I checked, "folly" is fine.
These are follies.

Come for some culture as there seems to be a lot of pants stuff from Cos and Tom this morning.
You mentioned that once Lester Piggott was a hero until being jailed. Who are your modern day heros and heros from history?

Well made advert for Barters and their new app.
They deserve success, the bookshop is a delight. Well worth a visit if you like old books, especially so if you like old books and old railway stations,.........
and old books on trains.
Alnwick is one of England's secret treasures. I doubt that many from south of the Tees have found it.
The book shop looks a lovely spot. Never heard of the place until now, but Alnwick has just made my 'must visit' list.
It has a Castle, and one of those wonderfully English things - a
folly
.
Best place to live in Great Britain, too - it must be true, "Country Life" (a must -read for everyone) said as much.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alnwick
Alnwick Castle is fascinating and featured as Hogwarts for in Harry Potter films.
Alnwick Garden is worth a trip too - water features galore..
The ineffably english current Duchess of Northumberland led the creation of the Garden. It's very much an 'if you build it, they will come' story.
It has a great treehouse too.
btw - the station was apparently built on a grand scale due to it's use by Queen Victoria when she visited the Percys

You’ve started me off now.
That stretch of line, hard against the Coast for many miles, (you also get to see the river & town at Berwick-upon Tweed, & Durham, with its castle sitting majestically above the town), is one of my top 5 railway journeys in the UK.

Just one more……
This is approaching Alnwick. Those signals are – or were, not many still exist - called “semaphore”, & were mechanically operated from the nearest signal box by wires, rods, & levers. The semaphore arms with a little notch in the end were called “distant” signals, as they indicated that the NEXT “home” signal was on “stop”. All the other arms are “home” signals, meaning they were for this section of track.
Railway signalling the world over works in sections, the train in front has to clear that section before another train is allowed into the section. Simple, but foolproof. They use that system on the London Underground, too, which is quite something considering the train density, though of course the sections are very short, & it is all electronic these days.
The GWR invented something called AWS, too, which also became industry standard throughout the world. Shall I continue? Nah, I guessed not.

The journey from Darlington to Edinburgh is truly magnificent. We take the train for an annual trip to the Fringe. The holiday starts as we approach Durham and see the Cathedral, continues with a view up the the Tyne and then that marvellous stretch up along the Northumberland coastline -Alnmouth/ Lindisfarne/Berwick at times the train is almost on the beach.
Your other top 4 UK Train Journeys please Tikay.
Does it include Middlesbrough to Whitby along the Esk?

If it says it is, it must be, but it does not look like one to me.
The Range Rover Convertible, as exhibited in the Geneva Motor Show.
There is also, would you believe, a Bentley SUV? Yikes.
