What a few days, though best draw a veil over most of it.
Finished the Show @ Midnight, bed @ 1am, up at 5, sent a bunch of messy & urgent e-Mails, then went home to Derbyshire at early o'clock to sort some stuff, back in the office @ 1pm. 6 hours driving, but I don't mind it, I get to think, to clear my head, & work through my phone calls, & I spoke to a bunch of friends.
Went to get stuck in at the office, then my computer set up unsetupped itself.
Picked up a pile of mail at home, as per. Included....
Request for "name of driver". Evidently, I got camera-snapped driving home from the airport last Wednesday, on the way home from Nice. 11.36pm, 36 in a 30. Fair enough, but still a bit cross with myself, a momentary lapse of concentration. Bugger. I got a 6 month ban about 7 or 8 years ago, & I've been very steady since, a ban don't 'arf teach you a sharp lesson.
Summons for not paying my Council Tax. Checked my bank statement, it was paid on time. Bugger off.
Letter from Sandra Dancer (?), the "Pension Centre Manager @ Pension Service". In Edinburgh.
Dear Mr Kendall,
We're writing because you're due to the State Pension age soon.
Thanks for that, I'd clean forgotten.
Its half full at the end tho Tony, all that extra kerchiing coming your way.
Did you notice that Mick Channon had his first major Classic winner in yesterdays Irish 1000gns, it is 26 years since he retired from football ( how so) Quite an amazing achievement to excel in 2 sporting arenas
Talking about excelling at two sports.. I really don't think Rebecca Romero ever gets the credit she deserves.
World Champion and Olympic silver medalist for rowing.
World Champion and Olympic gold medalist for cycling.
I think that is the most phenomenal sporting achievement I can imagine.
Jeez, that's going some Keith.
I had not really been aware of that. I am now.

Crikey, I had never heard of her but that is some achievement.

Away from sportsmen & women, for some obscure reason, I was thinking this morning of the world's greatest sporting events, as spectacles, occasions.
Nobody could ever agree on it, but my first list (assuming, say, 10) was.....(not in order)
The Open. (British Open Golf Championship). That's the easy one. Argue all you like, that stays.
SuperBowl
Monaco F1 Grand Prix
Wimbledon Tennis. (Or French Open Tennis)
Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.
State of Origin.
Tour de France
Olympics
World Cup (Football)
A Lords Test v Australia, or the Ashes Test on Boxing Day down under.
That's not to say I would watch them all. I can't rev up even a tad of interest in the Olympics, or the Tour de France. Great occasions though.

It really is disgraceful how the royal mail can lose mail that is this important for several years and then they don't even bother to apologise when it eventually shows up.
Did they make you pay the difference in postage rates for rubs too?
They did.
2 pounds, 12 shillings and sixpence.

Oh dear God no. Golf spectators should be quiet, the players decorum should be gentleman-like. Can't be having with all that patriotic shouting & stuff, leave that for the football.
I doubt I've watched a Ryder Cup in 20 years.

Grand National? If it were held at a respectable venue, like Cheltenham, maybe, but Aintree, no ta.
Starte of Origin, bloody hell, them chaps are well hard!
What about the World Series Baseball?

The crowd on the Tour de France are terrible too.
For sheer drama and normally unflappable sportsmen playing outside their comfort level, you can't beat the Ryder Cup imo.

Talking about sporting achievement, I was watching the Paralympic show that Channel 4 have over the weekend and there is a woman who plays wheelchair tennis who hasn't been beaten for 9 years - 454 matches. She once won 250 consecutive sets and she's only dropped 5
games
in her last 7 Grand Slam finals (won 5 of them 6-0 6-0)
