kid that lived in our street who wanted to join his older brother at Hampton grammer school. He didn't quite do well enough in the entrance exam so he had to go to an interview (we lived miles away from there and his parents decided that it was his only shot at having a decent life).

 I don't retweet everything, just the things I think are funny or interesting, but most of my tweets are retweets, I'd guess six a day average.

 Anyway the kid is asked in the interview what newspaper his parents read.

 He is 10 years old (I think, maybe 11). At this age he doesn't know the significance of this. I think it's a brilliant and very devious question for them to ask, after all they can't ask: "Which way do your parents generally vote?" but they an effectively find out by asking this question. I think it gives them quite a lot of information.

 Note - I'm not saying I agree that they should pick people on the basis of their parents political views, but this question suggests they do.

 Anyway, he replies that his mother reads The Mail as she likes the femail section.

 "...and which newspaper does your father read?" they now ask.

 "The Sporting Life" replies our hero.

 "...I see...and does your father like to follow the horse racing?" they ask (a noble pursuit of Lords and Kings it has to be said, and a perfectly acceptable hobby for anyone looking to send their son to a posh school).

"No. He likes to bet on the dogs".

The Sporting Life was simply a great name for that kind of newspaper, can't understand how it went bust.

Colin McTaggart announced as Tournament Director for the 2012 Genting Poker Series

19th December 2011:  Genting Casinos have announced that Liverpool based Colin McTaggart is set to be the Official Tournament Director for the new Genting Poker Series that commences at Genting Club Star City in Birmingham on 1st February 2012.

Hailing from Belfast, but now a resident of Ormskirk, McTaggart AKA ‘The Skipper’ will be a familiar face to many of the UK’s leading players, having played a large degree of competitive poker himself including a victory in the GUKPT Walsall in 2010, when the 33 year old qualified from a freeroll.

With a deep understanding of the structure of the game, Colin has regularly fulfilled the role of Tournament Director at  Genting Club Queen Square, Liverpool and most recently has been running the card room at the same casino

Been a bit pre-occupied the last few days, having moved into my new place, (stress ftw), so just been popping on & off to see how my bits & pieces are doing @ DTD. Still got 3 of my original 4 pieces of action left, good luck all of them, & grand to see Tom grinding it out as only he can.

They say he's a super-nit, but don't you believe it. In a Super-Sat recently - recently-ish - @ Walsall, he called a shove from me (King-Nit himself) with A-5. Ridiculous.

I felt for G2L yesterday, he seemed to be cruising, then a nightmare session, & that was that. He was a tad miffed, I think, but I really think he's come on a bomb in the last 1 months, & I'd back him every chance I could.

Thank you very much for all the replies, comments, & photos, I'll try & work through them as soon as I can, but I have a Show tonight, so might not be today.

I also need to get up to speed on the Advent Thread - what a wonderfully eclectic range Tighty has come up with, not been a dud yet.

Oh, & to all the guys in tonight's biggie on 'Stars, good luck - especially the lads who I have a bit of interest in. You never know.......

Was a tad frustrating. I perhaps could have found a couple of folds (one deffo was a fold) but overall it wasn't to be.

Sometimes it happens like that it poker. I had a fairly tough starting table but was running it (imo) without too much trouble. Chipping up without showdown and making hands when I needed to.

Then get moved to a "softer" table and they tore me apart in 20 mins. I lost with AK, AQ and AJ. Sometimes them hands you've been waiting for get you into trouble.
