Great pics TK.

We spent 8 years based at Fort George outside Inverness from '91 to '99, during this time I played a lot of golf and we were fortunate to have about 10/11 first class golf courses within 40 mins drive. One of these being at Muir of Ord, a beautiful course and I believe a favourite of Mr Aliss.

On my bucket list is to spend 2 weeks up there playing all the courses we did back then

Geo

Take me with you, please.

I might be looking for a caddie now that I've realized it wasn't Geo who drove the tenth at The Belfry.

I hate to correct you Tony, but...

In the early days of horse racing all races were matches on Newmarket Heath ("I bet you my horse is faster than your's, see you Thursday, bring 5000 guineas").

Bookmakers were quite slow to get involved in the scene, but when they did they didn't have boards with chalk and prices written out. It was an open outcry system between all the gamblers on the heath.

In order to be clearly identified by the gamblers who wanted a bet you would have to be tall, so that you would stand out among the crowd.

To make you really tower over people you would wear platform boots.

If you were going out to lay some bets you would "put your betting boots on".

Lolz, nobody right yet. It's a stray apostrophe that makes it a completely different word. It's easy now...

Its and it's

To good Laxie, to good.

Sigh at not knowing difference between "too" and "to", tsk tsk.

I'm losing track of who is doing the levelling here, but, as it's not been flagged up....

Undoubtedly correct, Lord C (I know, I was there....), which was why I wrote "folklore has it".......

We have to employ a little artistic licence, too, when spinning yarns, though never shorten "artistic" to "art", as that's all bollox.

Whilst I have your attention, I note that i-Poker have decided to focus more attention on recreational players (lol, at last, the bigger Rooms are waking up to reality, how on EARTH did it take them so long to realise the basic facts of poker life!) by moving to a "weighted contribution rake system".

Thoughts on that, please? Note, by the way, that "recreational players", who comprise around 98% of the Online Poker Market (could be slightly more), don't really care that much about rake, as they don't play enough to earn much.

In this case, yes, a deliberate poke in the eye for one of the army of grammatical pedants who studiously & enthusiastically read this oasis of culturedness, as opposed to the culturednessless stuff next door.

Rolls Royce Motors have reported a 30% increase in y-o-y sales last year, & they are now selling more RR's than ever before.

The entry level Phantom costs about £250,000, but if you want a few bells & whistles, it comes to nearer £300,000.

Exactly. The best things in life often cost a little more......

I could write some lovely stories about Ryanair, & my hero Michael O'Leary, but I fancy the readership would not muchly agree, & it might just kick off. Shame, really, he's a quite remarkable man, & it is a really incredibly successful business, whether you & I like his business methods or not.

Anyway, it is 2012 now, & Michael, & Ryanair have adopted a new Client-friendly approach.

So topical....did you see my Facebook status? I just got stung for 40€ at Dublin, with a Mandarina Duck carry on designed bag. The girl pounced like a coiled cobra.  With my HRD head on, I knew she was incentivised to try and spot me, I also knew she had no training in how to empathetically deal with the situation.  Was weird, as a customer I was livid...with my corporate head on probably impressed.  I ranted on Facebook I'd never fly with them again, and Ray Malohney - an Irish poker player who works for Ryaniair replied "ive told Mr O Leary and he said he'll see you on your next flight"....probably true.

No, I never saw your FB Status, I mostly stay away from FB except for business needs!

However, you are right about the enboldened piece. Peeps can moan all day about Ryanair, & usually do, but if you'd invested your net worth in Ryanair Shares only 5 months ago, you'd have made a 50% profit already. How many poker players can claim that? The downside was minimal, negligible, too, as they can always be sold.

What's not to like?

It's a stunningly successful business, by any yardstick. Most such companies attract a lot of vitriol - Tesco is a similar example - & they'll put up with it all day, whilst they carry on making fortunes. It's a very odd facet of Great Britain, that we seem to so hate success stories.

PS - Will reply to your PM shortly, a bit of a backlog built up over the weekend, but thank you. An incred performance by you in Dublin, & what a cooler of an exit!

If you compare the share performance of Ryanair and Easyjet, there is almost no difference.

Lots of people in small towns seem to hate TESCO. Wish their share price was las lively as Ryanair though, pretty flat over last two years overall
