I had a text from a young lady yesterday, who watched (a part) of last night's show, saying I had lost too much weight, & "are you using botox?".

Presumably there is a rub in there somewhere.

Don't know which young lady it was but I have to agree... Please, lets not be daft about it Pops.. you're looking thin and drawn atm..

Steady the ship for a week or so and put a carb or two on your plate!!

Last time you dropped to 11st you looked okayish.. this time you look like you are literally wasting away..

When was your last medical?

xx

Morning Irene.

I think we should put this weight loss thing in context.

Last year, I had ballooned to 16-5, & I dropped to 11-7, I think, a 5 stone loss in, I think, 4 months.

I have since floated back up to 14-1, my weight the Monday before last.

I am now 13-2, roughly. (Next official weigh-in is Monday).

I don't think - ever - 13-2 can be seen as "too thin"! Many people in Africa would be lucky to weigh half that!

The real problem is that, when not dieting, I eat really bad things, at bad times, & far too much of them. Can't help myself. As a result, the weight piles on.

The good thing is that dieting is something I find very very easy, & which is one of the most pleasurable, enjoyable, & satisfying things I ever do.

Food taster better, I feel better, the world looks better.

I've not had a single Rennie since the diet began, though my Nurafen intake remains a bit high, due mainly to stress overload, I think. (I have had a VERY difficult week under the radar).

My last medical? I can place that fairly accurately, I had just got a lovely new brand new BWM 5 Series, (nicest car I ever had), G87 UHV, so whaever date G reg cars are is the clue.

I don't really believe in medicals & stuff. I have not had a GP since I was in my teens, if I have a problem, I go see a private quack. I have not spoken to him for 6 or 7 years. I'm blessed to enjoy wonderful health, but realistic enough to know it may not last much longer.

How are you, & your Daughter? She at Uni now? What are you studying these days? How are Bradford City doing?

You were much missed at Brighton, truly. It seemed much quieter......

PS - Thank you for the concern.

Do people have medicals ?

Jackie Stewart talks about this in his autobiography. what rich people do apparently and if you read between the lines this includes royalty, is fly out to the mayo clinic once a year for 3 days. day 1 they do all manner of different scans, tests and examinations by different specialists. day 2 they operate and fix anything found in day 1. day 3 you have brekky and fly home.

both Jackie and his Son had cancer found and fixed, his son's would have been terminal if not caught so early.

Obv yes, but I mean periodically like.

No, most don't. But they should.

Preventative medicine is the most effective medicine there is.

I never used to have check-ups, but I do now.

Somehow, the older I get, the more I appreciate what fun living is. The world is a fabulous place. It's worth making a little effort to be a part of it for as long as possible.

We have our cars serviced. We renovate and decorate our homes. We are careful with our belongings, we even polish our shoes to make them look better and last longer. Then we neglect the only thing that actually has any value.

No idea really.

When I was working, running the various companies, they took "Key Medical Insurance" on me, the theory or logic being that my health was important as I was an asset to the company (lol), so I was supposed to have annual medicals, but I just skipped them, I could not be arsed with wasting a whole day every year.

Yes, I know that's daft, silly, & ungrateful. As luck would have it, it turned out OK.

I have a very individual way of looking at health, it will never change. I never had a single day off sick in 45 years of working, & I have not been sick, or ill, since I retired, either. To a degree, that is a state of mind. Only to a degree, of course many people, sadly, get "proper" ill, & I feel for them. But there are many who, slightly under the weather, call it "ill" & take time off.

I had stafff working for me who would present me with a 2 week sick note. A week later, I'd see them somewhere. "Not back at work?", I'd ask, "no, I feel great now, but the quack said I had to take 2 weeks off". Bleurgh.

Someone rung in recently next door, one of the staff. "I won't be in Sunday, I feel flu coming on". This was a Tuesday.

I really have no time for that sort of thing.

Off to the London Wetlands Centre this morning, armed with camera. You have been warned.

Quite an amazing place, considering it is right in London, bang opposite Fulham Football Ground, on the opposite bank of the Thames.

It is where we filmed that sort of docu/life story of me that next door did.  God knows why a Poker channel would do such a thing, but they did. Looking back, I wish I'd said & done it better, but I had no notice, they just sort of sprung it on me. Ah well, so be it.

I think you've confused staying well with pretending you're ill.

it is different to the way walsall presented it for sure. they announced it as 'no reg fee' which was, as I said on that thread at the time, misleading at best

Possibly thats the answer, I don't know. I really think Walsall did not "present it" nearly as well. It was not, never, "no Reg Fee", & I don't thik DTD dressed it up as such.

As you said at the time, it was misleading, or it seemed that way.

What is really interesting is to see how contrasting the fortunes of the two rooms have been in those 4 years. Walsall used to be THE place for Tourneys, now DTD are different class, totally different class.

Quite sad in some ways, but life moves on & all that.

Several things have dramatically changed the Live Poker landscape in the last 10 years.

I did remember that you were totally against deductions from poker prizepools Tony and your "thin end of the wedge" comment certainly stuck in my mind from that time, so I was wondering if your opinion has now changed.

For me the worry is that others will follow DTD's lead and exploit the situation in a manner that I would not expect DTD to do. I like all of us have a great deal of faith in DTD's integrity, but others might as you said use this as the thin end of the wedge and suddenly there is a further deduction for "staff gratuities" in effect subsidizing circuit dealers to be brought in for larger events, or the "bonus chips" supplement which is popular in LV and who knows what else.

I'm flattered - or worried - that people remember something I wrote 4 years ago!

I don't remember what I wrote yesterday.

Well you may recall that I was not particularly complimentary about the gala Nottingham card-room a few years back, and the reason that you probably remember that is because I banged on about it for some time every time the subject arose.

Similarly you banged on about prizepools being sacrosanct and the thin end of the wedge etc. on quite a number of occasions each time the subject came up,  which is why I remember it so clearly.

It is not that unusual for politicians to "cross the house", I believe Winston Churchill and several others did.
