How has nobody mentioned the Cheltenham Festival?  Better than National and Arc put together.

Also hockey is by far the least popular sport in the States and realistically is probably behind soccer now.  I have lived here on and off for a couple of years and have never had a passing discussion with someone about hockey.  Admittedly South Florida isn't a hockey hotbed but the Panthers play within 20 minutes drive of my house and it just doesn't even rate.  FIU football and hoops are probably more popular and they are the fourth most popular college teams down here.

It's Canada where hockey is truly revered and where 95% of all the NHL players used to come from pre-expansion.

Pretty suprising that one of my recent posts itt turned out to be wrong Smiley

Agree about the Cheltenham Festival, definitely makes my list, not really bothered about the National or the Arc.

The answer I was looking for was Darts, whether that is actually the correct answer, decide for yourself.

http://www.espn.co.uk/espn/sport/story/46914.html

As you were

Would definitely put every other achievement on that list ahead of Taylor and I actually quite like darts too. Absolutely deserves to be classified as a sport imo. How they can justify having Archery and Walking in the Olympics and no darts is beyond me.

From the list, top=1 therefore Rocket Ronnie's 147. Taylor 10th?

The list is more confusing than Mondy, and that's saying something

Seems very harsh on the guy who wrote the list, he was probably just having an off day.

Kinda strange how I never got into horse racing. My granddad was a massive fan of the horses - if there was a race on TV somewhere then that would be what was on the telly, no questions asked. I probably watched at least 10 races a week until the age of 9, but it never really stuck.

So psyched to be watching the Stanley Cup final from a vegas sportsbook and not have to be awake for 4am face-offs!

Sad but true about hockey being the most minor sport of the 4 major leagues in the US. Being behind handegg was bad enough but being behind football now too? Outrageous.

Not really, its total shite. Then they have the nerve to give the awards to the jockeys and not the horse at SPOTY  Cheesy

I don't know about about horse racing to know how involved a jockey is in the training of a horse but from a completely uninformed point of view I'd surmise that its far more likely that the trainer and to a lesser extent the jockey should be getting more credit than they seem to.

Just from the coverage of the National that I've seen it appears that the trainers are pretty revered in the industry but since most of the public only ever see a couple of races a year max, they just get all of the focus on the jockeys and the horses.

Yeah but the horses don't get the media coverage to speak up for themselves   Tongue

I am always a bit surprised when poker players say this about horseracing.  Enjoying betting on racing and playing poker are very similar in my view.  All about solving a puzzle from multiple pieces of information and once you fall in love with that the majesty of the racing itself becomes irresistible.....or to me at least.
