... Most such companies attract a lot of vitriol - Tesco is a similar example - & they'll put up with it all day, whilst they carry on making fortunes.
...

Really?

Who doesn't like Tesco?

Lots of people in small towns seem to hate TESCO. Wish their share price was las lively as Ryanair though, pretty flat over last two years overall

The only groups I know of who don't like them are Farmers (who largely have reasonable grounds not to), and snobs (being snobby).

Can't say I've ever noticed any kind of widespread hatred like you get for Ryanair though.

.....all day about Ryanair, & usually do, but if you'd invested your net worth in Ryanair Shares only 5 months ago, you'd have made a 50% profit already.

If you compare the share performance of Ryanair and Easyjet, there is almost no difference.

Quite possibly. Easyjet are quite a bit smaller than Ryanair, but their performance has improved dramatically since they accepted that Ryanair had the better business model, & so started imitating them.

Now come on, be honest - which of the 2 companies adverts would you rather see? The beaming smile of Michael O'Leary, or this? I rest my case. Which will cost £30 extra, obv.

It's been pretty flat for years, Simon, but it's like Vodafone, it's sheer size means that share price volatility is unlikely. It's also an indicator of sound financial prudence & management - no self--respecting CEO or Chairman wants to see surprises, or "spikes" in their KPI graphs. Nice & smooth is always best, & more likely to be sustainable.

"I'd rather buy a great company at a fair price than a fair company at a great price"

Warren Buffett coined that expression, I believe (no "folklore" caveat this time, you note), & he in turn learned it from a guy called Benjamin Graham, who was his business mentor.

Here's Ben Graham's Wiki page. Remarkable individual, try reading his "Mr Market" analogy.

On a personal level, not so much, it seems, especially after he had an affair with the girlfriend of his deceased son, which if nothing else, is an oddity. "So Ben, how did you come to know her?".

"Books & covers" were mentioned on here recently by, I think, tennis betting guru solaris, & I confess I never much liked Anthony Worrall Thompson, but I never knew why, except for that practised smirky look he has, which ranks as # 2 best Smirk in the all time Condescending Smirk-List, admittedly way behind Paul Daniels.

Today, I got lucky, as now I have good reason to dislike him - he's a tea-leaf.

http://news.sky.com/home/showbiz-news/article/16145166

Why would someone like that take up petty thievery? Surely he can't be THAT busto, can he? His businesses all failed, yeah, but he surely has a decent income-stream from his TV appearances. Or had.

I really am intolerant of petty thieving, perhaps illogically. Anyway, he's paying his bills now. Like.

Really? If we can get that validated by gatters (I think he'll reject it) that'd be an amazing stat.

Is most of it stolen in Chesire, or is it a nationwide Kraft?

In order not to get caught stealing cheese you have to do it Caerphilly.
